the chessboard video was fun to shoot thanks Jeff for the kind words
Wow Russ - That was great. I have to admit that my favorite part was you on the chess board. I wish I had your skill on the instruments and mixing...and the video mix as well.

Re: QUXOTE (11 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Thank toots the instruments I own and used were a Hohner electric acoustic,a Silvertone bass a small Yamaha keyboard an Alesis drum machine and my knock off Chinese SR-1 Strat the only effects were the on board Boss BR-8 effects, both acoustic tracks were recorded into a Shure SM 58 the bass, keys, drums and electric guitar were recorded direct into the BR-8 the acoustic has Silk n Steel strings (love the sound of them) the track order:
1. acoustic (panned left)
2. acoustic (panned right)
3. bass (panned almost center)
4. drums (panned left center)
5. Keyboards (panned full left)
6. Keyboards (panned full right)
7. lead guitar (panned a tad left of center)
8. lead guitar (panned a tad right of center)
I added high eq's on the bass so it wouldn't sound muddy reverb on the guitars keys and drums and overdrive and delay on the lead guitars I had to record the keyboards um teen times because the keys are small and I kept missing the right ones
all the rest I did one take thanks for watching and good luck with your project ![]()

Re: QUXOTE (11 replies, posted in Songwriting)
thanks dino we all shine in our own way with Gods gifts this was a bit of work to construct only because I dont know my way around this new software and for anyone wishing to try there hand with this video process these are the stages
first I recorded the two acoustic guitar tracks then the bass after that I added a drum track and a keyboard which I recorded stereo on two separate tracks the final tracks I laid down two lead guitar tracks and mixed everything and tweaked the EQs for each track and this finished recording was uploaded to my other computer which is running the Audacity beta 3.2 this was exported as a mp3 into a jump drive and transferred to my vista computer.OK so the music was finished now came the video I spent a few days prior to today gathering short clips from old VHS and DVD movies these were shot with a Kodak 8.2 megapixel from my flat screen TV and edited in the camera before uploading all of these clips had to be converted from MOV to WMV and run through windows movie maker to make each a movie I deleted the originals to save space on my hard drive I purchased a trakAXpc video collaging program ($24.95) online and loaded the music track first then each clip had to be inserted at intervals on the timeline so everything flowed along smooth I am still learning to use this new software and produce even better videos, thanks again dino for your comments ![]()

something I noticed today is most desktops in addition to having a mic input also have line(blue input) in and if you want to record from a Y chord out of your stereo recorder you need to plug it into the blue input not the pink(microphone) to get a stereo recording and change the input on your software selection (audacity) recording to line in not microphone to record stereo ![]()

Re: Fretboard stickers to quickly identify musical notes (18 replies, posted in Music theory)
if you really need to you could get some labels from any walmart they come in packs each strip is about a half inch wide you could write the notes you want and cut them and stick them between the frets under the strings.

Blue Ray the A/D chord means that A is the chord and D is the lowest tone in the chord all slash chords are this way just remember the letter to the left of the slash is the chord and the letter to the right is the lowest note in the chord ![]()

Re: Norwegian wood (10 replies, posted in Recording)
the next video will be a bit more challenging I am going to make a video of a recording session, each separate video will be me recording a track into my Boss digital recorder including the bass, lead and rhythm guitars along with the vocals (lots of work) but the end result with be a video with an audio track that was produced and mixed including pans and effects and the result should be a vastly improved video sound track to go along with some new ideas in video production I plan on incorporating as a standard for my videos ![]()

Re: Norwegian wood (10 replies, posted in Recording)
The process I use is to first do a video of just me singing with my guitar I am useing a Kodak C 813 easy share digital camera it takes great photos but also shoots videos I mount it on a small tripod and make sure there's plenty of light.
second I edit the video in the camera and only keep the edited version then upload to my computer and save it in my pictures and label the folder
next I play the video and film another video of me singing the low harmony then edit this and upload and label the folder
again I repeat the process and sing the high harmony then upload and label the folder, keep in mind I am watching the first video as I sing the harmony to insure the timing is correct then comes the fun.
I open my free AnyVideoConverter and select the format to convert the MOV file and that is WMV which reduces the total MBs to a fraction of the original then I delete the originals. When all the videos have been converted they are stored in the converters files so I open the files one by one with Windows movie maker the reason is the TrakAxPC trial version only recognizes WMV and AVI video formats so for this song I made three separate movies with no effects only because the Windows movie maker reduces the size even further now the clay is ready for the potter.
I open TrakAxPC and all the media files are located on the left and when you click on one it plays in the screen so you can preview it if you hold the mouse down you can drag it into the track area and it is processed into separate frames (this takes a few minutes) on the time line there is a track cutter but I dont need it as I have already edited the videos the rest is just posistioning each video and aligning the tracks (this takes time) then if I am satisfied with the end result I process the movie and upload. There is more but that is the basic idea ![]()
