Re: El Paso (cover) Robbins (12 replies, posted in My local band and me)
Great version Richard ,but whenever I hear this song It always takes me back to the extremley rude version I used to bang out in the early 70s ,which cant be posted here or probably any where , but to give you a feel for it ,It started "Out in the west Texas town of El Paso there is a Sh** house with out any door " I'll leave the rest to your imagination.LOL..I didnt play it half as good as you do either .
Thanks - I put the start of that into a search engine, the first hit was the Marty Robbins video, the second was "Things to do in West Texas" ... make that what you will ![]()
Great cover Richard.
Thanks for that!

Richard
Sorry I missed this one - just happen to see it today !
That was excellent. It is a very difficult song to sing !
It is one of the true country classics.
Marty Robbins had the horses in the back before it was cool.Thank you so much for doing this cover.
That's no problems - I used to hear this played on the radio when I was a kid, I changed the key to suit me

Indeed it is!!
With the capo I don't know what key you're in but I do it in D and it presents a challenge. But that's the way I learned it and I'm too old and lazy to relearn it in another key.
Capo's on 3rd, and playing in 'C', so it's probably D# ....
Thanks to both of you for the feedback ![]()

Re: I will survive (cover) PERREN/FEKARIS (2 replies, posted in My local band and me)
Thanks - it's a Rode lavalier mic like this one:
I got the 'headset' part from a cheap $8 mic on eBay, and pulled that off and hot glued the Rode in it's place ... this goes directly into my iPhone and I use one a bluetooth camera switch to turn it on and off ... that, coupled with a stand for the phone, is about all I use.
The guitar and vocal all come through the one microphone, and it's sometimes hard to get the distance right to pick up the voice and guitar equally, but I've found a little bit of post-processing in Logic helps before mixing it all down in iMovie ...
With this song I did a bit of experimenting with the EQ and applied an 'auto wah' sound to the one sounds most associated with the guitar, and reverb to the ones most associated with my voice. So don't use a PA or amp throughout, and the computer is just used at the end of the process.
Thanks for listening!!
Cheers

Re: TUNING GUITAR FOR BLUES (2 replies, posted in Music theory)
Generally speaking, blues was built on "out slightly", if mine is out, I try using it with a slide and picking how I wouldn't normally pick - also try stomping your foot along as this helps the 'feel'. I hope that's the kind of blues you are aiming for ...
And welcome aboard!!

Re: Teddy Bear (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Thanks for the explanation Peatle, we've been at home for 2 weeks now, so I took the kids to the local park today (only saw about 10 people in the hour we were there, and we all kept well away from each other). After that we took a drive to the beach and back to give the car a bit of a run, and saw a lot of teddy bears on gates and in windows; I told the kids I'd seen something on Facebook about it (but I don't really _read_ FB, kinda just flick through), so I'm glad I can tell them what it means now ![]()
And thanks for posting the poem/song lyrics EB!!

Sorry for your loss, Joe, it was a good song that I could hear ...
In Perth, we are all instructed (as far as possible) to work from home, to limit exposure. Our company services a large supermarket chain (based in Sydney), and they're doing the same - unfortunately the digital networks and ISP's are slowing down as a result of everyone working from home. Store shelves are empty, un-imposed rations are being administered, every concert has been closed (after a lady went to the WASO concert in a contagious state). https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/public … 881483565z
Sporting events are to go ahead, but with no crowd in the stadiums, I'm guessing until one of the players is diagnosed with it, then they will probably shut down as well. Kids are still attending school, but every event and after school activity for the foreseeable future has been cancelled.
Strange times we're in ...

Like my sight reading.
I still might use it on stage tomorrow. The action is half as high as it was. I just can't use the first frets on E or A, which only matters in Bb. One song is in Bb, but I'll slide up to grab the Bb and Eb as the sixth fret rather than the first. Intonation at the 12th feet is ok even with the slightly high action.
If the action is still high, try lowering the tuning from EADG to DGCF and play everything two frets higher, or use a capo ...
