Topic: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

<img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_cool.gif" border=0 alt="Cool"> I like to hear the opinion of the "chordians" about a concert they saw. Just saying the words best concert, you will have a pop-up almost immediatly.

You can make a list, or you don't. All extra's are welcome, in particular the "showaspect" ( I sometimes think that musicians with a super show like The Rolling Stones, U2 , use them to cover up there mistakes, just like illusionists like Copperfield do.

My best concert is, definitely, miles before my second.

1) 1976: BARCELONA: performance CARLOS SANTANA and Guests. The guest was PACO De LUCIA, never heard of him untill that evening. The concert, or performance started at 19.00h sharp and stopped at 01.00h in the night. It started with a SUPER, NEVER SEEN Flamenco performance by Paco, all the spanish people in the "bull-fight" arena went crazy, I am talking about at least 100.000 people. 1 Hour later: viva carlos santana

played all his hits and more, in 1976!!!. Around 23.30

concert stop. People were even leaving, BUT that was the most amazing part: it started in full darkness, they just put the stage lights on the player, a special, more "poppy" flamenco: Paco was there again. Lights out, a second guy played along: yes CARLOS, and this game lasted until there were 10 guitar players, all playing the same song, but all in different ways, capo on the 3th fret, on the 5th fret, another rythm, another solo in that way, another in a different way. This my fellow chordians, is a day I will never ever forget.

2) Being backstage doctor, I saw a lot of super performances, on a festival, the biggest in Europe. I even made very good friends, like chris rhea, dave grohl and a lot other musician. But what I will also NEVER forget, that I was invited by the singer of the CURE, on stage. It was 22.30, so it was dark, you could see still at least a huge crowd, with their lighters. Same thing happened with Dave Grohl and Neil Young. Why: because you, not belonging on stage, were able to see the audience, around 80.000 people, and you sop "thinking" that you are NOT a member, altough you feeled like one. That is the best drug I ever had, also a once in a lifetime experience.

That's easy, KISS 1977. Not necessarily the best sounding show, but deffinatly the best show!

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

I have to agree with jcellini.  Different year but same result, Kiss 1979.  Which I believe was the last tour for the 4 original members, until the million reunion and farewell tours of the 90's that is.

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

Lynyrd Skynyrd:  4 months before they went down In Angel staduim, Anaheim California, USA. Just before the Street Survivors album was released. they went down in Oct. of 1977 I believe.

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

TOOL in virginia beach 2001 in october. It was a real cool right after 9/11. not to mention a killer show.

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

The best concert I saw was seeing Buddy Holly & The Crickets in Bristol, England in 1958 a few months before he was killed. They were awesome, remember we hadn't seen anything like him before, it was all very new and exiting!
The other concerts that are burned in my memory are
Neil Young, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent.

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

I was lucky enough to see the Who on the "Who Put the Boot in" UK tour in 1975 (I think) with Keith Moon on drums one of the first concerts I ever went to (I was in my early teens). I'll never forget it, the most amazing stage show I've ever seen. Still remember them doing "Won't Get Fooled Again" ...awesome.
Also saw Queen the year earlier (74) which was my first ever concert, that still stands out.
Other faves are Elvis Costello (in '78), New Order at the Festival Hall in London (around '84) that was brilliant-it was the anniversary of Ian Curtis death and they did four Joy Division songs as an encore). David Bowie Earls Court London '75-has to be one of the best too...aah! memories...

Too hard to answer, really.  Tom Petty at the Filmore was pretty good too.  So was Eric Clapton with Muddy Waters, and the Police, and ...

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

Woodstock 94' Saw 33 bands in three days. Some bands were Crosby,Stills and Nash ,The Band,Ten Years After,Primus, Greenday, Nine Inch Nails, Nevile Brothers,Joe Cocker, Bob Dylan, Areosmith, Peter Gaberial,The Allman Brothers,Collective Soul, Metalicia,Henry Rollins,Cyprus Hill,
Mellisa Ethridge,Cheryl Crow,The Spin Doctors, and some lesser Known bands. Its was "Three Days Of Peace And Music"  Like in 1969. Again in 1999 they put on another show
and the music was changed to newer artist and the crowd got rowdy and burned connession stands and almost had a riot. Of course in 94' it rained and was very muddy just like 1969. It was a blast and I would do it again no problem.I must say standing on the side of a hill watching Crosby,Stills and Nash was a big thrill, the atomisphere was awesome. Also seeing "The Band" was a hi-lite for me.Anyway enough rambling.

