Joe!  You put yourself out there too!  NICE!!!! big_smile  I'm proud of ya, keep it up and you'll be harmonizing along with me this summer!  I remember you playing this last year.  It's come along quite nicely.  You know, when I listen to you play I think sometimes I should set the guitar down.  You've got a few experience years on me though.

PURTY!  As usual, I know little to nothing about electrics.  However, I agree... black knobs will look better.  Hope it plays as nice as you're expecting!

Glad ya'll are enjoying these!  Jim, you make me blush!  wink

Ok, so I had to listen to a bunch of this gal's songs to find one I liked the best.  Her voice is a bit too nasally for my likes.  She seriously needs to push consonants more, as her words tend to run together in a flurry of vowels.  I hope that doesn't sound too mean, but I almost didn't put her songs up because I'm picky like that!  She's STILL got some serious vocal skills, some really thoughtful lyrics, and chord progressions.  This one is one of more clearly vocalized songs she's got up there.  Hope you enjoy!

I just wanted to add here that I've also got a "possible maybe" from Big Jim - shoot, I can't remember his Chordie username - he hasn't been on in a while, BUT I know some of ya know him!  smile

Hey Scott!  I moved this over to the "My local band and me" section from the chat section for you.  This is where we put most of the recordings, if they are covers or originals without detailed song info.  smile

Look at you putting yourself out there!  It's not easy, for sure.  Keep it up; as a general rule, singing gets better with practice!  As always, interesting verses and meaning behind the lyrics.  Thanks for sharing!

Soooo... did you get her restrung and strummed yet?  big_smile

I think the idea here is just to think... hypothetically, if you could specify the perfect for you "extra" guitar.  Be it a campfire guitar, or the one you take with you on a short road trip, playing around in the back yard or at a family style get together.  No tossing it in the fire, and no one so drunk that they'd crush it LOL!  I personally bring my Martin along with me to the campfires. I took it to PA. I haven't packed it in an airplane yet, that's too scary.  I think we're talking a guitar that would alleviate some GAS and put a smile on your face.  Of course a one off custom would be expensive (Martin- basic no frills guitar from Koa - ok, that'll be 7 grand) but we can dream!  Anyhow, I don't think we're talking custom, just... what are the features that you would want in such a guitar?  If you COULD have one made to your specs, what would you ask for?

12 fret, so you've got a shorter neck for ease of travel (and it has no need to be extra loud).  I don't have a use or a cut-away (what the heck do you do beyond the 7th fret?  LOL).   00 size, I agree with Ken on that one!  A slotted head stock, to keep tuning pegs out of the way from getting bumped (with closed tuners, so dirt and grime doesn't get into them). I like Joe's idea of the locking pegs though I've not yet strug a guitar with them, or really paid much attention to the ones here that have 'em.  I agree with others that laminate sides and back are probably a good idea.  If I'm paying over $500, it needs a solid top.  WHAT MATERIAL?  I'm not sure... I'm so partial to my mahogany and so far everything else I've heard sounds similar to my ear (or rather, NOT mahogany).  I suppose a standard sitka spruce top is fine, especially to keep the price down.  That said, I really think I'd like my next guitar to be Koa, and since I'm dreaming here, I also want a heart shaped sound hole.  That's not happening, but still I just had to toss that in there.  wink  Basically, nothing too jangly (yes, I realize Koa starts off jangly, but it should open up to a richer sound).

Most important is play-ability.  I'm with Roger, can't stand the big rounded back necks I've found on Gibsons.  I don't mind a wider neck, but I like them fairly flat in the back.  A low oval shaped neck. I tend to have issues with a neck that's too skinny though (which I find happens in a lot of electric guitars).  A pick guard is essential (tortoise please).  I don't think it should have any on board electronics.  I'd rather bring the clip on tuner along.  It should have strap buttons ready to use (a minor thing sometimes not added). Binding, inlays, rosette bling are all unnecessary. And along with the looks, lets see the wood.  Tusq nut and saddle.

OK - so what about bracing guys?  I don't know anything about it, but I do know there are opinions out there.  wink

Yeah Amy, I plan to be there.  I'm about 90% sure that I'll be accompanied by Jen and our dogs.  It'll be another chance to use our new camper.  I just received a 2016 brochure from Oneida Pines campground yesterday and plan to stay there again.  If something comes up and Jen can't tag along I'll just come by myself and tent camp.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again and enjoying your family's hospitality and meeting JJJ and his crew.  I'll miss seeing Roger again and hearing his repertoire of ballads.

Whooo Hooooo!  big_smile  This is FANTASTIC NEWS to get first thing when logging in this morning!  I do hope that Jen and the pups can make it.  You'll have to let me know what types of things Jen is into seeing or doing.  Off the top of my head, I think if I were in her shoes I'd want to take a short shopping excursion. If you decide to come in or head out a more Westernly route, she may enjoy checking out the Waterloo Outlet Mall.

Now, Scott... aren't you going to be doing a little cross country traveling right around this time frame?  You SURE you can't just pop up this way along the route?  wink  wink

JJJ - Check your FB messages!  smile

It will be very cool if you can make it in person, Zurf.  If we have to though, we'll figure something virtual out!  wink

Kim - Videos, sound clips, photos... yup!

Roger, you will be missed very much!  The girls have been harassing me to get an answer.  I think they feel like they won't have as much fun this summer without you here.  Hmm... now I'm going to have to find a way to compete with THAT!

DE hasn't commented yet.  I hope Gary's family hasn't scared him away.

UJB - EXCELLENT!

