OK I sat down this afternoon and I have just finished recording Wagon Wheel. Again a choice of song that I do not know but I really enjoyed doing this one. As a change from tradition I have no drum and bass from Band-in-a-Box with this time, just me fingerpicking my Nashville tuned guitar and strumming a standard tuned one.

Hi there,

As your query has nothing to do with the topic where you posted it I have removed it and opened a new topic for you.

You really need to talk to a lawyer specialising in this field for the definitive answer but, to the best of my knowledge, posting copyright lyrics with out permission or the necessary licence is illegal. Now whether 'they' would take action against an individual who was making it available to a small number of students for teaching purposes I do not know, I guess a lot would depend on whether you were doing it for monetary gain or not.

I was pleased that Portugal won. For an hour after the road alongside the bar I was at was nose to tail with cars moving at a snail's pace or stationary, horns were honking incessantly, and people were driving down the road, hanging out of their windows, waving flags and cheering (the police were turning a blind eye). There was such jubilation and I got several big hugs from some very pretty young ladies, including the 4 in this car. wink big_smile

Bill has two Facebook accounts. I found the one that he does not use smile but, and I must be honest here, I then used Scott's to get the correct link. big_smile

My offering of Down on the Corner. Drum and bass courtesy of Band in a Box. Guitars, autoharp and vocals are mine.

I could not find you Bill, there are just too many Bill Craigs. It is OK with a name like mine as there are only 3 Roger Guppys on Facebook, however I did search by your e-mail address and found you immediately. You have a 'Friend's Request' big_smile

OK. Again we have songs that I do not know and have never heard until I followed the links to what is posted here. Well done to you all.

I am going listen to the original and try and learn Down on the Corner this weekend to record it on Monday (if I can) and then look at Wagon wheel for next weekend. Fingers are crossed. big_smile

Roger

Please enter my name for selection. I will now put my thinking cap and try and come up with a suggestion just in case I am lucky enough to be chosen................. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm                             let me think?????????????????????????????

Great Jan, they do have a unique sound. but they are not so easy to play these days. The post WW11 one I had that was stolen was played on one's lap. The chord bars were nearer to the tuning pegs and it could be strummed between the bridge and chord bars. Since June Carter (Johnny Cash's better half) became renown for playing one above the chord bars, they are all now seem to be designed to be played that way.
Here is the earliest recording that I know of a hit song where one was used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKywhQVWyew

Joe (unclejoesband) suggested I record something with my new toy so here goes. The intro and first verse are just the autoharp, at the first chorus have included a second autoharp track and a fingerpicked Nashville tuned guitar track.

The song I chose to do is a 2007 original written by a very accomplished harp player, James McCormick. This is the link for the lyrics and chords if you wish to play along: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1344

My recording is here: https://soundcloud.com/roger-guppy/one-of-these-days

As Joe says, learning to play 'C' to 'F' is a good exercise but if you play your 'C' chord as 'C/G' like this:
http://jguitar.com/images/chordshape/C-Major-G-3,3,2,0,1,0.png

Then changing to 'F' entails moving the three fingers on the 6th, 5th and 4th up a string in unison across to the 5th, 4th and 3rd, then barring the index finger and make it a far simpler transition.

A true 'C' should be played on 5 strings only but the majority of us will play all six, and C with an E base does not sound as sweet as c with a G base.

This was the original chord layout of the instrument. I was advised by a friend, who is a very experienced player, that the circle of fifths scheme makes it much easier to play so yesterday I stripped her and re-positioned all the chord bars and keys to look like this:

I also set to and recorded something to try out the new layout. As soon as I have permission I will post it for you to hear (that is if you want to big_smile)

Roger

Love the new look.

P.S. If not one of the above why not try Knockin' on Heaven's Door

lol lol lol

Happy retirement and enjoy the gigs. The only big trouble with retirement is that you never have enough time to do the things you want to. big_smile
