This is a song I dedicated to the late Lenny Bruce, its a laid back blues but reminiscent of the New Orleans street jams and this was a jam session I had with myself and my recorder this evening, I used a bass, drums one rhythm guitar and two separate lead solos and included a slide steel Dobro for the atmosphere. I met Lenny briefly in Los Angeles at one of his gigs on sunset strip, several weeks later he overdosed on heroin a sad loss for improv comedy you can listen on the myspace link at the left (website) just click it on when you have a little time ![]()

Re: Newbie-Need help with reading chords!!! (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I think dino,s advise is probably your solution get a basic chord book from any music store and they will indicate which finger go's where plus a lot more helpful info and after you learn the basic posistions the Alchemist program can take you further because you will understand why those dots are where they are on a chord diagram ![]()

Re: Newbie-Need help with reading chords!!! (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
you may find help with a free program called Guitar Alchemist it gives all the chord fingerings as well as a fretboard that indicates what finger go's where for any chord this is the link and itsl totally free and fun
http://www.guitaralchemist.com/index-1.html
Hi all,
I have been learning some guitar for the past month and a half with limited guidance from a friend. For the life of me, I do not understand how to read the chord charts that are displayed on this site and other sites.
I have searched other posts and have not read an explanation that I understand. I need a visual that shows me where to place my fingers on the frets. I thought you place your fingers on the strings that have the dots. For example, I was just looking at the C#m; one of the charts has six dots, but I only have five fingers. And then for some there are x and o at the top of the chart.
I do understand that the number next to the chart is the fret number.
I have been getting songs from ulitmateguitar.com. And, the chords that people post there confuse me when I look at the chords on this site.
The few chords I have practiced with, I have had some success with changing between them. So, I am so stoked about learning.
I would greatly appreciate some help.
Thanks,
Tom

I have updated my profile on wikipedia and all the information is verifiable so if a challange or "swift deleting" notice is posted I can back up any additional imformation with facts I have included a mention of chordie with references to its membership number, and the fact that its the largest search engine on the internet and my video tutorials for beginners on recording tips, also a reference to my city of residence (several historical landmarks are located here) and "Fish day" the largest annual gathering of the celebration of (you guessed it)eating fish! and listining to name bands and consuming quantities of alcholic beverages topped off by a dazzling fireworks display and all these facts are ALL verifiable so lets see how this floats ![]()

yes it seem good news is not as sensational and the media focus is on getting the viewer, reader or listeners attention I dont watch tv a lot eccept for football or movies and what news I need to know is available on the web anytime and CNN online is a more open minded view of world events then the major networks "so always look on the brite side of life do do, do do do do do do" ![]()

Re: Can THE GREAT SUPERBANDS remember their songs playing live? (2 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Doc the groups you mention (dont know about U2) The "stones and eagles" were touring recently and the eagles just released a new cd and I think they all would have no problem remembering the licks or lyrics to songs they wrote and im sure they would practice like any good band before playing a gig
STRANGE THREAD, but take the "dinosaur bands" like the EAGLES, U2, ROLLING STONES in fact the really great bands playing together since 25-40 years.
They have got so many hits, but when they perform, are they still able to perform that and that famous hit?
Like the Rolling Stones: "satisfaction", "ruby Tuesday", "paint it black"
1) do they still know the riffs, licks and lyrics?
2) OR do they need again a couple of days for rehearsal?
WHAT DO YOU THINK.

Re: What cable should I buy? (8 replies, posted in Recording)
Alden do you have a stereo receiver because if you do you can plug the mic and guitar into the mic input and use a Y chord from your 2 left and right "outs" right to your PC this is a common chord to find its used for mp3 players and sells for about 3 or 4 dollars and walmart or any store carries these, regarding your guitar pickups if you have some tuner spray around like QD or any comparable brand spray the pots and the terminals where the batteries connect and wipe them down and just hang in we will get you going some way
The electric is a friends, so I don't have an amp myself. I have an acoustic-electric, so the mic would be used for mandolin.
I am running into a problem now, according to Bestbuys website the store near me carries almost nothing; and I know the RadioShack near me has nothing at all. I will can run down-town between classes tomorrow to check.
and another thing. The pickup for my guitar has not been used in years, is there anything other than replace the batteries that needs to be done you think?

Re: What cable should I buy? (8 replies, posted in Recording)
Alden it occured to me if your amp has a line out you could plug a mic into your amp and use the cord from your line out and attatch the adapter to it and plug into your pc mic input, this way you could mic your acustic or add vocals and you could plug in your electric to your amp useing a stomp box or any effects and the line out signal would feed directly to the audacity program and I still recomend looking at the tutorials theres a lot of information provided that may help (sure couldn't hurt)
It may also be used for an electric every so often if that matters.

Re: What cable should I buy? (8 replies, posted in Recording)
I would stick with the one I pointed out because it can be adapted for both the mic and guitars,I have not seen a adapter that has a usb and I would imagine it requires a program like all usb sources and the other is more flexable and cost less but any way you can get the sound into your Audacity program is ok I dont know what the other usb costs but off hand I would guess more then the adapter I recomended so the choice is yours, let me know when you have it up and running or need any assistance
looking at them I have seen one that goes from the guitar to the USB is that worth it?
Will I need to get this adapter you speak of to use a mic?I am playing with audacity right now...recording on a digital camera. its fun ad sounds terrible.

Re: What cable should I buy? (8 replies, posted in Recording)
Alden if your acoustic is electric you can use an adapter it can be purchased at Radio shack or most electronic stores it is a 1/4 " female to a 1/8 " mono plug it cost less then $5.00 the guitar chord plugs into the female end and the small mono jack plugs into the back of your computers sound card (mic input) this holds true for the electric also just a plain old guitar chord is all you need you plug the guitar chord into the female adapter and that adapter plugs into your computer but you will need the audacity program it can be downloaded from sourceforge.net it is a free program and a free download, one more thing I would suggest downloading the tutorials on audacity from my mediafire link at the bottom of this post the folder is named "audacity" and download as many as you wish, there all free. if you have space on your PC i would download all of them they are short 5 or 6 min videos but they should get you on your way to recording your tracks and if you need any help give a holler here in the recording forum, and one other thing you can record your acoustic with a microphone if you have one the same way and once you have the Audacity program set up on your pc you will need to set some adjustments so you can hear what your recording and listen to what you recorded as you lay another track when you get this far just look at the tutorials they explain it and if you need further explaining this is the place ![]()