JJJ - just how picky are the ladies?  Are we talking... motel - like a Knights Inn, or something a little nicer... or do they need something more like a Hotel?  Hotel... like a Days Inn or something with an indoor pool and maybe a casino on the premises?  ie:  under$100/night or up to $200+/night?  smile  Also, will one of them be staying beer and alcohol free so they can drive?  And how does the driver feel about driving in the dark without many streetlights for about 10 minutes down a rural county road (deer crossings)?  Solid answers to these questions will assist me with finding you the PERFECT location (as crazy as that might sound)!  Also, there is NO wrong answer.  I should be able to hook you up with a DD for one night if need be.  wink

Okily Dokily Folks, the DATE IS SET!

This thing is happening the weekend of August 5-6th 2016 - that is approximately 3 months and 2 weeks from today!!!!!!

If you can only make it for ONE day - be here August 6th!  If you can make it for the whole weekend, come on up Friday and stay till Sunday - or come up sooner and/or stay longer! If you let me know what will work best for you at LEAST by the first week or so of July, I'll make sure I've got the extra time off to visit, play guitars, or at least make ya some dinner!  Extra visitation time is NOT a burden on me at all. I work from home and do NOT see adult human people often enough.  The excuse to take extra time off and hang out is WELCOME (Roger was here for 2 weeks last year... we loved having him here every minute!)

The closer we get to the date, the more I will harass you all with encouragement to make it here!  There are a few Chordians who were not able to make it last year, but were on the "maybe" list (ahem - Jim K and Dave).  I sure hope you can make it this year!  If I don't see you guys in this thread, you know I'll be harassing ya with an email eventually.  JJJ is planning to be here, and he hasn't met a crew of Chordians yet!  UJB - I'm PRETTY sure will be here.  Of course there's myself, MKD, and the MKK, and MKG (WHAT? = MekidsDad, MekidsKids, MekidsGrandpa - lol, the "mekids" family).  I keep trying to get Zurf to make his way up here, although every time he thinks about upstate he overshoots and plans to visit the wineries in the Finger Lakes.  THEY ARE close... but you gotta stop here on the way!  wink  KEN, what do you think?  Will Jen and the camper make it this year?  I know for a fact that a certain little blonde haired blue eyed beauty is hoping to see you again!  Not just her of course though.  Myself, Jim, Steph and my Dad - along with the rest of the crew!  We've got a few box drums here now too.  After the PA gathering, it was apparent that a little percussion was needed in our lives.  So, even if Steph doesn't choose to shower us with her guitar abilities, she WILL lay down a nice beat on the cajone to join in!

OK -so same deal as last year, if your interested, make a note here.  If you wish you could make it but can't, make a note here and tell us why you can't (maybe we'll be able to convince you how silly your reason is).  In a few weeks, I'll send out preliminary emails with the address (unless you need it sooner) to those interested and likely to make it and I will be more than happy to help with whatever planning is necessary from finding a motel/hotel/campground/etc or reserving a space in the yard or on the couch!  smile  Let's get this party started!!!!

Amy
ps - when I say "I" ... I mean "WE" - Jim is totally on board with the whole party and helping to make it happen.  I'm just the "spokeswoman"  LOL!

CHEATER!  LOL!  I love my capo.  smile  In fact, I have this printed out in the front of my binder of songs:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=15164  wink

If you reply to that email, even though it may show as chordie mailer (admin@chordie.com) as the recipient, it SHOULD actually send the reply to the proper person.  If you're using the Windows 10 email program, I've found that switching over to web-based email seems to show the proper address rather than chordie mailer automatically before you send.  For example, when using my gmail account... I switch over to webmail to reply to forums based emails to ensure I've got it right.  smile

Hey Bill, we can't merge it into this thread... it would end up as it's own thread, and then Gaham's reply wouldn't make a lot of sense, and you'd have two threads about the same thing going in this section.  But, you can certainly link over to it... or I can for ya!

Here's Bill's funny story:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic. … 11#p172611

I don't have any funny gig stories.  I haven't had very many situations that could be considered actual Gigs.  Pops and I took over an open mic once, and we were paid in drinks (it wasn't supposed to be for pay, but no one else showed up so we kept the place going with music).  I got paid to sing at a wedding ceremony - that was awesome, nothing funny happened.  LOL!

Loving your stories though!  Keep em coming.

My dad was very attached to a cap like that when I was a kid. I think my dad actually wore a flat cap (I recall tweed, a snap in the brim, and a silky type of lining), but may have referred to it as his Ascot (which looks similar but from what I can see online in descriptions are rather different).  But, he pronounced ascot in a way that sounded little more like ... well... "donkey cap" wink

NICELY done!  And... that was really nice of you!  wink

sad  RTF ... rich text file - that's just like, words and stuff.  Sounds like you might have it in some other version somehow, since you believe you've got a recorded version???

Is it possible someone emailed a sound recording to you, and you just need to dig through old emails to find the actual recording and download it to the computer?  Perhaps you can convince Phill to send you a new email with the sound file.  He's a pretty nice guy, and I bet he would do that for ya!

OR - do you need to actually open up that text file containing all the words, somehow?  an RTF file will NOT Have a sound file include inside it.  But, if you need a word processing program, I can direct you to an open source program that is a very nice alternative to Microsoft's suite of word/spreadsheet/database/powerpoint -- It's called Open Office.  Open Source means that it's FREE to download.  I don't do a lot of word processing on my computer, but when I do, this is what I use.  This page will give you more information about it: https://www.openoffice.org/product/index.html  And you can download it by clicking on their download links here:  https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

You know what Bill?  I have an idea... drop me an email, or I'll send one to you later on if I can remember.  I might just have an idea that will help you out, assuming you've got a decent internet connection.  smile
