Topic: Chordie and Wikipedia

Chordie is getting close to 200.000 registered users, and it not even have an entry in Wikipedia.

Articles about Chordie tend to be rejected.

Here is a challenge to everyone: Free Chordie T-shirt and Chordie guitar picks to anyone that is able to get a Wikipedia article accepted.

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

Help please. I have maxed out my songbook but I can't seem to be able to delete songs so I can add new ones. The error message is that you may have re-arranged the index and the search cannot find the songs to delete them.
Ps. I really love the sight. At 57yrs its great to be able to look up songs old and new.
Many thanks for any help you are able to give.
Derek Day.

Per you got your wish! I know its not an article on chordie yet but before you can submit an article you have to be registered with wikipedia so I will need some additional information like when chordie started and where membership numbers and any members of note(with there consent of course) and then I can submit a article listing all the forums and resources and I would like a extra large black t shirt lol

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

Hi Derek and welcome to Chordie,

Being new to Chordie you might not realise that it is not really a good idea to post a message in a completely unrelated thread as it can all too easily get overlooked and your query does deserve a thread of its own and an answer.

I would suggest, sooner than trying to delete songs that you might need in the future from your existing song book, that you start a new one as you can have several songbooks.

Take care,

Roger

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

On this link there is still a possibility to start a page on chordie forums or chordie as a web site but I don't have enough information about the origins of chordie to make it "interesting enough" for the wikipedia delete squad to leave it alone but its still possible because deleted articles are stored and can be re-inserted if additional information warrants it.

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

I want the article to be about Chordie (but the forums could be mentioned, though it is probably hard to get past the delete squad).

Chordie is the largest search engine for finding guitar chords and lyrics on the Internet. It was started in October 2002 and has today 200.000 registered members.

--maybe something about what is unique with the site?

Chordie is based around the chopro file format, a file format that separates text and chords. The format is also used by programs like Chord (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chord_(software)). Separating chords and lyrics makes it possible to transpose songs automatically and create graphical chord grids for guitar, banjo, ukulele and mandolin.

Chordie has the policy of immediately removing any songs that any artist wants to remove. The sites faq (chordie.com/faq.php) states that no artist has ever requested that.

---
Anything along the lines of "it is a cool site", just makes them automatically delete it.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

pheww tall order! I will use the information you have provided and put together an article on chordie and mention the forums but stick to the facts and search for a way to project chordie as unique (I think I may have lost the t shirt) on my word processor and copy the link with references to chord thats already listed in wiki and hope I can slip by the "hit squad" smile

Hey Russ...I went in and made a few minor adjustments...Maybe it will help....Im not sure...but i think they will leave italone as long as hang on is at the end of it...so maybe we can buy some time before they delete it and get it laid out a little more

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

A T-shirt isnt supposed to come easy. This is hard work..:)

I think the really important thing about getting an article in Wikipedia is that it should not come out as "yet another web site"... And it should in no way appear as advertising/promoting anything.

I am however not sure how to do this. Maybe another strategy could be just to submit a so called "stub". One or two lines. And then later expand it..

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

Per I updated my objection to this action but its like swimming upstream several users have targeted chordie (for lack on anything better to do) and im running out of reasons for objecting and I feel any entry or artical about chordie is going to be attacked by the same individuals

Nice attempts Russell, your efforts are applauded. It might be time to redirect and go in with a new strategy.

Re: Chordie and Wikipedia

Russell,
See when I wished you luck earlier in this thread I really meant it because I knew hard it would be.
I tried and failed and I am sure quiet a few others have tried, I might be wrong but I tihnk James has tried too previously.

still , good luck with continuing to try. I would not have the patience and crack up and email wikki people and give them a mouthful.
