Re: List of 25 most infamous GTR riffs (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I think stairway to heaven by zep is the most abused for not playing it all the way and smoke on the water is about the same I cant remember going into a music store where some guy wasen't playing just the intro (and poorly at that) to impress anyone in earshot of his musicianship (or lack thereof) ive seen signs in music stores with "no stairway to heaven"with a red slash diagonally across it.you could add chuck berrys riff on "johnny b good"to the list also but most guitar players can the play 3 chords required for the song but few can play them with the feeling chuck berry put into them. a guitarist I remember seeing had a hit with a instrumental version of "memphis" Lonnie Mack that was his only one but he did a great job on the song ![]()

Re: Fretboard radius? (6 replies, posted in Electric)
Thank you jerome I learn something new every day
It is the measure of the arc of the fretboard. If you were to continue that arc and make a circle, it would be the radius of that circle.

Re: Gig advice...!!! (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
most sets run 45 to and hour depending on how many songs in your set list and if you take time to talk to the people the breaks are usually around 20 minutes or 15 if your in vegas or an hour if you visit a friends van
OK well I just got off the phone with the owner of the local music store. He called and asked me to perform at a barbecue next Friday! It's a paying gig scheduled from 5pm to 9pm or untill. I'll be performing solo or possibly with one other guitarist (a friend of mine). Music is no problem but what I need to know is how long are your sets usually and whats the duration of your breaks? This is my first paying gig and ,considering who it's for and the other musicians that are going to be attending, I really want it to be as professional as possible. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Don't know if I'm more excited or nervous...lol I've never performed in front of more than 20 people and he's got over 50 guests attending. One good thing though... It's open barr so if I can do decent for the first hour everyone will be two sheets in and not care about the rest...lol Peace!

Re: Finger picks (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
finger picks are nice as long as you dont have an itch on your nose or eyelid and forget you have them on there great for scratching your back or your significant others
i tried them but i feel more comfortable without them i use a pick when i play my dobro slide but like anything new it takes getting used to happy pickin
So, I play mostly fingerpick style. I don't care for having long fingernails. I don't care for dull sounding strings. So, there seemed to be a conflict for me. Today, I picked up some fingerpicks. Yow. It is going to take some getting used to, but I think it'll be worth the effort. I am going to have to be much more precise with my fingering, which will force me to pay attention to what I'm doing, which in the long run will likely make me a better player. In the short run, do I ever sound bad?

Re: Was this a good trade? (23 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I think id have to disagree you cant eat a guitar for supper and the landlord only wants his money for rent sad to say there have been several times in my life i had to make that choice any instrument is only a material object and can be replaced but the day to day demands of a material world need to be attended to tough choices sometimes present themselves when you are not prepaired to fend them off i can always get another guitar and even if its a cheap sub standard ax i will still make it sing like a nightingale because what i possess inside is not material its my soul
You did good.
I have a rule for myself. It is not acceptable to sell an instrument. Either give them away or trade them, but never sell them. You followed my rule and didn't even know it.

I have to agree with all the helpful advise every song has a cadence or tempo in the words an example is the nursery rhyme "mary had a little lamb whos fleece was white as snow" if you put a rhythem it is 1 & 2 & 3& 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 4 every song has a rhythem to the words this is a crude and basic example but I hope it helps somewhat and good luck keep writting take phils words to heart about his first song its kind of like my last song only better ![]()

Tony I didn't notice any hum the vg was amped thru a recording mixer and I didn't get the chance to really crank it like im used to so it really wasn't a true workout but im sure if you play one you will put it through its paces before you lay out some hard cashola good luck hope it works out for you
Russ,
the web sitre says: "...the virtual Stratocaster is free of 60-cycle single-coil hum."
With all the extra electronics how was the hum/noise level on the standard? I don't know I would want to shield one of those.what amp did you play thru? just curios, I'm stalking out a new one...

what can I say but soliari or james, i have to put down my ice cream and make a pbj treat long live goofy songs i have a few myself but this song would be a good song to sing to a captive audience at a club or open air setting just make sure you prime them with a wee bit of the dixie beer and they will love you and for effect you could throw some of the critters to the audience to chew on with there beer ![]()
