Topic: BEST POP- ROCK-METAL etc. SINGER

This is again a very tricky one, but I love to hear the opinion of a lot of people. I could add classical singers, like Pavarotti. But this one is for all non classical singers. I would be pleased if one does count the "voice capacity", meaning voice range, intonation, variation, like from low to high, harmony is also included. MY LIST, maybe strange, but that's why I ask this and why I talked about POWER voices.

1/ Axl Rose: tremendous voice, can do a lot with his voice

2/ David Lee Roth (ex VAN HALEN).

3/ Paul Mc Cartney: just listen to yesterday and compare it with his harder songs, what a voice!!!

4/ (don't laugh) THE GIBB brothers, barry, robin, if you see how beautiful they could sing, more explicit, the brothers voices together, it still gives me goosebumps.

5/ Ian Gillan, Deep Purple: challenge: try to sing child in time.

6/ The righteous brothers, especially unchained melody, and if you don't agree, wikipedia does.

7/ Robert Plant (good ol' led zeppelin)

8/ Crosby, Stills, Nash: again that fenomenal harmony.

9/ Wilsons, beach boys of course

10/ Joe Cocker.

And I can still go on, but as I wrote, I tried to analyse there "vocal powers" and in my eyes very important, harmony, that's why the bee gees are on 4, they could sing from low to normal up to the falsetto voices, like staying alive. But this is only me speaking,so what do YOU think. I think it is worth to make your list, we've got guitarplayers and now vocalists.

Thanks for participating, if you have the opportunity, tell me your reasons why. There are a lot of great singers. Zucchero: his voice is a little bit like Joe Cocker's voice, AND WHO DOES NOT REMEMBER HIS SCREAM GOING TO THE BONES in Woodstock 69??

Mama Cass - her voice just cuts through the mix and puts chills in your spine.

Judith Durham - another great pop voice, pity about her using only keyboardists recently.

Dionne Warwick - the best Bacharach singer ever.

Elvis Presley - Don't let the icon status detract from the live power.

Otis Redding - He's not all 'Dock Of The Bay' see him work the faster numbers.

The Wilsons - generally you're hearing Carl and Mike Love on the BB records not Brian, although he can do all the parts too.

Eric Burdon - amazing vocals with the New Animals check out his version of 'River Deep Mountain High'.

Re: BEST POP- ROCK-METAL etc. SINGER

well, thanks already for your opinion, there will be singers in this kind of poll, I don't know at all. I like really to learn on this forum, and others. Like best singer(s) if you see my list, I should better move up Joe Cocker.

I wass thinking something about the program: IDOL 2007.

Amazing what some people can do with their voice. Tell me If I AM WRONG, I think that a classical formed singer, can do a lot more than others, because of there specific "breathing" techniques, but like it is for everyone, you need a gift. The only thing is that a lot of gifted people can't handle it and don't use their gift.

well you guys chose some very talented singers however,

if we look at the present day singers only one name comes to my mind, and that would be, CHRIS CORNELL, now with audio slave, formerly with soundgarden, and he just did the theme song for the new james bond flick. if you've never heard of him you must check him out.

ABSOLUTE POWER!

Re: BEST POP- ROCK-METAL etc. SINGER

A lot of very good singers there but, no Roger Daltrey?? Certainly up there amongst the best I reckon.

I like these types of threads, it fascinates me to see what other people rate compared to myself.

Variety. That's what makes music so bloody good.

A few singers I rate for varying reasons, they might not be technically 'the best' but they are in my book.

Joe Strummer.

Roger Daltrey.

Elvis.

Jim Morrison.....LA Woman era.

Steve Marriot.

Liam Gallagher...when he could be arsed!

Like I say, maybe not technically the most gifted singers, but every one of them was bloody damned good at what they done.

Oh and a special mention for Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers. He means every damned word he sings!

Re: BEST POP- ROCK-METAL etc. SINGER

Two that I could listen to all day would be Eddie Vetter and Bono. Bono singing, not talking politics that is.

Re: BEST POP- ROCK-METAL etc. SINGER

I am glad for all the answers, people (singers) I don't know, well I make it easy for myself, I look on the internet.
The question was like written pop-rock-metal. Why metal, I like the style and it can calm me down, or a ballad: same thing and my preference is, not the "sweet voiced ballad groups, but if you hear a song like "more than words" by EXTREME, and you discover the other songs, same thing with Guns&Roses: November Rain, Knocking on heavens door, listen to the voice, like axl or not, but you can't tell that his voice is bad. He can sing a lot of things. I just ask myself how they take care of their voice, especially with the lifestyle of some of them.
