Topic: New Guitar

Hello ,

My wife just planned a trip to Bozeman to attend a quilt show and I went along and hung out at Music Villa in Bozeman, while she was at the show . They had just traded in a J-45 and I really liked it. I also played a new J-45 classic and a J-45 Legend. I also played a Songwriter and a Hummingbird. I liked the used one best , It is a 2005 J-45 Historic Collection. Don't really know what that means, the guy selling didn't know alot about it either but thought it was constructed more like the vintage models . It sounds really nice and has a really nice voice. To me the notes sound like bells ringing and it has a really nice bass. It is a mahogany back and sides but to me it doesn't sound like it. It really works for me and my style. I just put some new bridge pins in and strings and it is very nice. I feel very fortunate to own such a nice guitar.

Congrats Wayne! Happy NGD! - She is a beauty, I am looking forward to hear some tunes. The color of that burst is awesome!

Re: New Guitar

Exactly what I want, Wayne.  I'm happy for you.  It'll be awhile til I get one, but I will some day.  It's really worth it?

Re: New Guitar

Thanks,

I wasn't ready to buy a guitar yet and was just starting to look around, but the price was right and it sounded right. I did give Lizzie a call and she said

"Oh do what you want, if you want it, I'll come down to the store and pay for it."

I was hoping it was an Adi top but it is Sitka, the tuners have been changed to  Gibson Deluxe's , the originals were in the case, but they don't look as cool as these. It has a lot of light pick scratches on the top and some belt buckle buffing and scratches on the back , but they don't seem to bother the sound any.

Happy NGD Wayne!

I agree with topdown, awesome tobacco burst. So what does historic collection really mean? 2005 isn't very historic. Gibsons are all built on by one so I don't think much has changed since the old days. HMMM, very interesting, maybe just a sales ploy?

Keep Rockin!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Guitar

hay wlbaye,that is sweet!,.

my papy said son your going too drive me too drinking if you dont stop driving that   Hot  Rod  Lincoln!! Cmdr cody and his lost planet airman

Re: New Guitar

nice, looks new

Re: New Guitar

I agree, I don't think the Historic means anything , they have J-45 standards , Legend series and True Vintage and have signature models of J-45's  . I wish this one was just a plain ole J-45 but it was the one that was talkin to me so I aint arguing with it.

Re: New Guitar

Very nice guitar Wayne!! The historic editions offered slightly more vintage looking appointments... The largest change ,I believe, was in the tuners. The standard came with grover tuners and the historic was upgraded to the vintage style Gotohs.. As far as I know the actual construction materials and method was the same.    Congrats again on a beautiful guitar smile Looking forward to the first recording!

walbay... can I be borrowing your new guitar?? Just asken'

Re: New Guitar

Wow, happy NGD Wayne!  Looks beautiful for sure!  My epi with the laminate top mimics that look, I love the color ... but just look at the grain in the wood there.  I'll bet those bass notes just boom right out wonderfully!  CONGRATS!  The more I hear about Lizzy, the more I like her and can see what a great lady she is to you!  BTW... did she get anything good at the quilt show?

Sweet looking guitar.  It's tough to beat a Gibson.  I'll bet your fingers are sore from giving her a workout.

Re: New Guitar

It sounds very nice and I really like short scale guitars. I think it sounds alot like a D-18 Martin, but it has a voice that really rings
it sounds great with a pick, and I especially like it with no pick or thumbpick and the notes aren't muddy like they can be on some guitars. It has a really nice action and a neck that is so nice. I am pleasantly surprised at how nice the bass is. I wasn't expecting a Mahogany guitar to be so well rounded. It is a quality piece for sure. I feel fortunate to have found the used one at about 60%  of what the new ones were.

Zurf, this guitar plays like butter and it is so good, it won't even make your fingers sore smile

Pete, I'm not trying to torture you, just trying to give a honest review of a nice guitar. I hope yours comes along soon.

MKM, I gave Lizzie a ride to the quilt show, I thought that was a fair trade smile

That is a beautiful guitar...the J-45 is known as a real workhorse and has supported many artists throughout the years...Springsteen still uses his for writing....