Have a great day...Badeye.

P S> Has anyone else on Chordie attend that concert?

Big sound in a little venue, can't beat it.  Stereophonics at Shepherds Bush Empire, a small theatre venue filled to the brim by the stadium sound of the welsh wizards of the hook, the anthem and the voice!  Main concert was fantastic but the encore made my hair stand on end - Kelly Jones with an acoustic guitar.  I still grin when I think of it.

Also enjoyed U2 at Brixton Academy 1984, Beautiful South last ever gig 2007, Van Morrison/Bob Dylan 2005, Green Day Milton Keynes Bowl 2005...

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

I used to think "THe Who" at the Olympia Halle in Munich, 1975, with Keith Moon still on drums, but then I saw Pearl Jam on June 1st, 2006 at the Meadowlands, what a show, From Eddie's warm up with the acoustic "Hide your Love away" to the walk out to the car after, just a great performance.

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, 1997 at Friedrichstadtpalast, Berlin. And of course Maureen Tucker (Velvet Underground) 1993 at Madhouse, Berlin. Unforgettable nights.

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

Jackson Browne in a little dinky highschool size arena back in the early 80s in Heidelberg, West Germany. I was never sure why he played there because he was pretty big at the time. I think he had some history there. It was a very tremendous show. The Loadout performed live was something that night.

Filmore East, late 60's, Procol Harum.   holds the record for longest and loudest standing ovation at the Filmore....  Paul Winter Consort was also on the bill that night...

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

Hey there old doll, although there are several free shows I had tickets to see Rikki Lee Jones wich was one of the have to pay shows. I was kinda familiar with some of here earlier material. Truth is I was not that impressed with her new stuff. Kinda off the wall. I did however see some good bands before and after her show. I will be returning this Sunday as I have tickets to see Buddy Guy and George Therogood which I anticipate to be much better

what a long strange trip it's been

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

Seven or eight years ago I went to see Chris De Burgh play at an open air concert just outside Nottingham at Belvoir (pronounced Beaver) Castle and I have two very memorable memories of the event.

Chris was playing with a full entourage of musicans and backing singers but when it came to the break everyone disappeared except him. He entertained us alone for the whole break playing and singing requests, which was magic.

The other was the face of the security guard who had threatened to eject us from the concert for dancing, we were right at the front of the stage. Chris looked at us and said that if we wanted to dance then it was OK to do so. The security guard's face was a picture, but if looks could kill...........

A great evening with a fantastic firework display to finish.

Hi there Old Doll yes George Therogood was a great show but actually the opening act Buddy Guy is what impressioned me the most. Definitely one of the best shows I have ever seen

Re: THE concert that is burned forever in your mind. Your best concert ever seen.

out of all the bands I love the best band I have ever seen is a fantstic band but not my favourite, but should be close up at the top with pink floyd, the jam, the who, slf, chili peppers, clash, acdc,
my award to the best band live is

LIVING COLOUR

these guys were the tightest band I have ever witnessed. The gig was on 28th March 1993, I know the date well because it is the day I asked my girlfriend ( now my wife) what she wanted for her birthday.......a leather biker's jacket or an engagement ring. she chose the ring the silly girl, lol.

Althoug they are the best band I have witnessed, it was not perhaps the bet gig as I cannot remember the support band. I remember aguy pissing me off and I think the band should have stayed on for 3 hours.lol

best gig I have been at for a single band and attmosphere still has to go to stiff little fingers on their 25 th anniversary in 2002 at barrowlands. It was like a massive party for 1700 people wit ha great band playing. Even if you didnt like the band, everyone walked out wit ha smile. not one disapointed person I saw.
