I like the writing as well Graham, it is very, very  poignant and astute .

I believe there are several root problems, which includes what Dino alluded to - political failure (politicians that run for office making empty promises that never are fulfilled), as well as individual failure and motivation. But even that ( individual failure)  is rooted deeply in government failure, as (at least in the U.S.) we provide gobs of money and benefits to those who are less fortunate - for doing nothing ( and in some cases it the amount they receive is based on the number of children - hence - they just keep having them. . A person that is a desperate situation has little motivation to seek employment when they can make more at home receiving welfare benefits.  The rich ( including the politicians don't care b/c they have great lawyers and accountants to figure their way around financial responsibility, and pass it along to the working class to provide the tax funding. If you think about the gov't housing projects that you visited, it is really a unique plan by politicians and the wealthy to contain what they view as lower class citizens and a social disease  into one carefully selected area - away from where they live.

Now don't get my message wrong, I am firmly supportive of aiding individuals families lies that are in need and are attempting to find a better life, but those that sit back and just rape the gov't assistant plans are leeches.   I totally agree that education is a major tool that has to be improved in many cases, but  I believe taking action against the rampant drug problems in these areas is more urgent and vital. But as you indicated, police are not interested in going into those areas,  due to safety of course, but I think more so b/c of learned helplessness over the past decades. Simply put - their risks are not worth the rewards in those areas.

Ok - off my soapbox ---- Great literature on a social situation Graham - can't wait to hear the soulful music you attach to the message.

Guitars are like pringles,  betcha can't stop at one.......Never need an excuse ........

however, you always live with the fear that if you go into a coma, your wife will sell your guitars for what you told her they cost!  smile

Joe - excellent man... that line - Where were you when I fell in love- has a "radio ready hook" in it !   That is top shelf.   Get some drum loop and bass and send it to a recording company.  I literally can vision hearing that on the radio.  There are ten thousand or more guys and girls that would be tapping  their feet and singing along for sure!     Well done !!

That was incredible !   He did a great job. If you get the crowd at a 4th grade talent show clapping along - you have done something special.  Very nice voice, terriffic playing.  He definitely is gonna join Dad in the band !:)

Easybeat

She has a wonderful voice.  I would love to send her my song "Open Heart" that I posted a while ago here on chordie.  I am not sure as to how I would do that.  If you let know how, I'd love for her to cover it. If you go to search and type open heart - it will be listed there.

Again - she has a lot of talent - wow! It would be an honor to have her sing one of my songs.

Russell & Dino

Thanks for taking the time to give me some info.

I looked up the Digitech Trio..... seems like it's what I want, but there were quite a few negative reviews on Amazon for it - along with the usual rave reviews.   I was just wondering if you have actually used it and could give me an honest review .  $ 179 is what they are asking  for it and I don't want to spend that if it is not a good product. With my second daughter getting married within a year, money is pretty tight. smile

Thanks

Jim

Easybeat....

thanks

I had no Idea that I was going to write that song.....    I was driving down the road the other day listening to the radio (Outlaw Country on Sirius)   and a song by Ray Wylie Hubbard came on called Conversation with the Devil.  It had that little riff in it and it got stuck in my head. All day I kept playing it in my head.  Next morning the dogs woke me up at 5:10 am and so I was sitting on my porch with my Martin Series X and decided to learn how to play that riff. Finally figured it out --- probably would have taken anyone else on Chordie about a minute, but for me it was quite a while.  So as I was practicing it - i was trying to voice with   it and then words started popping in my head.  Playing and writing are my release from my crazy teaching and coaching pressures. I teach HS Social Studies as well as being the  athletic director and coaching three sports . I'm not a very good player and definitely not a singer - but I do enjoy writing.  Glad you liked it.

Where do you find   drum loops to use ?    I have been trying to figure out how to use "audacity" ( not very successfully I might add) .   I wanted to add some drum to my songs when I record, but can't figure out where to get the loops or how to put them in ( even if I do find them) . smile   Appreciate any help or advice you have.
Jim

added one more verse

Tweaked it a bit.

God be with anyone that has to deal with this piece of shit disease
