Re: Your Guitar

My very first guitar, i got it when i was five. lol. it's about 2 1'2 feet tall haha.
Then i was borrowing a eletric from the guy i take lessons with, and that was a fender i think...Ibanez maybe.
Now i just got my first acoustic which is a fender stagg, it has an awesome sound, i love it.
next year im hoping to move up to something a little better, when i learn more though.

Re: Your Guitar

Nope, but I was waiting for someone who knew a little more about PA's than me.

The amp, of course, makes an enormous difference.

No,  it just means that your question may take more time for someone to answer it.   I have no idea how many people here are acoustic, electric or both.  Though my best guesstimate is that the majority are acoustic.

Re: Your Guitar

The first guitar I had was a Spanish Classical given to me as a child from my Grandfather. I’m afraid to say now that I trashed what would be now regarded as a collectors item. I totally maltreated a fine guitar and never learnt anything from it. Well If I knew then what I know now etc.. etc…
I now currently own a Hohner Jumbo with a nice deep bass tone.
A mid priced Washburn electro acoustic a real workhorse and versatile I use it all the time.
A limited edition Silver Sister Mexican Strat.
And  a old  70’s Tele copy which  needs restoration. Will get around to it some day.

Re: Your Guitar

I just found out that Epi makes accoustic guitars. Is that true?

It is.  My sister has one she bought 30 or more years ago, and it sounds sweeeeet!  The tone and playability have seemed to improve with age.  When she needed money, I'd buy it from her for a while, then give it back to her when she was a little more flush.  It's a crazy way to lend a sister money, but we're a crazy family.  The point is, a time or two that guitar was mine and it is NICE.

So, yeah, Epiphone makes some real nice acoustics (or at least they used to be nice, I know nothing about whether they've changed things in the past 30 odd years).

Re: Your Guitar

I'm a newbie and a 55yr old grandmother who has decided to finally learn to do something with what she's got!
My first guitar, which I still have, is a K-Yari W1 - perfect condition, great tone, bought new in 1986. Apart from the K-Yari, my most played guitar is a '62 reissue Telecaster Custom. Sweet guitar.

Re: Your Guitar

My first was (and is) a peavey predator exp plus electric, the only thing that looks good in red!  My wife bought it for me for Christmas one year and it's the best present i ever got!

My son got the same model in black on the same day and quickly learned how to show me up.  2 years on, he saved his christmas money for an Ibanez SAS36FM at £300 but I still play and he can't be bothered so I got the better deal there lol.

I also got a tanglewood electro accoustic from my wife (again) thanks, honey - I love you!  I also bought myself an Ashton 12 string accoustic for when (it's been mentioned before) I want to sound truly hideous wink

I'm the son of rage and love

Re: Your Guitar

My first guitar was a japanese classical. It's a bit boomy and mellow - I have abused it mightily over the years and still have it.

My first steel string was also japanese, but is a bit of a mystery.

It is a Yoshi, which ( honest to goodness ) is built like a Martin and has a bray like a mule when you tear into it. It'll cut diamonds. It is also the strangest looking thing as it is flame maple top, back and sides.

I think it's all solid wood, because you can see the flame on the inside of the box as well as on the outside. The box is bound, and the neck is rosewood with what looks like rosewood binding, so it's a very "woody" looking beast.

Re: Your Guitar

Hi, washed by him.
The guitar I learned to play on was built by my grandpa, for mom, in 1963. He took all the measurements from a 50's archtop gibson. In 69 when I left home, somehow it left the family. About 10 years ago I managed to track it down. Now it is mine, still plays great!  The first one I purchased was a new 74 Citation, didn't have much punch, but played easy. Then in 93 I met some bluegrassers in So. Carolina while on vac. Today I'm playing a Martin D18V. As for playing into a PA, use a good mike, a shure beta 57a works fine for what I do. Set the bass, tremble an midrange all on -o-. This way it'll sound just like it does at home. For the vocals I use a shure beta 58a. I run them both into a DTAR Solstace and run one cord to the PA. Usually there is 5 of us in a half circle around this rig. We play Traditional and newer country, with Traditional and Gospel bluegrass mixed in at the local nursing home and some senior citizen centers in the area. We have a dobro, fiddle, banjo and doghouse bass with my guitar. All of us sing"try to". We probably don't sound as good as some, but the only ones having more fun than us are in the audience.
