One fingering the A is out for me.  My finger just doesn't bend that way and never will.  I once made an adjustment to that knuckle with a 24oz framing hammer while driving some nails into concrete, and the adjustment hasn't worked out as well as I'd have liked.

2,3,4 and considering anything else makes my head hurt.  I'm already trying to relearn A.  Trying to relearn G is more than my meager resources of sanity can withstand.

Just picked my guitar up from the shop.  The total cost of repair was 26 cents.  I can handle repair bills like that.

If gray is a sign of wisdom, then my chin is pretty darn wise.  I was looking at those pictures thinking, "When did my friends get so old?"

The guys who were jamming are some of my fishing buddies.  I use the name "Big D" on that fishing site.  It was taken on Chordie when I registered here, so that's why I have a different name on this site.  I also use the handle "Halffastpaddler", explaining the Picasa site name.

We had a good time, but I will need to get my electric repaired.

The answers to the questions on the photo site are: Drool comes out both sides of the drummers mouth; and Homeless.

While I have dealt with service centers all around the world, I have to say that the worst service I ever received was from a service center in the U.S.  I went through five levels of management, and had every single level lie to me.  When I would catch each lie as it was spoken (they must hate someone who has researched the facts on what he expects to come as their lame excuses), I'd get passed to another level of management.  Given that each person I talked to was proven to be a liar, I have no idea whether they were really layers of management or just the person sitting next to them in the cube.

This came from an airline at a time in the U.S. when Congress was working on a bill to help out the ailing airlines.  I wrote my Senators and my Representative with a CC: to the airline president.  I provided dates, times, names, and the lies each one told me and how I knew they were lies.  The bill didn't pass.  I expect they got a lot of letters like mine.  The airlines weren't ailing because of a weak economy or higher fuel costs.  They were ailing because they treated their customers with disregard and disrespect.

I have never flown on that airline again.  They sent me a nice apology letter and $1,200 worth of "dollars" that could be spent only on their airline.  Too bad.  They lied to me too many times and have lost my business.  I can't say that I'd never sell out, but it sure will take more than $1,200 of airline dollars as a price.

My brother's dentist is (or was at some time) Dr. Payne.  I think would have kept looking through the yellow pages.

I went to an elementary school named after Harry Dickey.  We always thought that was funny.  Mr. Dickey was actually a very kind and generous man, and his wife even moreso, but the juvenile humor we found in his name has never left me.

Sorry I missed this.  I hope you had a great day.  Sounds like you had fun, and good for you for being able to remember it.

I was about to have a snort anyway, so I'll raise the glass in your honor tonight.  Maybe twice.

I haven't got any lyrics to add, but I am encouraged by the absolute wierdness of lyrics that have been recorded.  Perhaps I should dust off my pen and write some more songs.  My other two have gotten lonely and want some friends to play with.  I surely couldn't write anything as wierd as these lyrics.  Well, I could, but it would take quite a lot of chemical entertainment aids and I've given that all up.

p.s.  Mostly all up.  The kind served 'on the rocks' I haven't.

p.p.s.  In the states.  No good Scotsman would take it 'on the rocks.'

Clever idea.  I had meant to name our first child General and our second child Doctor, but my wife wasn't in favor of it.

Practice scales and arpeggios.  In the arpeggios, be especially certain to practice them on minor, sevenths, and minor seventh chords.  Once you have scales down very well, practice modal scales.

Not that I follow my own advice or anything, but if I were to want to play jazz guitar, that's how I'd go about starting.

Once you've got the practicing of scales well underway, go buy some Al Jarreau and George Benson albums.  Yeah, I know Al Jarreau is a singer, but he is amazing.  If you can play what Al Jarreau sings you're once heck of a jazz guitarist.

Yes it is a great story.  Here I thought duct tape and WD-40 fixed everything, but now I learn that Super-Glue is needed in case of surgery.  smile

Landshark isn't helping either.  I may have to go buy some Sam Adams or some Magic Hat.  If that doesn't work, I may be subjected to practice.

I think this was from Miles Davis.  It's a paraphrase anyway because I stink at remembering exact quotes.

First, we learn to play our instruments.  Intonation, moving between notes.  Then we learn to play music.  Scales, arpeggios, reading notes.  Finally, it's just play, baby, play.

Still one of my favorites to play - "Forever and Ever Amen" by Randy Travis.

My advice (which is notoriously suspect and frequently ignorant) is to strum what sounds "right" until your version is the one you hear in your head and the song you're trying to cover sounds a little bit off.

I just found out that Epi makes accoustic guitars. Is that true?

It is.  My sister has one she bought 30 or more years ago, and it sounds sweeeeet!  The tone and playability have seemed to improve with age.  When she needed money, I'd buy it from her for a while, then give it back to her when she was a little more flush.  It's a crazy way to lend a sister money, but we're a crazy family.  The point is, a time or two that guitar was mine and it is NICE.

So, yeah, Epiphone makes some real nice acoustics (or at least they used to be nice, I know nothing about whether they've changed things in the past 30 odd years).
