Topic: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

I am beta testing Propellerhead Software's new recording software product, oddly enough called "Record."   It's a "private" beta, in that it's an invitational thing, and you have to have a special invitational code in order to download and use the software.   As part of the beta, I was issued two additional invitation keys, and I figure there is no place better than Chordie to find someone interested in testing it.

Anyway,

This is the product...

If anyone is interested in participating, please let me know via PM or email, and I'll forward along the invite codes.

Hey Jerome, I'm starting my holidays next week and I have a song I want to record. It would be great if I could try it out.
Thanks

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

Alright!

Russ and Kap got my two.  It looks as if you get two to give away with every registration, so there should be more, if those two decide to share.  smile

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

Anyone on Line6's email distribution list should get an invitation. Email me and I'll forward the email I just received. I just bought Mixcraft a few months back. I'm not interested in switching just yet.

I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused.

thanks russ...we may give it a go saturday

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

I had a problem with selecting the audio input from a list I think the recorder has to be on and you have to play a few notes to send a signal to the mic input on the sound card as you initially choose the audio source so I failed to set the audio signal and got PO'd and deleted the program after chatting with Jerome I decided to give it another shot and its 50% downloaded as I type there is a contact web address I will make use of as soon as I get ready to run the exc application again smile

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

I have the same problem Russ, so I carried on to check the system out without doing any recording. Man!!! this is one big program. Let me know how you make out with the audio signal issue. Maybe I missed a step.

I still have two to give away to the first two to Email me.

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

I sent an email to the contact people http://www.propellerheads.se/contact I'm waiting for a reply the folder is already downloaded and as soon as I get an answer it will probably apply to everyone who uses the mic input on the sound card let you know what I find out smile

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

Alrightalright...

I finally had a few minutes last night to play with this thing.  Couple of observations...

1. It absolutely helps to be familiar with Reason.  Reason's patching capabilities are unmatched, but you need to know how a sound board would be wired in a studio in order to understand it.  If you have a moment, hit the TAB key while looking at the effects rack.  It will change the view to the "back" of the rack so you can see the cables connecting everything.    Understanding Reason's autorouting will help immensely.

2.  Still very USB focused.  I could work it with my MIDI keyboard, but no luck with the internal mic.

3.  Access to all the goodness that is Reason's effects bay is going to make you really, really, happy once you figure out how to use it.  big_smile

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

if its usb focused and wont work with the internal mic how do I get my guitar to input? unless there's a usb cable that has 2 rca jacks to go into my BR-8 its like a pair of your favorite jeans you can never wear maybe the nice folks at propellerhead can provide some answers to my query or riddler can figure it out I'm no good at this complicated stuff regretfully, woe is me lol

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

There are a number of stereo to USB interfaces available that would plug into a USB interface.

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PODStuGX/

It would surprise me if you can't get it hooked up to the internal mic, though.   Reason is a sequencer, so it's heavily USB/MIDI oriented, so it's not surprising that recording analog inputs isn't quite as intuitive.  I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

I did purchase a interface from Radio Shack for $9.95 that has a mini stereo to usb that I can hook my Y chord from my digital recorder to just one thing you will have to change the preferences in your computer before and test it on the Audacity program to make sure theres a signal before running the setup application and keep the signal on so it knows, have you been able to get a audio signal to Record? smile

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

OK I have this figured out.

So the problem is simply one of audio drivers.  Record is set up to use ASIO drivers, which if you have a Windows box, is probably not installed.

The good news is that there is a really good free ASIO implementation you can install, and never have to worry about again.

http://www.asio4all.com/

Install that.

Once that's done, start up Record.

You'll get a new document.

Click on the Edit menu, then select "Preferences"

In the "Audio Card Driver" selection box, you should see "ASIO ASIO4ALL"

Select that, then close out that dialog.

You should see signal coming in on the transport monitors.

I'm at work right now, so I can't really sing into the thing, but I will when I get home.  smile

You need never provide any justification for going to the beer store.

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

I installed record on my vista laptop and it loaded and I played the demo that came with it...I'm going to put it on my desktop which has xp later....

Re: Propeller Head Beta Testing Opportunity

If for some reason you can't get the ASIO4ALL driver to install (works great on my Vista system) there are other ASIO drivers you can use.

http://www.brothersoft.com/usb-audio-as … 11581.html

This one I've not dealt with before.  You might also try looking up ASIO for your specific sound card, and see what you can find.
