Yup, same here.... it does keep you logged in if you navigate from within Chordie , like to follow a link and then return. But if I close the browser I usually have to formally re-enter and it seems to be the same for just closing the tab as well. Part of that may be my browser preferences and how I don't allow cookies to be stored between sessions.
Now that Comcast is hitting us with data caps and additional charges for exceeding the limit (effective Nov. 1) I have been watching my total time on line in an effort to get a real idea of how much I actually am using. Even the small package of data to refresh a page open in a tab can add up over time, and with streaming services, game-play and all the rest of the stuff that goes on around here, I think I'm running near the high end of my allowance anyway, which includes wireless phone service hitting my WiFi and those passersby bouncing off the wireless modem they made me upgrade to.

Re: Outdoor Generators? (9 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Just another thing.... if you are also considering something for "standby power" (for those Winter power outages), a 1000W generator won't get you much for keeping your house functional. A few lights, the circulating fan on the woodstove, and maybe a low power microwave. It ain't enough to keep the well pump running, or the heat pump/furnace. Those kinds of loads will need something 4KW or bigger, and not something convenient to lug around. We would spend 5 months of the year out in the Arizona desert "camping", and our support trailer had a 5KW Inverter with 2 4D AGM Batteries, 1000W of Solar on the roof, AND a 5KW gasoline generator.... the little Honda was mostly just for running the microwave once in awhile, brewing that morning pot of coffee, and light loads for those times when we were using more than the Solar was providing during the day. The big generator would use about .9 gallons an hour under moderate load (lights, battery charging, refrigeration etc.) and it was over 20 miles round trip off-road to the nearest fuel station! You can only carry so many fuel cans on a quad y'know. ![]()

Re: Outdoor Generators? (9 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Howdy Kevin, well if I have this right, the input power rating of that amp is something like 280 Watts @ 120Vac, 60Hz. Bearing in mind that you want that to be pretty clean power without too many "ripples" and a constant frequency, I'd be looking at something in the 1000 Watt variety preferably one of the "Inverter" types that will electronically control the voltage and Hz regardless of RPM. Something like one of the Honda 1000i variety. Yeah they run a bit high in cost but are fairly quiet and frugal on the fuel side and that may be a consideration if you need a couple of hours of run-time and don't want to have it a long run of extension cord away.
Another option would be a similar sized Solid State Inverter and a battery of good size which is another heavy bit of kit to handtruck around, but at least totally silent. Once again you want a true RMS Inverter.... and they don't come cheap either. Inverters typically eat 10X the output in amps in the way of battery power (like 25-30 amps in your case for just the Marshall) so you'd need a BIG capacity battery (serious weight). For the $$ I'd sure be looking at the generator, and a good heavy power cord. We could run our little Honda "suitcase" for something like 5 hours well loaded on a couple quarts of pump gas, and it weighed about the same as your amp. Either way, I'd also feed it through a good surge protector just for the additional peace of mind and additional overload protection.
Just a (well educated) $0.02 worth...

The Dogs will be down this weekend to do it to them again!! First the Cats and now the Huskies.... no threat from my Beavers in the forseeable future although we'll be up there on the 22nd. Not a trip I'll be making though. WSU the following weekend down here.... Likely another "stuffing" and not even close to Thanksgiving! Same old story in Beaver Country in what feels like Forever.

Still a great way to start the weekend!

You will have to check dimensions for fit, but take a look at this case for an example. A good quality hard case will usually set you back at least $100, and can go pretty high. The extra protection is worth the $$ especially if you have to fly and trust your gear to baggage handlers (not that most won't take care, but stuff can fall off the trolly, especially "odd" shaped objects) ![]()

Check your preferences in your user profile, you should be able to select show songs in chopro format when available and toggle grids on /off in your display settings. With the upgrade, they might have reset to default text, no grids. You might also visit the About Chordie section for guides and discussions about the subject you are asking of which might be of more help. ![]()

Re: How Often Do You Change Strings (9 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
That's quite an overhaul, Doug ... sounds like you're glad to have finished the process. If you don't mind my asking, what string gauge did you move from / to, and why? It's always interesting to hear another guitarist's views on things like this. Thanks!
The Thomastik Infeld strings were flatwound Jazz/Swing Light .012. really nice and durable/bright string set which I liked a lot. But my Ovation is the shallow body AE which didn't have really enough volume to project well unamplified. I thought a heavier set would bring out a better balance, so the D'Addario EFT17 Flat Top .013-.056 polished strings are almost as smooth as the flat wounds and do have more "bottom" and seems balanced in tone on this shallow depth body instrument. As I finger-pick most of the time, all the help is welcome in getting loud without having to be excessively aggressive. I've used these EFT17s earlier and liked them, so figured I'd stay with them, but didn't do the full setup when I did the change as an "experiment" (that ran longer than expected). ![]()
I still use the Thomastik strings on my electric and will stay with them for all the good reasons, although it doesn't get as many "miles" put on it annually as my Ovation, that "lives" on a stand right here next to my desk to be played with during the day and while stalking spammers in the evening. ![]()

Re: How Often Do You Change Strings (9 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
All this talk about strings, made me feel guilty.... so today I changed the set on my Ovation. Took most of a rainy Sunday afternoon to get it done what with the truss adjustment (overlooked last time and needed because of guage change), fret leveling & crowning, bridge adjustment and finally getting everything up to pitch.
A short chat on the phone with another guitarist friend, reminded me that it had been almost TWO years since I'd done the switch back to D'Addario EFT17 from the Thomastiks. You'd a thought I'd have heard how dead the poor things were.... a Huge Improvement both in sound and playability. But I figure I put about 3-4 hours a day on the things, so I got my $$ worth! ![]()

Re: restrictions (9 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Well Howdy, I don't know if there are any restrictions in force.... but then again I don't keep a songbook here on Chordie. All my stuff is stored on my local media so it is available when the internet is not. I have been watching this post of yours hoping someone with experience would wander along and post something helpful, but as that has not happened yet.... didn't want you to think we were "ignoring" your question.
The only thing I could suggest is to be sure and hit that "save" button at the lower part of the page after you "add" the tune to your book, otherwise it will be gone when you return to the page. Sorry I can't offer more assistance at this time.
Thanks for asking !!

