Topic: A love hate relationship with a Guitar

back when I first started playing (before my 20 +year hiatus)
I idolised Angus Young and Toni Iomi and later Jerry Garcia.
the one thing in common ?
the Gibson SG.
I hated the guitar..later I loved to hate it.these days I have played with a few at the music store and I am starting to love them.
think I will get the Epiphone Les Paul re issue ( as SG`s where called in the early days)
the one with 3 humbuckers.
the Strat will allways be my main guitar but strange how things go.
Peace Out
Torquil

Re: A love hate relationship with a Guitar

Thought this thread would get some interesting Comments but I guess not.
Looked into a gibson SG Angus Young with tremelo and a Gibson Custom with tremelo and 3 humbuckers.
the Angus is about half the price

Re: A love hate relationship with a Guitar

Are the SG guitars as top heavy or unbalanced as the bass SG's? My brother has a 70's SG bass that I'm afraid to let go of because I'm afraid the head is going to crash to the ground.

Re: A love hate relationship with a Guitar

I never thought about that.
It makes sense as the body is small and light.
I have never tried a Bass but I will now.
the thing about music stores is I never try with a strap just in the sitting position.

Re: A love hate relationship with a Guitar

I watched an interesting documentary last night called "It Might Get Loud."   It is Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge on a sound stage, talking about guitars, and jamming a bit.

Jack White makes a point of playing the crappiest guitars he can get hold of.   His regular axe for a long time was a plastic bodied J.C. Pennies thing.   He stated that he keeps the ones where the neck is a little twisted, or the body just aint right, because it forces him to wrestle the guitar into submission, and learn it's finer detail.  He said that "The great enemy of art is ease of use."   And while I think his methods might be a bit odd, I agree with his motivations.

It was a really interesting documentary.  Well worth the price of the DVD.

Someday we'll win this thing...

The LP Reissue with a good set of P90s will get you the sounds of Angus, Iommi and Garcia. On top of that it looks better and is balanced alot better.

Re: A love hate relationship with a Guitar

I Coulkdnt find the LP re issue with P90`s.
But changing pick ups sounds likie something I would like do.

I have got a line on a set of fender texas special strat pickups.
The price is good so I am thinking of getting them for my Cort Strat copy.

Could allways put a Maestro Trem on the Sg as well

Re: A love hate relationship with a Guitar

Was also trying out a Firebird and an explorer.
I have allways liked the firebird but think the explorer is ugly.
comfortable guitar to play sitting down though
