Topic: performance improvements

Ive made some upgrades that I hope will lead to performance improvements.

Please report if you think pages loads faster/slower.

Also report if you experience images (grids, logos etc) not showing up.

Re: performance improvements

How do you post messages on the forum?

Re: performance improvements

Are you posting a message to the forum, asking how to post messages to the forum?

Re: performance improvements

I don't notice any speed increase in the page changes/refreshes. Pretty annoying when you forget where you're going or what you were looking for before the page can get loaded.

Re: performance improvements

Hi admin,

I see one change: I can't save files .. what was possible "formerly".

... but I don't know whether it's up to chordie or to my PC

Anyhow: let me take the opportunity to thank you for your enthusiasm improving this fantastic site again and again ...

Re: performance improvements

What do you mean by "can't save files"?

Re: performance improvements

Usually, when I finish editing a song in my songbook I save the result on my HD, using "save under" from the Internet Explorer (saving it as *.mht)

That doesn't work any more. Now I receive an error message similar to "website can't be saved at selected location" (translation from German WinXP)

Re: performance improvements

OK. Sounds like a local problem. If anyone else experiences something like this, please tell me.

Re: performance improvements

It does loed up faster, but, im not real crazy about when you go to an artists page (example Paul McCartney) and it shows all his songs, i dont like how the meneu is set up... but unless its a big deal to you, ill try to get use to it.

Re: performance improvements

Hi ovation93,

Having just read your post I am at a bit of a loss but maybe I missunderstood you. If you go to an artist and only get some of his/her songs listed, where are you going to find the rest? Perhaps you can explain in a little more detail what you would like to see so an old fogie like me can understand.

Thank you,

Roger

Re: performance improvements

Hey Roger,

what i ment was the index, the way it show the name of a song and it tells how many different one`s there are beside the name, but no need to change it. i`m startn to like it, so really forget i ever brought it up. so sorry for taking up your time.

Re: performance improvements

Please dump the smiley crap. How is the new {i guess} miniscule type an upgrade? and what's happened to the chord symbols. I've wasted an hour and too much paper to get lousy results. unreadable text, no chord symbols. What's happening? Are you being absorbed by Microsoft hence the marked degeneration of the site? Really disappointing.

Re: performance improvements

Miniscule type? No chord symbols?

Not on what I'm looking at. All looks fine and dandy from here. I like the new way songs are printed out - doesn't waste so much paper.

I can only guess than somehow your screen resolution has changed. As I say everything looks as normal from my PC.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: performance improvements

Re: performance improvements

you guys should do a comment list for each song because some songs might have one error and it'll be nice if people can post comments and suggestions about the songs. i think more people will love this website. Also, maybe later you should do an optional youtube video feature if people post a song and wanna play it and show how it goes. i think at that point this will be the best known chords website ever

Re: performance improvements

You have both these features already.

If you are logged in, you can add comments.

You can also add youTube videos, but you will have to be approved by me first. This was open to the public, but I got too many posts of commersial copyrighted music videos. Everybody that bothers asking will be added to the privileged users list for posting videos.

Re: performance improvements

The site is quite amateur looking in my opinion, and I don't like the way the forums come up now. They used to come up with the original message, with all the replies plainly listed underneath. Now you have to open the original message to see the replies. Your chordie logo is quite amateur, and could use some help. If theres one thing I know, it's graphic design. I Will attach a logo to this message which I have personally made, and would love it if you replaced your main logo at the top of every page with it.

Keep up the good work, it's a good site.

Re: performance improvements

I agree, alittle more graphics on th entire web site would make it more fun to brows through. (But we still love chorie).

Re: performance improvements

I must be seeing a different site from you guys. The forum still lists original message followed by replies(I think you can choose between the two using "tree view) and the logo at the top of the page doesn't look like that.

Re: performance improvements

you misunderstood alvee33 the logo in my post was one that I made, which I thought was better than the existing one. They aren't actually using it.

Re: performance improvements

Thanks for the feedback.

I might update the layout in the future, but it will most likely always have a minimalistic look.

A few reasons for this:

* Performance. This is a high traffic website, and speed is of high importance

* I like to view as much of the songs as possible on the screen. Lots of users are running low res screens (even web tv with 800x600px). That means few graphical elements like big logos..

* I like minimalistic, no-clutter interfaces...

Re: performance improvements

I'm running 800x600 and I have no problem running high graphic sites. I used to be an administrator at www.haze-reborn.com ...that had alot of graphics (we used PHPNuke templates) maybe you should update your server to phpnuke. If I upload song lyric files to one of my websites, is there any way you can link to the files? I couldn't care less about copyright issues. let me know

Re: performance improvements

If you host songs in chopro-format (or any other text based format) they can be included into the Chordie index. If it is just a couple of songs, host them and use the "add song"-feature. If you are adding an archive, send me a mail about it.

It will then be added on the next update (usually every 1-2 months)

Re: performance improvements

Ever since "upgrading" to Internet Explorer 7.0 I've been unable to simply copy chords and drag them into a Word document. I'm also unable to "copy and paste" the chords. All I get is a black box where the chord diagram should be. I haven't found anything on any chat forum about i.e. problems with png files. Any suggestions?