Re: Classical Guitars And Others (30 replies, posted in Acoustic)
CG, Actually I'm criticising myself for not being more diligent in what and how I play. Grown lazy and just plain sloppy.... the Classical requires attention to all the right things I should be doing, and brings out sonically all the things I have overlooked. Many of which I have suggested to others in their journey like elevating the neck to get the thumb in better position for barre chords without undue stress on the wrist causing cramping (and potential carpal tunnel damage), locating the correct strings with the plucking fingers without support and such. The electric guitar was making such a "slob" out of me I went (willingly) back to acoustic for similar reasons. Once in awhile though, I revert and realise how easy it is to "hide" poor technique with effects and a wall of "noise".....
You have to get back to your "roots" now and again to see how far you haven't progressed, but it's still fun, and one of those things you can derive great satisfaction out of in your "old age".
I enjoy our conversations and look forward to meeting you at one of the Chordie functions sometime/where down the road.

Re: Classical Guitars And Others (30 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I usually change all of mine at the same time, and base it on sound. That normally means 10 to 15 hours of playing time.
Well that confirms it !! I don't play mine NEARLY OFTEN enough ! ![]()
At that rate, I'd be changing strings like every 5-6 Years.... on the other hand though it wouldn't feel so strange when I do get a hankering to play .... and I'd be better at it. Neck's too wide & flat, action's too high, fingers getting fat, posture, posture, etc... sigh.

This is something like what you are seeing on the Yamaha from a different angle courtesy of the Taylor Guitar Folks.
https://www.taylorguitars.com/sites/def … k=ynki-UBr
I personally use a variation of this but more like the high E string with one "twist" before diving behind the bridge... particularly notice how each string is also "clinched" by it's neighbor. No slipping that way for sure!

Re: FAV SONGS (21 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Thanks for the "heads up " Phill.... I'll wander out there and give a listen. Thinking back, I remember a fellow at University (I'll call him Scott because he is still in broadcasting and well known hereabouts
), who ran a "bootleg" station out of his Dorm Room. The Federal Communications Commission was always trying to find him, so he'd change frequency often and had a random schedule. Something like 30,000 watts of output that still didn't go too far because he had "tapped into" the gutters and downspouts of the building for an antenna (the ONLY reason they didn't catch him... no visible mast). Scott had a good collection of "restricted & banned" music that folks got to hear which was not available even in the Stores. Lots of others loaned records for grins, and broadcast information was passed by "word of mouth", when the streetlights dimmed it was about time to tune-in!
Pirate stations were at he cutting edge of freeing up the airwaves and bringing new artists and Bands into bedrooms and dashboards of a whole generation.... despite the Censors and objections of our "Conservative Parents".
Hats Off and a Hearty Thank You !!

Re: Need help figuring out these chords (1 replies, posted in Song requests)
Howdy and Welcome to the Chordie Forums !! First off, not being that big of a Country music fan, I looked and listened to the tune on YT. Other than being a "real tear jerker" and not too complicated..... I noticed that it was mostly Keyboard. So in order to get close to the original key signature, you will likely have to capo on 2 to fit the Piano chords.
Now for the "fun part" visit Chordify.net and feed it through their online translator (you may be able to just direct it to the YT URL for the tune) and see what it comes up with. The results are surprisingly accurate, although I'm expecting it will give you chords for Piano (which is why the capo, no transposing needed). ![]()
Like you I was not able to find it on the web either, but Craig might have the sheet music for sale via his own website.
Good Luck and Thanks for asking!

Re: FAV SONGS (21 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I often wondered where all those little stations went...... being a "child of the 60s" getting used to being back in the States. Waking up to "The Real Don Steele, on 93KHJ" at 9 in the morning on a "Beautiful Sunny Saturday here in Boss Angeles where it's 72 degrees and Surf's Up with The Beach Boys... Help Me Rhonda!". Radio was supported by Advertising revenue, and if you had a good sales staff, you could pretty much play anything the censors would pass. Record Labels mailed out thousands of "demo" vinyl disks (usually 45s) and the DJ picked the playlist based on his own opinion and call volume on the "request lines are open", not compiled by some bean counter in an office on the other coast, based on if this or that Studio was paying an extra hundredth of a cent for every time it aired on one of your stations.
Sorry for the run-on sentence there.... I do miss the "Wolfman", Charlie Tuna, and the "gang". I listen to the College Stations these days (not revenue driven so much), although there are a few I avoid.... one in particular only has like 30 tunes it cycles through, which wouldn't be bad IF I only wanted to hear Rap and Hip-Hop repeated hourly all day long.
There are a couple Country stations out there too, but they "jumped the Shark" and signed on to the Conglomerates also..... which means now I can hear the same 30 country tunes cycled through every hour all day long for a change of pace. Hello Pandora!
edited to correct radio station from 92 to 93.... which by the way is now located in American Samoa.

Re: New Public Books? (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Howdy Adam, I think it is just that there have been fewer new books published recently. Once in awhile I will change the filters for something like percent edited and change genre to drill into a different selection. Now that you mention it though, I too notice that the line-up seems fairly "fixed" recently.
