Hi Barrie welcome to Chordie this song was one of the most requested songs for slow dancing, the strumming pattern is a easy D D D DU D D D DU kind or it can be strummed as triplets 123 123 123 123 with each set representing one beat or even mixed, heres a link to a duo singing it with a guitar the strumming is a mix of triplets and you'll get the idea from watching there doing it in the key of C and theres only 3 chords to the song ![]()

I know you were not and I think you will really enjoy martin silk n steel and so will Emily and dont forget Carenza there may be jealousy after your paying more attention to Emily ![]()
Sorry Russ, not trying to "write you down," I put down what I believe most Chordians use in this context (plus I've used the Slinkeys on an electro acoustic, albeit many years ago).
I think I will try these Silk and Steel on Emily and if I like them then try them on Carenza. I know my local shop does regular Martin strings, will have to look into these

Kajima I have used elixirs they are very good strings but I like to switch off and use the silk n steel for recording the elixirs have more volume and last longer but for tone in my opinion the silk n steel just sound and play better ![]()

Hi Boro and welcome to Chordie and the super Slinky's are generally used for electric solid bodies or semi but they can be used on a acoustic (I wouldn't put them on) I would go with silk n steel by martin they have a easy playability and a great sound the Slinky's will sound quiet compared to whats recommended and when you play a chord its easy to bend a note in the chord just pushing it down and make the chord sound out of tune but it it works for you that's all that counts ![]()

I dont duplicate the lead solo I usually add a third above it kind of boston like it can be a really effective add also since I read and write music I can always chart the lead solo but usually I dont have to I guess it comes with experience and my God given gift I can play a phrase usually after hearing it or in some cases just watching a video and dont beat yourself up by branding yourself as a "auful musician" in music nothing is auful just some songs are not as pleasing as others to you ![]()

Re: Another recording question (8 replies, posted in Recording)
Geo even tho you think the acoustic track sounds good it couldn't hurt to add another useing the same chord posistions and pan them left and right Ive done this a few times to give the recording a fuller sound and sometimes I lay another acoustic track and play the chords in the second posistion give it a shot sometimes and see if you like it, if you have "messed up a track"take the time to redo it you dont get a second chance to make a first impression ![]()

It kind of go's with the territory,if you stand up in front on stage this is something you will have to get used to when performing before an audience not all of them are going to be respectful and most bars where some of the patrons have had a few to many they are going to be rude and oblivious to the entertainment its all part of live performance and any time you deal with the public this is to be expected your solution sounds like a good one play loud and drown them out ![]()

Re: Another recording question (8 replies, posted in Recording)
That depends on several factors in some cases useing effects at the beginning of the recording enhances and sets the tone for the whole recording a case in point, and old song "be bop a Lula"by Gene Vincent used reverb and delay in the recording and when they performed live also Les Paul made extensive use of "echo" effects in his early recordings and had many big hits as he practically or did invent the process. There are also some songs that use a vocal effect like Peter Frampton in hes early years,I think a little reverb or delay at the start dont hurt because they can always be mixed out or down and kind of set the mood for adding additional tracks so its really a personal choice ![]()

Lieven I dont think you ever need to say the words "I am a good guitarist" when you play things other guitarist try to emulate or copy you know it and ego has a lot to do with it,I know there are many out there who will say you should be humble but showing off for an audience or your friends has nothing to do with humility its the same as when you were a kid "hey ma look at me see what I can do" its ego pure and simple the need to be recognized, adored, admired and respected, all of these are related to your talent, hard work, devotion and love for your chosen field of endeavor ![]()

Re: recording your songs (21 replies, posted in Recording)
Welcome to Chordie I visited your website and listened to a few songs and found them quite nice and well recorded its interesting that you lay the drum tracks first I would think just a basic click track to keep meter and after the guitar then add the drums and bass but it seems to work well for you so that's all that matters very nice recordings and dont be a stranger here and thanks for your input
As a newbie to this board and forum, I thought I'd share my recording method - so you can all have a good laugh at it's byzantine approach, probably ! I have a zoom 16-track digital recorder - my first job is usually to lay down the drum track. I don't like the pre-set rhythms so I usually play 'live' drums on the pads that are on the zoom - since I'm a better drummer than I am a guitarist I find this a great part of the process. I then layer bass, guitars and vocals on, of course. I re-master on the zoom to the master track, but then dub that off to my pc where I have cooledit installed so I can top and tail the track and store various versions with various dynamics processing applied.

Re: recording your songs (21 replies, posted in Recording)
getfiddle dont use your monitors when recording use headphones turn the monitors off,mix the sound on the guitar thru the headphones and your recorder if it has a equalizer if not just get a good sound from your guitar and after its recorded then use the equalizer function on your recording program (audacity?) and during playback after recording if it sounds good in your headset it will sound good in your monitors
Wasn't sure if I should start a new topic for this or just ask it here! but since it deals with recording your own songs, I thought this the appropriate place for it. When recording, should you turn down your bass and treble settings on on your monitors and on your guitar, and use equalization later when you go to mix! Or does it matter?

Not at all
as long as you understand it that's all that counts,I really like my new 4 channel mixer it lets me play the acoustic and put the vocal at the same time on 2 tracks I first used it on "the truth" and again on "Invisible star" its really a simple way to achieve a good recording ![]()
