Re: A FEW TO MANY (17 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Hi Russel,
Good storey, it could be a Dean Martin record [if he was still with us] I do hope it's a made up song rather than you writing from the bottom of a glass and the pit of despair?
Anyway another good one

Hi ExLB,
great first song, I wish my attempts could be so good.
Very modern and today, is it in a Suzanne Vega style James Blunt? Or maybe it's more electric/electronic? it doesn't appear to me to be rap, just trying to work out the style it should be played!
Welcome and looking forward to seeing more from you.

Re: Song (10 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Hi Helena,
How gifted you are to be able to write down such sentiments and memories with so much feeling and talent.
I must ask; do you begin your songs as poems, or do they come to you as songs? as with "Broken Bones Bootlegger", this could fall either side of the fence.
It's a lovely piece of writing.
All my sympathies for your loss

Re: "take a chance" (10 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Hi Daddy,
A doo-wap song!
When I read it I thought of those old 50's numbers "Why Do Fool's Fall In Love" etc.
I wrote one my-self I called "Shoobe-doo" some time ago, I dig it up and dust it off occasionally,
but I prefer "Take A Chance" I like the phrasing and the words tell a story, which I also like.
Keep rockin' man

Re: {t:BECAUSE I LOVE YOU} (8 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Thanks Helena,
My grandmother was a big influence in my life as was my mother who instilled in me the love of music and singing. Did you hear Maggie Coulter? I based the character on my gran, not the fact that Maggie was a "lady of the road" but her personality which was a very strong woman, as all the women who have meant anything in my life.
The Welsh word for grandmother is MAMGU pronounced "mamgee" I used to call her mungu "mungee" which led me to Maggie, the Coulter part I had to search for to get the right rhythm.
I digress...sorry `bout that.

Re: England a old/new song (7 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Hi Arkady,
Got to say it's a beautiful haunting melody, being Welsh I can admire the sentiment, and some of the nicest people I've ever met have been English, but I'm Welsh....so... I really love the fact that you've written a song for your dad, my dad died while I was learning the words to Elton Johns "My Song", it still makes me weepy, and that can be a bit awkward when your singing to a house full of paying customers, not for a woman, but it is for a man.
Lovely guitar work, and your voice suits this song down to the ground.
Keep on keeping on

I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and tolerance. it's an old recording of an older song.
Ode To The Cruel Heart, thats a very curious handle? It's nice to meet new members [new to me at least], hope to see some of your work soon, and hear from you again.
say chilled you all

Re: BIRDS FLY AWAY (8 replies, posted in Songwriting)
hi daddy
thanks for being kind.
no i don't have a backing group, no one will play with me! i would honestly love to be in a band...like the eagles...that would be great!!!
i play guitar, drums, bass and keyboards, all slightly [jack of all trades, master of none] and i have an 8 track korg digital studio. i also do a lot of basic tracks on my computer, transfer them and finish them off on the korg.
i love recording and it's probably my biggest hobby with playing live and teaching myself to play guitar and keyboards.
.thanks again
happy easter to you and your family and everyone else that looks and partakes in this forum.

Re: BIRDS FLY AWAY (8 replies, posted in Songwriting)
thanks roger and arkady,
no not professional, i have been semi-pro for about 30 years, doing pubs and clubs all over south wales [uk] in groups, duos and since the day elvis died solo. i dont include my own songs, i'd be too self-conscious, so i do lots of 60's some 70's and 80's and a couple of more recent tunes. oh and i do some country too.
i tried about 10 years ago to get EMI interested in my music but they said that my songs were not whats happening now [or then?]
anyway i gave up trying after that, but the song writing forum has rejuvenated my passion and i've written more songs in the last few weeks than i have for years, and this is one, it is the song that came along as any song does, and it gave me the idea of doing a project which would be a CD full of songs linked only by the fact that they all have something to do with a local park.
anyway enough of that ,
thanks again

A SONG FOR MY WIFE, IT'S ON MY SPACE, JUST CLICK THE WEBSITE LINK
{t:BECAUSE I LOVE YOU}...
{st:PHILL WILLIAMS}
BECAUSE I [a] LOVE YOU, I WILL [bm]GIVE UP THE LIFE I [a] LIVE
BECAUSE I [a] LOVE YOU, YOU SHALL [bm] HAVE ALL I'VE GOT TO [a] GIVE
AND IF IT'S bm7] NOT ENOUGH THAT I [a] CHANGE MY WAYS
THEN I'LL [em] MOVE THE SUN AND HAVE [f#m] LONGER DAYS
BECAUSE I [a] LOVE YOU...
BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, THE WINTER BECOMES THE SPRING
BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, THERE ARE KISSES WITH EVERYTHING
AND IF IT'S NOT ENOUGH THAT I TURN YOU ON
THAT I GIVE YOU LOVE AND YOU ARE THE ONE
BECAUSE I LOVE YOU...
BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, HEAVEN IS HERE ON EARTH
BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, I WON'T EVER LET YOU BE HURT
AND WHEN IT'S ALL SAID AND DONE AND THE FEELING IS GONE
WHEN THEY'VE GIVEN UP TRYING TO CHANGE US
BECAUSE I LOVE YOU...
{/song}
I noticed as I was doing this one that I started writing it in 1978, but I cant leave well enough alone, so every now and then I dig songs out and change a word, or a line or maybe a whole verse etc. This is not country I dont think...correct me if I'm wrong.
PS. I'M GIVING UP ON THIS CHORDPRO THINGY

Re: Thinkin Bout You (6 replies, posted in Songwriting)
hi badeye,
nice one, but you go from talking to "you" to talking about "her" if you understand me?
can i suggest you change "man without a brain" for " it wont happen again" i thought "without a brain" a bit too self derogatory.
anyway you asked for suggestions, just trying to help, hope it does.
all the best

Sorry you couldn't find it Helena, I just looked now and it's there, the other song, Birds Fly Away isn't though, it does say it might take 24 hours, you might want to try direct from my website link on Chordie, that's how I get straight to it.
Keep trying
