Topic: Did you have tea with Mussolini ?

Violet Gibson was Irish, the daughter of a baron. She shot Mussolini in 1926. She was then locked up for the rest of her life in a mental institution in England.  i was inspired to write this piece after i read about her life...
Did you have tea with Mussolini?         Helena Donovan

Were you just a silly crackpot?
Or the perfect mystery
The daughter of a baron
Used to high society.

Did he silence all your claims?
When for Tripoli he left
  Sent you back to England
Declared you insane, inept.

Did you have tea with Mussolini?
Make love inside his bed?
Was your crime one of passion?
A searing rage inside your head

  Did you tell him!
Keep your Seven Hills of Rome,
You’re Piazza Navona
Your power is being a fascist
You’re the lunatic in Roma!

Violet,
Were you happy?
To spend your days sublime
Entertaining feathered friends
No pizza or red wine

Were,
The seeds inside your pockets
So carefully sewed, silken lined
To feed on your Dictator,
El Duce, The banquet of your mind ?.

Re: Did you have tea with Mussolini ?

Interesting.  I really appreciate your writings and enjoy the little known history for topics
unsung heros of Ireland. I wish she had better aim!

I thought ; If I had one idea,
and took it from beginning to end.
I would try another.

Re: Did you have tea with Mussolini ?

I understand Il Duce used to have a lady waiting should he get too angry in his meetings.

It calmed him down.

However, Violet is an angry colour, unsettling, irresponsible.

She hit his nose - did she really mean it ?
