I tend to agree with Zurf no one guitarist is the "greatest" because of all the different styles or genres of music I think there is a level that is invisible and endless waiting for the next musician or vocalist to take there place, some will arrive there by raw talent and genius others with hard work dedication and determination it favors no instrument we recognize these as "stars" some even worship them and erect shrines some copy them because they lack the originality and vicariously live there lives comparing themselves to there idols we can find them anytime on You tube smile

Having played professionally for almost 45 yrs I can tell you after the learning curve it gets to be more fun but learning the basic chords and some theory is essential to shorten the journey just remember to have fun with music if its not fun look for another vocation smile

Wayne I believe what go's around comes around when I think of all the gear (amps, mic's,guitars, effects,) that have been taken from me I could get really bummed but the one thing thieves cannot steal is my talent and love for music and when you think of it that is the most important asset smile

I used to be really serious about golf took lessons from the club pro I played every day for several years I had to make a choice and I gave it up for music my lowest round was 68 (18 holes) at the Dunes course in Las Vegas way back in the early 70ties it was a religion to me then all consuming then music made me come to my senses and I found Chordie Nirvana of the internet lol but I was good smile

OK, so are you talking about the "B" chord, as in the one that lies between Bb and C and takes eleven fingers to play on a uke, or is "B" just short for "Barre" chord?

(Sorry...all those responses were really funny, but I need to know if you're all laughing with me or AT me sad

Take the 11 fingered chord you need for your uke and add two strings and four more fingers and you've got the B chord for guitar.  The chord chart for it is in my new avatar.  You have to barre at the second fret all the way across, and then barre the D, G, and B strings but not the high e string at the fourth fret.  It's evil, I tell you.  Evil.  The chord can only be played by mutants, like Russell.  [LONG LIVE THE MUTANTS!!]

Russell once wrote a whole song that used nothing but B shaped barre chords called "Zurf and the Evil B".  There's something wrong with his head but his fingers work real good.  I think he's got a little cat DNA.  Except instead of retractable claws like a cat has, Russell has retractable fingers in the pads of his palm.

flester is sounds like you want sustain you can do that by cranking the distortion up and the gain down this will give a nice sustain and distortion at a low volume smile

hi dalesman to answer your question yes there are quite a few chords some are inversions or octaves of the chords you have already played the easiest way to understand is that there are three positions for guitar scales or chords on a guitars neck it has only 3 1/2 octaves that are reachable unlike a piano which has at least 5 if you learn a F major or minor bar chord this can be moved up the neck the same as a C7 or a Bb major or minor. a guitar neck is divided into frets each is a half step higher starting with the first these steps are called intervals as an example if you play a bar F on the first fret the same shape chord 2 frets up is a G understanding scales is the fastest way to understanding what the chords are up and down the neck scales are the basis for a chords construction if you learn what scales are you can make any chord anywhere on the guitar and like any instrument its a never ending quest for knowledge. smile

it makes no difference if you believe a statement is incorrect that is only your opinion what matters is what the powers that be think and this is true for any website and if your preference is for websites that dont have the type of advertising Chordie has why are you here?

Hi there - I don't feel it's "confrontational" when you defend yourself after a public statement has been made that is wrong.  I'm working very hard on my project and it's a labor of love.  I enjoy Chordie.com and all the resources available here, and I am creating a website that I believe people will find very valuable.

I'm just looking for any insight and help I can gather with regard to quality guitar lesson sites that are mostly free.  Almost all of those websites have some type of links to products or ads, so a little bit of that is okay, but I prefer sites that don't use the interruptive pop-ups and flashy animated banner ads that I see above me as I write this.

If anyone has favorite free guitar lesson sites that they enjoy, other than Chordie.com (cause I already love this one), please give me a note - thanks!
