My three guitars, including my Fender, are all made in Korea they all play and sound great and to me, playability and tone are important, not where it was manufactured.

I had a chance to handle a 70's Korean made Fender the other day and I have to say that I put it down very quickly the action was torture and it was not well made at all so maybe the early ones were bad but, in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with them now and being made out of America keeps the price down.

China too is begining to put out some reasonable priced well made guitars, I have my eye on a Chinese Ovation copy at my friend's shop that gets an airing each time I visit.

Hi Fuersti and welcome to Chordie,

I have been hoping for someone to come and clear this matter up and using upper case for major and lower for minor makes perfect sense.

Regretably my German is non existant so I was unable to read the Wikipedia article.

Thank you for the imput,

I agree with Binman, you need to do something different. Branching out and expanding your song style repertoire is one thing you could do. You could also go to the new Theory section and practice at what Jerome has been showing us there. You could try writing your own songs and posting them in the Songwriting section for everyone else to enjoy. Recording the songs you know is also a fun thing to do and a very good way of checking and improving your technique.

Just some ideas to try,

Roger

For those of us who are not so young any more this Saturday morning radio programme presented by Uncle Mac was a must to listen to. I was reminded of it whilst researching a song for Lieven's car song thread when I came across this site which lists the favourite songs (including lyrics) of such classics as "Sparky's Magic Piano", "Nick Nack Padywack" and "Nelly The Elephant".

To be reminded of these and many more visit:  http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/radio/childrensfav.htm

Lo and behold,

Wikipedia had an article on Drop D tuning and the reason for doing it:

I hope that helps,

Hi Linusguitar,

Read through this similar thread from the Acoustic section: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8027

Montana this thread is about lowering the action (getting the strings closer to the fretboard) to make it easier to play. Please do not try anything here if you are unsure what you are doing as a mistake can ruin your guitar.

Hi Isaac and welcome to Cordie,

A nice little song for your first offering.

Incidently I removed the () brackets which seemed to be fouling up the formatting in your original posting and I also deleted the duplicate one you made.

Thank you and well done,

Roger

Hi Kap,

"Donna My Little Girl" is one of Jeff (Jets60)'s song which I adapted for my daughter Donna (who is not really so little as her son is 19 although she will always be my little girl). "Failed Marriage" was a poem that my ex-wife Sue sent me that I put to music. It is also me that is singing  and fingerpicking with Helena in "Will You dance With Me".

If you do open a MySpace be sure to sign up as a Artist, several of us have made the mistake of a normal sign up only to find that you cannot upload songs and have to cancel, wait 24 hours and re-sign. I run Friends of Chordie solely for the use of Chordie Members and I can always put a song on there for you if you wish.

Hi Kap,

If you care to go to: http://www.myspace.com/roger4songs you will find "Special You" and "Will You Dance With Me" of Helena's.

Unfortunately with MySpace you can only keep 6 songs and to be fair to all with Friemds of Chordie I have always removed the oldest song from there when a new one is sent to me to be added. This link I have given you is a spare MySpace of mine that I keep for such an eventuality as this. I am down in the Algarve at the moment and I think I may have some more of Helena's songs on my main PC back at home. When I get back I will look and see if I can find another two to add here.

You are of course correct, A good luthier will make adjustments at the nut but this is a more critical adjustment that at the saddle and the nut adjustment affects the playability at that end of the fretboard. The saddle adjustment affects playability higher up the keyboard.

I remember years ago when nearly all guitars has a fret immediatley next to the nut to control the string height but sadly these days that practice seems to have gone by the wayside.

Hello Wabby and welcome to Chordie,

Which guitar is best is a very emotive question as, at the end of the day, it is all down to opinion.

With your budget limit I would go round the local stores and try the ones in your price range not forgetting to ask if there are any used one to look at. Hopefully you will find one that feels good in your hands and sounds right to your ears. After all you will be the one playing it so your opinion is the that matters.

Good hunting,

Roger

Congratulations on reaching your century Daddycool,

Ken's comments about the flag got me curious so, being nosey, I have done a little investigating. Wikipedia states:

"Whether to use "Union Flag" or "Union Jack" is a matter of debate. One view is that "Union Jack" should be used only for the flag when it is flown as a jack (a small flag flown at the bow of a ship), but it is not universally accepted that the "Jack" of "Union Jack" is a reference to such a jack flag and is only an educated guess............"

So I guess either Union Flag or Union Jack is OK.

Further it shows that the 'Ensign' (whether Red, Blue, White or Green) is the flag flown at the stern of a ship.

However the Union Flag/Jack is most certainly British and not English so I would claim poetic licence on that one Daddycool. lol

Nice song and it is good to promote a bit of discussion.

Hi Daddycool,

A charming little song. Actually I, like Helena, am a dog person also. I wrote a 2,500 word story to prove this in 2006 when cats came into my life.

This song is rather apt for my cat Twinkle Toes as she regularly brings live prey in to play with and on several occasions they have escaped and one mouse lived in my caravan for three weeks before I was able evict it and it did quite a lot of damage to the wiring whilst squatting.

Since T.T. has been on her own she has befriended my landlady's dog, Bill, and is training him to become a cat by catching a mouse and releasing it in front of him so he will catch it and then release it for her, a game they both seem to enjoy. Here is a link to a picture of the two of them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/roger_guppy/2560963240/

I have come to realise that cats are in no way subservient like dogs and are far more independent and they enjoy going for a walk as much as a dog.

Sorry I am getting side tracked this should be about your song. Thank you,

Roger

Hi Buvvy and welcome to Chordie,

1947 was a vintage year for champage and all the best people were born then.  Having celebrated my 61st on May 3rd I am obviously in a position to know lol..............

Lieven my little bro,

Glad to have you back with us and it sounds as though the break has done you the power of good.

Hi Scuba,

Welcome to Chordie, I was trying to make sense of your posting and then spotted that you are Jerry's little brother.

My condolences to you at this very sad time, maybe you should try playing Dan's favourite song, quietly and gently, it may help. Some years ago when my father died suddenly I heard Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven", which I then learnt to play and found a lot of comfort from it. Of course as soon as I hear it now I think of him and remember the happy times and all that he did for me.

Hi James,

As the original recording artist of this song I have to say that I really enjoyed your 'cover' of it lol lol lol

I have always enjoyed this amusing song of yours and I do still play it from time to time. I am pleased that have got around to recording it yourself as this was the first song that I ever recorded and put on the Internet.

By the way I am 'purrfectly' willing to remove my version from YouTube now that you have your own.

Hello Dkelley and welcome to Chordie,

You will notice that I have removed the lyrics that you have posted. Please read the 'Sticky' titled "PLEASE READ THIS FIRST" at the start of this section to see why I have done so.

There is of course nothing to stop you sending them by private e-mail  to Sharkfin.

I saw a programme on the box last week that this young man was featured. When he moves he appears to to be clumsy and slow but put him a a piano and he is precise and decisive. A recording of a piece of music he had never heard was played to him he immediately played it note perfect and was then able to add to and embelish it. An incredible musician.

Hi Seriousfun,

A good song and a great recording, mind you I thought I had got the wrong track at first and nearly switched it off with the news report coming at the start. On saying that it is the perfect way to start to this song. Well done,
