Ok, thanks to the wonderful work of moderator MKM, I am resurrected on Chordie once again as Bass Viking.  She was able to get me restored and get all my info back, so goodbye to Riverjenks and hello again Bass Viking.  Good people doing good things for each other and with music is one of the reasons why this site is so special.  Thanks Amy.  I will try to share something soon with the group as it has been awhile.

Good to see ya posting again Jimbo. How are things on Big Darby Cteek?

DE

Things on Darby Creek are just fine Ken!  Spent five weeks in Florida, came home too early, should have hung around another couple weeks and came to Chordiestock event.  One of these years I will.  Just enjoying life!  Hope all is well with you.

Congrats Ken!  I would bet monies the fellow might end up with a fishing pole in his hand before a guitar!

MKM; sorry to take so long to make any definitive decision but have been dealing with my mothers health issues as she has been undergoing chemo and radiation five days per week.  Unfortunately, as much as I would love to make the trip, it seems life is getting in the way.  I will be forced to be satisfied with recounts from all of you and video and/or audio of the good times you all will have.   Thanks for the invite; maybe some other time!  Bass Viking, aka Big Jim

Orient, Ohio
Settled in here on a dead end road on the lovely banks of Darby Creek

I recently have been listening to older music and came upon this.  A friend of mine started making little pictorial videos and I decided to try this by recording and putting the music to the pictures as a video.  Just me having a little fun in my own little amateur corner of the world!  I know this was also covered by Boxcar Willie, Hank Snow and Merle Haggard. Hope you enjoy!

I had a lot of back problems years ago, but a chiropractor friend of mine showed me how to strengthen my abs by laying in bed on my back and drawing my abs in and holding them for a count of five to ten seconds; and then releasing them for a few seconds and then doing it over again.  Repeating this over and over has strengthened my abs and therefore pulled those muscles tight from the back.  I do these every night when I go to bed and then again before I get out of bed in the morning.  It really is an easy exercise to do!  I also was told about the need to strengthen my hamstrings as they run all the way up the back of your leg and by stretching them and strengthening them they provide stability for your lower back; which if not strong enough is not supportive of your upper spine.  It is all connected; just a matter of getting the right things aligned and stronger to support. And, when injured, I always used to use a heating pad, but also found out that most pain is inflammation and ice is much better to reduce inflammation.  Good Luck; hope it gets better!

Sorry DE, I originally planned on making it, but something came up and I couldn't.  I sure wish I could have heard you and the misses together!  I am sure we will hook up in the future.  I have surgery planned for early next month so it will probably be awhile before I will be around!

Just a group of us with a lot of icy cold beverages some guitars, a banjo, a bass and a dobro!  A good time was had by all until the wee hours of the morning.  You might be able to tell that the icy cold beverages had already started to take effect!  Just sharing; hope you enjoy!   We certainly were!

I responded in August, but I have not heard anything!

I was thinking about how much I missed warmer weather and this song came to mind!  I first heard Johnny Cash do this song!  The hat was just for my buddy Pete Benson who has sported a hat recently; and even though I can't do that hat or songs as well as Pete, I gave it a try.  Hope you enjoy it!

Just got home from a week of playing golf in South Carolina and while there I heard someone do this song at a local karoake, so I decided to give it a try.  Hope you like it!

You will be missed more than you can know!  We all have missed having you sing something for us, so thanks for the little present before you left.  I liked it, as I have everything I have heard you do.  Travel Safe!

I am heading out to South Carolina tomorrow to play golf in warmer weather for a week!  Not taking the guitar, so went to play a little before I left.  With this snowy, cold winter I have had a little cabin fever; feeling like the four walls are closing in on me; so I did an old Jim Reeves tune "Four Walls".   Hope you like it!  See you all soon!

Great Job DE!  I has actually considered coming down until a few days before I got notice of a reunion for the Ashville Open Mic so I decided to go play instead of just coming and enjoying you and others.  I know you did your normally great job and the interaction with the young fellow is legendary!

I liked it!  I also thought you were going to do a version of Dolly Parton's song with her birthday being this past week, but I enjoyed it!

My friend Dave "Mac" McLaughlin is going to have a very dangerous surgery on Monday. I first heard Dave do this song and immediately fell in love with his version of it; both on YouTube and when he does it live for me with the Freedom Highway Band. His support, and that of friends like Pat Neal and Burl Bowling have made this a wonderful hobby that I continue to enjoy more than these words can ever express. You may not like what I do, but then again, I do it for me and only offer to share it with you.
This recording however; is for Dave, wishing you "Get Well Soon" so we can play some music together. My apologies for it not being up to your standard, but it was done from the heart as Thanks for your support and comments of my hobby. Now, Go Get Well!

Uploaded a YouTube video to go along with the original audio file recording.

I know, I know, a song every couple of days is probably getting old, but it is -8 degrees outside and there isn't much else to do except play the guitar this last few days; and when I do, I share.   This is a cover of a song written by Vern Gosdin and Mark Wright as performed by Vern, who many called "the Voice".  I am not or do I ever claim to be a voice!  But I do like the song!  Again, me being me, hope you enjoy!

Heard that Garth Brooks was going to start touring again and I always liked this song, so I recorded to share.  Hope you like it!  As always, me just being me enjoying my moments playing music.

My high school team's mascot were the Vikings; I have always really enjoyed bass fishing.  A friend of mine first called me the bass viking after he and I competed in a local fishing tourney as kind of a jab since we were competitor's at different schools when younger.  When I commented about this to another friend, he very politely told me "no, it was not bass  viking he was calling you; but rather he took one look at my 6' 2"  350 lb frame and said I was a "big ass viking" and just shortened it to Bass Viking.  Call me whatever as long as you call me when you are having a jam session and I can come and listen to all you fine folks having fun with our music.
