tony I have a series of video tutorials on audacity and there free to download from my mediafire link at the bottom of this post,I would suggest downloading 1,2,3 and 4 from the Audacity folder they are visual aids that will answer your questions regarding Audacity,I think if you can download a minimum of 35 MB you should be alright and they do make jump drives to store music you process with audacity that adapt to a USB port with regards to connections the videos are self explanatory they can provide the information regarding what is needed and any questions you have just ask and I will do my best to help and if I dont know the answer there are many here who do and would be just as eager to help smile

I use a Boss micro br recorder, which I love, but it has some limmitations, ie the drum unit is off or on all the time.

I have a lap top and wonder just what I would need to use a computer as a recording studio.

how fast
how much memory
what cards
what conections
what software (I have downloaded Audacity, but in truth I don't understand it)
what do I need to learn (technically)

Thanks

Hi Mizaua and welcome to Chordie, are you asking for power chords for a bass? or a guitar? to my knowledge there are no "power chords" for a bass, a chord requires 3 notes and three notes played on a bass might sound a bit muddy. The term power chord is generally applied to a guitar using an arrangement of 1st posistion A shaped chords smile

I would like to learn about power chords. I'm sure they can do it on a bass guitar, do you think is it so hard to learn it?

micky you could also play B7 as 22120x as the F# is covered on the 6th string and since your fingers are large you should be able to cover both the E and A strings with your 2nd finger smile

evsynator what you describe is looping, also the use of effects I liken to the use of colors on a artists easel he paints a canvas blending hues and dark and light values I enjoy painting or just sketching with a pencil, when I first started sketching I would draw a house and then a tree and add some mountains or a lake but then I realized its quite the reverse you shade the areas to produce the image and it magically appears so it is with music its been said silence is a composers canvas smile

evsynator wrote:

I was always against effects etc ... until I saw a few guys using them as individuals and come to the conclusion that that using them can be an art in itself done by the right people .... to see one guy actually use them in a performance can be great ... the main one that changed my mind was seeing a guy do "baba o rielly" originally by the who... it transformed my way of thinking - it made me realise there is a way of being exceptionally clever with effects and not just bluffingyour way through ... I dont know if this is what your thinking Russell ?

this was done by some kind of looping device where he played the first bit then gradually added other bits and built it up and then deleted bits and finished with other bits etc .. but all done live ....

one of the rewards of taking the time to learn music theory is you can find the correct chords to transpose to any key with just a piece of paper and a pencil and then without them smile

Harry are you learning on an acoustic or electric? it its acoustic you really dont need picks or hard nails the tips of your fingers will harden but if your playing flemenco or some classical style then longer fingernails are usual but even playing an electric picks are optional smile

My new student brought this effects unit with him for his first lesson and left it with me till his next lesson in one week so out of curiosity I googled it up and checked out all the on board effects demos I was surprised to learn my digital recorder has all the same effects as the me-50 plus a whole lot more but this is a three pedal unit designed for live performances and is a rugged piece of hardware,in the past I have taken my Boss BR-8 to some gigs and recording sessions and used it in much the same manner as this unit but was careful not to subject it to the rigors it was not designed for now I just use it to record at home or in the recording studio because of its portability,I first purchased it for close to $800.00 over ten yrs ago and it has never failed or given me any problems but if I were still in a traveling band or gigging steady I would recommend something on the order of this Boss ME-50 to be sure there are other effects units that are just as reliable and combination looping and effects pedals even amps that contain looping effects along with delay and sustain but a floor unit is more practical for live performances because all the effects are on stage in easy reach and any effects can be switched with a tap of your foot a lot different then the old days of fuzz tones and stomp boxes hooked in parallel, makes you wonder where the future of effects processors will lead smile

That's a great song jimmy and seasick steve really has a nice feel for an audience and I like the ease at which he played it was fun learning,I did have to play the video a few times to get the slide technique he used which was a combination of finger picking and slide work then tune the strings for the exact sound I used a small glass slide on my third finger to free my second to fret the note thats in between the slide up to the 5th fret and the change in between is a straight bar on the 5th down to the 3rd plus some cool notes along the way but thanks for posting this link it was a very enjoyable learning experience smile

Camaronki you are correct Kurt Warner did play for the St.Louis Rams I found some interesting facts on his career,he played 1 yr with the Giants before comming to the Cardinals smile
Kurt Warner was born on June 22, 1971, in Burlington, Iowa. His early football career included Regis High School and the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). Warner was unable to start at UNI until his senior year, and he responded by winning Gateway Conference Player of the Year. However, Warner was not drafted in the 1994 NFL Draft and he worked at a grocery store until his football career picked up again in 1995.

The Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League signed Warner to a contract in 1995. He played with the Barnstormers through the 1997 season and established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in AFL history. He was so impressive that the St. Louis Rams of the NFL decided to sign him prior to the 1998 season.

Warner appeared in only one game during the 1998 season and attempted only eleven passes. It was in 1999 that Warner put together one of the best seasons for a quarterback in NFL history: 4,353 passing yards, 41 passing touchdowns, NFL MVP, Super Bowl championship, and Super Bowl MVP. Even though he missed five games during the 2000 season, Warner still managed to pass for 3,429 yards and 21 touchdowns. He had another NFL MVP year in 2001 with 4,830 yards and 36 touchdowns, but his numbers have dropped off significantly over the last six seasons of his career. This is due mainly to Warner suffering from nagging injuries that have relegated him to mainly a back-up. After the Rams, Warner spent time with the New York Giants and he currently plays for the Arizona Cardinals. Through the 2006 season, Warner has career totals of 1,717 pass completions, 21,474 passing yards, and 131 touchdowns smile

just curious charlotte,do you ever empty the prefetch folder? its something I learned from Doug Smith and his son Devon,if you have never done so there could be tons of disposable junk that is slowing down your computer and just adding useless bytes to your hard drive but my vista program has only frozen on Chordie(weird) and I had to reboot it and everything is fine for a few days but it returns, and I dont know if its just my browser but myspace is really loading slow it could be this new revamp still has bugs smile

charlotte wrote:

I've had the 'freezing' problem with Vista for some time now but just somehow get used to it as the computer is out of warranty. It seems to sort itself out after rebooting and goes for weeks without it recurring.

The first time it freezes and stays there I'll take it for a swim at the local park.

yes I was fortunate I got my new computer from a friend who owns an auction house we used to sing in the same church choir and his auction business was still a fledgling business but he built it to a very profitable enterprise and one day I visited one of his auctions and stuff that I helped him move out of attics all dusty and worn were selling for ridiculous bids,I remember one item an old worn chair the winning bid was $250.00 I remember because I carried it to the truck but he told me that he had some computers and monitors coming next auction and if I needed one to let him know so I asked "how much" he sold to me for the foreclosure price of $100 a brand new gateway running a vista program and the guy that fixes all his electronics is the same person who fixed mine lucky day smile

well the guy fixed it and it only cost me $5.00 for his gas to bring it to me,of course I am returning the favor by setting up and restoring a 1938 hawaaian steel guitar and he has some extra surround sound speakers for my new 19 inch digital flatscreen tv and larger puter monitors we can dicker on he likes blues and I am giving him some lessons free on how to play slide so it all worked out ok and by the way he built my computer so if ever I have any problems I have his card and the repairs will be free (my favorite price) I only have to pay for the parts he dont have laying around, nice smile
