Ijust picked up a sign for my office.  Not a bumper sticker per se, but iin the same vein:  "I do not have pet peeves.  I have kennels of irritation."

G, C, and D

C, G, and F

That's what I think that most of the ones I listened to were.  Or if not, they'll get you by with a capo.  Three chords and the truth!

Naked Ambivalence

- I'm going to put that in my hook book.  It could be a neat concept in a song about apathy.

I rather like The No Name Band.   Organic is better than branded.  Just ask a hippie chick.

Toots scores 10 points!

Yep.  I liked them real well.  I'm going to search down that DVD and buy myself a stocking stuffer.  Any one of those guys, or all of them, are welcome to pull up a cooler or a stump at my campfire any time.

Scales, arpeggios, inversions, and turnarounds.

I took a Sharpie to the Shenandoah River Jam last July with full intentions of having folks taking it to Ol' Reliable.  I just forgot.  There was a blind kid named Tate from a super-friendly and kind country family who played Ol' Reliable at a campfire like she'd never been played before, and I'd like to have had his signature.  I'm going to go toss a Sharpie into Ol' Reliable's gig bag right now.  To me, it would be like collecting memories.

That is so cool. I would love to hear the sound of a Strad repro.

I've got one.  In my hands, the sound is terrible.  Some reproductions are better than others.  Mine is not worth much.  $100 to $500 range, depending on who is looking and how much money they have. The value of mine is in the craftsmanship and the quality of wood, not in the fact that it is a Strad reproduction.  Those are everywhere.

That's one of the models I've had my eye on.  Great sounding guitar.  Much more mellow than the spruce topped guitars.

Please Daddy Don't Get Drunk This Christmas by John Denver

My wife hates it when I play that one.

Was that the one you sold, and now he's claiming he's the original owner?

That's my understanding.  He's giving false information about the item.  Listing the same thing twice at different price points is just... curious.  Nothing unethical about it that I see.  But listing false information that he KNOWS is false (i.e., not a simple error), regardless of whether the information is material to the value of the instrument, is inappropriate.

You should not be troubled.

He should be.

I know a couple/few pros too who have done the touring band and studio band thing.  Some are still doing it.  Do you know what?  Of the two I know who have been in the touring band for Nashville headliners, each of them have stated a preference that they'd enjoy a little time off to come fishing and join in on a campfire jam with the likes of us.  When your hobby is your job, you have a fun job but you no longer have a hobby.  I learned that with photography.

Beamer - Have you ever tried brewing your own beer?  I did it a few times.  It's fun, but required more care to timing than my schedule and lifestyle permitted.  So I gave my brewing equipment away to a friend who wanted to try it.  Anyway, if you're a beer snob, there's no better way to indulge yourself than to start messing around with ingredients yourself to see how they all come together in a finished product.

That's terrific!  I look forward to watching the video.  I had my hair cut today, and the nail salon next door was empty.  I considered going in and getting them done.  Then I changed my mind.  I think instead what I will do is to bring my guitar with me and play Wreck of the Old 97 for them to see how abusive I am.  You warned me to find a shop where English is the primary language, but I honestly have not found one around here that is within a price I can afford to pay.  Those are attached to all day spas where a mani / pedi is just part of the process.   They're so expensive that wine is often complementary.  I think instead I will just put on a demonstration.

How about I just raise a glass of it to all of you this evening?

With all sincerity, Chordie members have helped to save my sanity.  I am an extroverted individual, and while working at home has many rewards - satisfaction of social desire is not among them.  You all are my friends and my company while I sit alone in my small and pleasant office.  So... here's to you Chordians.  Consider yourselves toasted.

At long, long last, the picks around the world package has left my custody on its way back across the pond.

While I have had it for a ridiculous and irresponsible period of time (for which I truly apologize), it has serviced not only me, but also Normtheguitar, Jets60, and Detman101!

A little something extra was included for our next recipient as a symbol of my apology.

Very cool.  Good luck with it!

The other day I did my 1/2 hour on our elliptical machine (Demonic Dominater 2000) without music and nearly died as a result.  Emotionally speaking.  Today, I had the iPod going on a songlist I call "songs to be played loudly".  This is the music that carried me through the workout.

Rhumba Man by Jimmy Buffett
I'm a Man by Chicago  (lp version)
Oh Atlanta by Little Feat
Souled Out Holy Shoes by Denver and the Mile High Orchestra
I'm Just a Gigolo by Louis Prima

I barely noticed that I was exercising for 1/2 hour.  I maintained a slightly higher average speed and RPM.  AND I burned more calories.

I'll get real tired of hearing the same few songs over and over.  So what are your workout tunes that get you through?  Or the songs that get you moving emotionally if you aren't so much into the exercise thing.

Alvee - The ad says that he was selling the guitar because a paddling related injury prevents him from playing it.

Shy of losing an arm or his life, I'm trying to figure out what the injury would be.  If he lost his life, I expect that he wouldn't be writing an ad.

Paddling's sure enough hard on the shoulders, but it's hard to imagine anything short of dying that can happen on a river that hasn't happened to Dirty Ed two or three times and he hasn't stopped picking yet.  I hope this fellow recovers soon and learns that he can pick a guitar after all.

I'd be hard pressed to disagree with Fred Sokolow on how to approach a song.

Plus what dguyton said.  I move my thumb up for D chords.  I avoid F's.
