Topic: New year- Old heartaches. Helena Donovan

I always feel real sad on the ringing out of the Old Year. This year having won the prize, i wasnt with my ususal crowd.
So i thought id be fine. But alas i had to sneak away.  Everything else about the night was fine. Prizes , hotel, and gifts galore. I didnt win a milliion though, or id be typing this from somewhere reaaaaaaaal warm.
Than You as always for reading.

New year- old Heartaches.

Snow filled my hooded coat
As New Year bells rang out
A myriad of snow flakes
To facet on my mouth

I found a sheltered corner
In my need to be alone
In the distant chirpy voices
“Happy new year everyone"

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld Lang syne!

  I scanned beyond the white
Through every single flake
Recalling loving faces
   In butterfly mosaics.

New Year  brings new days
I’ greet with great respect
But for now I’ll shed my tears
Journey on with old heartaches.

Beautiful as always, very heartfelt and makes one think.  I can imagine standing there myself thinking as you were.

Thank you so much for your positive comments.

It does me ould heart good lol

Jason, i do the odd piece but, when  you let one person in life dampen your spirit, it takes sometime to
believe in yourself again. Im doing great now in that department. I removed the negative. Lol.
Im gonna do something this year with all the writings i have.  Its probably why i love chordie. They tell it as they feel it.

Warm Hugs to all .

hi lena,

i didnt have time to worry about last year as i was too busy singing the conga, and giving auld lang syne a hammering, now that was a far more worrying prospect!.

a very poignant piece this, deep as ever, i like the inclusion of lang syne [whoever he is?;) ].
here's hoping 2010 gives you lots more inspiration for your beautiful poems and songs..

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Thanks Phil,

Ould lang Syne ! Meaning ------- Old long ago.

Something i never knew untill i used the verse in the piece. I read some other information that came with the piece.

Dolly, as ever, excellent stuff. If you can, cast aside the negatives of your life, not always easy, I know. And remember, the sun always shines up above the rain clouds.

Well, you have the uncanny knack of putting to paper what many of us feel from time to time, but ourselves are unable to translate to paper.  I like your style, Old Doll.  Very good.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: New year- Old heartaches. Helena Donovan

Old Doll,
This is a lovely and pensive piece.  Sentiments shared by many others, I’m sure.

Recalling old times on this day, the celebration is often sprinkled with melancholy
Pushing the bitter into the shadows, anticipating more good days will be

Thanks for sharing!
