Re: who is considered the best drummer?

The best drummers ever were the crazy guys who marched into the woods during the American Revolution with snare drums hanging over their knees.  These guys were usually the first to die (duuh...let's try to sneak up on the British while we're banging on these drums!), but not until after they had signaled Patriot soldiers with their encoded rhythmic patterns.

And you think drummers take all the crap TODAY????

Me with my first ukulele, a Junior Beatles model, in 1966.  After Mom threw it down the stairs in a fit of rage, I became a drummer for life.  At age 43, I bought my second uke...

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

And then there is the Concord Blue Devil's Drum Line.

These guys are, quite literally, the best in the world at what they do.

The worlds' best best drummer was that group of 50 bazillion people... hmmmm... interesting indeed......

In this posters' opinion jerome.oneil needs to begin a new topic.

There is a slight difference in "drummer" and "drumming group".

But I'm sure jerome.oneil already is aware of this..........

Give everything but up.

Sorry.  I guess I'm one of them.  Earlier, I posted "Ringo and Liberty DeVitto" as my personal favorites.  My post about the Revolutionary War drummers was just an attempt at injecting some history and humor into a conversation that could go on forever without reaching a conclusion.

Their name is "The Concord Bluedevils Drum Line."  They have consistently been the best in the world at what they do since the early 70's.   The kid that stands in the center of that snare line is one of the best drummers in the world, regardless of what his name is.

You really aught to take your aggro act elsewhere, Toney.  It grows tiresome.

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

Good grief, all of this over a simple drumming question. It's Jon Hiseman, ok, enuff' already. Jon rules.

Keep on Rocking and remember Animals Feel Pain Too.

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

Be nice. And take it outside, guys.

Let this be an end to it. Don't make me come back there...

Any more hostilities and this gets locked.

Now.... back to the topic....anyone?

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

John ''Mitch'' Mitchell, the one and only Jimi the Man's drummer.

Keep on Rocking and remember Animals Feel Pain Too.

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

Back in my youth I remember thinking Cozy Powell was THE MAN. Or maybe he just had a bigger kit than the rest. lol Back then rock bands really started to go with HUGE drum kits.

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

Back in the old prog rock days I always thought Carl Palmer was pretty electrifying drummer. His drumming always seemed to drive ELP trio along superbly...
Not being a expert in the drumming department or any other for that matter  smile just thought I give him a mention.

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

For me the best drummer will always be Dave Payne. OK I know no one has heard of him but back in the 60's I was rhythm guitarist for what would now be considered a Shadows tribute band. Not only was Dave the best drummer in the district he would do at least 2, 15 to 20 minute drum solo's during a gig. This gave me the chance to get onto the dance floor, find a partner and arrange to take the young lady home smile. Oh happy days!!

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

I used to enjoy the drum solos too the rest of the band would go to the bar and have a few shots and a beer and get a chance to hit on the ladies lol

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

Ginger Baker, totally awesome, he came out of other bands to work with Eric Claptons, band Cream.
Ginger,Eric and the bassist, whose name escapes me at the mo', were considered "the cream of the crop".... the 'Guns'.
Guys n' Gals out there it's ok to disagree with me, "she'll be right".

Re: who is considered the best drummer?

kiaora, to you all, Ginger Baker did it for me,when 'the Baker' drummed (solo) he ruled the rockin' world,
he was also great at drummin to jazz and any other rhythmic genres, didn't matter to him He jus' Ruled.
