Seems like if your church paid for a license to copy music it must have purchased it from a union like the writers guild or ascap most music composers are registered with ascap and receive a portion of this fee,I would think secular music (worship songs) in the hymnals are the usual choice but some of the newer praise songs that appeal to the younger and older parishioners would be included with the more traditional hymns smile

Thanks Russ!

Wouldn't you think most artist (after they had their hit) would be some what flattered to have a hayseed like me like there song enough to perform it for my family and friends. Most things I would do are in my music collection in one format or another anyway.
Our Church purchased a license to be able to copy music but I am not sure it covers recorded music.

great stuff russel,

havent read the words as written above yet, but i have listened to the recording, your a very humorous guy, i smiled all the way through, and i could hear a banjo playing that super guitar riff, with a washboard and string bass in the rhythm section, and a snare drum played with brushes just to finish-off the recording.

excellent work russ

ps, i just read the words, love the parts about the "nudie bar" and "hands beneath her waist" you are awful...but i like you.

I think its a great idea for the phone companies that rake in the bucks everytime a kid texts a message the only thing is the parents have to pay for this if the kids had to I dont think it would be as popular smile

Hi mglen and welcome to Chordie I think desire is a important quality could be the most, its what fuels the passion and creativity and it sure dont hurt to have some fine equipment to transfer your ideas on,I'm fortunate to have some good gear also and I guess I could classify myself as seasoned having been in this for most of my life if you can give us a sample of a few of your songs i'm sure other members would be interested in listening to them smile

mglenn wrote:

I have seen some good answers to this question but desire is the most important part of working in a studio.
This is my first time on Chordie as part of my never ending quest for more information.
So far things look pretty cool.
If you have nothing else to work with, find an old cassette recorder and go sit on the john and play in a nice live bathroom for the natural reverb / echo. Ya know, like singing in the shower.

I am quite spoiled as I have quite an elaborate home studio and play most instruments, "well, not the oboe" but I started with an acoustic guitar and a tiled hallway.
Miracles can come from three chords, any kind of voice with the rite inspiration behind it.
While I will be happy to help newbies at getting into recording, I am predominantly looking for seasoned players.
Don't stop writing!!!
When Gershwin was asked how he had written so many successful songs, he replied, "when you write fifteen songs a day, something will eventually work"
Those are words to live by.

I was inspired to write this from a thread in the poem section its on myspace now it deals with reality from my point of view only, so if you got a sec give a listen smile

Phill sorry to confuse its just another way of saying only the living can have the blues and the link in blue above "still wish it weren't true"needs to be deleted its a link to a pdf file ken mentioned smile

Phill Williams wrote:

sorry i'm totally confused, i thought it was about mcdonalds and hamburgers in a deep sort of way, and what russ said only compounded my confusion...and i thought scottish colloquialisms were confusing? i didnt understand one word of russ's reply.
wait i just read it for the 3rd time...is it about guantanamo bay?  please excuse my denseness, but i'm brittish, and we dont go in for torcher...lol

a most effusive missive mr unhuh, well written and deeply felt on a highly contentious subject.

daddycool I wonder how many of the over 200,000 members are active on Chordie most just use the site for songs searches and dont participate in forum discussions so its a misleading figure also keep in mind there is a very small percentage of songwriters on Chordie who post regularly

Copyrights like patents can be renewed for a fee and I dont know to many people who outlive there copyright protection most just keep it in the family and there children inherit the rights and a copyright is only good in a court of law,to prove this work existed before the people your suing, anyone can and will record anyone's song and if its a hit they agree to pay a settlement to the artist who owns the copyright and most times it never go's to court and if anyone wants to steal my songs be my guest and I hope you have a big hit smile

That's a tough one, I always wanted to be a pilot but i'm near sighted and afraid of heights sometimes wanting something isn't enough even if you crack the books and practice the simple truth is not everybody is cut out for what they want and if you try sometimes you get what you need(see where I'm going here) if you enjoy playing that's reward in itself and if its not fun find something that is smile
