Thanks Graham. Actually I kind of played around with the second set of chords and finally settled on the E A B and E A D just lately. I'll get it up on soundcloud soon, but it it fairly easy to play sliding up from B to A. Only tricky part is going to the D from the Bb, but that is my favorite sounding part of the song really.

Druthers is a word I remember from my past that just makes me think about the mountains, different times, slower pace, and a simpler lifestyle...another reason I tried to keep the chords kind of bluesy and reflective if you know what I mean.

Verse

[B]Been [Bb]down this [A]road a few [E]times [E7]

[B]Probably [Bb]go [A]down couple thousand [E]more [E7]

[B]Still [Bb]ain’t [A]figured out or made my [E]mind up [E7]

[B]Up and [Bb]down un[D]til I can’t go no [A]more

[E]Surely [A]not the road to [B]riches

[E]Definitely [A]not the road to [B]fame

[E]Try not to [A]end up in the [B]ditches

[E]Just to get back [A]home 'til I go do it a[D]gain

[B]It’s [Bb]not a [A]life of [E]comfort [E7]

[B]Not [Bb]the [A]life I would've [E]chose [E7]

[B]Unsure [Bb]what I’d [A]do if’I had my [E]druthers [E7]

[B]Live off [Bb]in the [D]mountains I [A]suppose

[E]Live a mountain [A]life all full of [B]wonder

[E]If’I could find a [A]way to pay the [B]rent

[E]Wouldn’t waste my [A]days a[B]sunder

[E]Spend more time with [A]you heaven [D]sent

But [B]no [Bb]can’t go [A]back and start [E]over [E7]

And [B]I [Bb]can’t reach the [A]mountains no matter how hard I [E]try [E]

[B]Can’t [Bb]get my [A]wish from a four leaf [E]clover [E7]

[B]Have to [Bb]finish this [D]path on ‘till the [A]end…until the day I [E]die

Thanks Ark and JKR for the advice. I will check out your recommended adjustments. Would love to hear your take on the song as well if you want email me a scratch recording, or put it up some where I can listen to.

Thanks Graham & Dino. Yep Dino, I am worried. Worried I'll screw up my vocals and chord changes. smile I'm a reluctant performer even on my best days.

Thanks for the comments. Russ, I'll put it up on soundcloud soon, but I play it in a bit of a folk rock style.

The Thoughtful Commuter by Jeff Gilpin

7/25/2014

Verse 1

[Em]Stuck to my seat

As I’m [Em]driving down the street and

Onto the [D]on ramp that’s leading to the [A]highway.

[Em]Pass through all the rows

With all the [Em]stops and all the goes

Like so [D]many, it’s how I begin [A]my day.

[Em]Finding my place

Just a[Em]nother endless face

[D]Behind my eyes are thoughts no one could [A]guess.

About the [Em]future and the past

Just how [Em]long will our world last

A [D]few more thousand years or maybe [A]less.

Chorus 1

And [Bm]what about the people then?

I [Bm]wonder how the days begin.

I [A]doubt those days will begin like mine.

[Bm]Will our race evolve

[Bm]Or will our race dissolve

Until a[A]nother race begins another [G]time [Em] [D] [A]

Verse 2

A [Em]blinker on my right

And I [Em]wave to say alright

As [D]I make some room to let him [A]merge.

I’m [Em]thankful for the sign

[Em]Because far too many times

They just [D]cut me off without so much as a [A]word.

I [Em]used to care about

All those [Em]other cars about

Me as I [D]traveled from home to work to [A]home.

Now [Em]I just give them room

Even [Em]those who drive like loons

And [D]pay too much attention to their [A]phones.

Chorus 2

[Bm]For those folks I’m pretty sure

Will [Bm]sometime soon have to endure

The [A]consequences of their inattention.

[Bm]I just hope I’m out of town

[Bm]When the reaper comes around

Col[A]lecting both the bad and well in[G]tentioned. [Em] [D] [A] [Asus4] [Asus2] [A]

Hey Zen,

The song in chordpro can sometimes be temperamental. I looked at it, edited it by deleting the line and then putting it back in, and presto, it works. Some of the other features of chordpro can be a little touchy so just play around with it and hopefully it will work.

Bottom line: you had it right but sometimes you have to hold your mouth just right.  smile

What I was thinking about this song was that it was written as more of a rock ballad than the heaver stuff that is usually Beamer's kind of song. I think the melody is kind of haunting and the words tell a bittersweet story of so many garage band guitar heroes who have dreams of stardom that seems to always to elude them, but they're a star already to the one who loves them. Mostly Beamers' words and music. I only tweaked it a smidgen. Kind of reminds me a little of Russ' Reflections. Your work's definitely getting better Beamer.

Found this on the Guitar-List website. It has some specs (8) but not a whole lot else. If you have a picture I am sure the Guitar-List website would want to add a picture of your Yari to their summary info as well, since it doesn't appear they have one yet. Hope this helps: http://www.guitar-list.com/alvarez-yair … -12-string

Agree with both of you. He was one of the last true sports heroes. He always had a great attitude and man was he a hitting machine.

And to you Joe. Guitars and fathers go hand and hand. Hoping all Chordie Fathers get to spend some time with their children and their guitars, those other adopted 6 string children, today. smile

Hey Dino....Yep, I missed your post too. Been a lot going on in my life right now, but that's a poor excuse for missing your thank you. I'm retired Air Force, the son of an Army corp of engineers EOD'er (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), and the proud father of a corp of engineers bridge crewmember and Drill Sergeant...who just had my first "Gilpin" grandson 2 days ago.

Just heard a little but I enjoyed it. I'm very fond of piano music and how much more it can put out as compared to other instruments. Sounds like your friend really did it justice...I'll listen to the rest later (job interview coming up in about an hour).

There is a ton of free information out on the web that addresses this problem. I have a warmup cheat sheet I use for soreness in my fingers, hands and wrists that I have been using for years, and when I forget to do these exercises once or twice weekly, I end up paying the price with much more pain in my fingers, hands and wrists. Of course there are always the over the counter pain relievers that help as well, but sometimes there are side effects you may have to deal with that are specific to each type of drug. If your problem is more serious, so that exercises, stretches and over the counter drugs don't help you, then I recommend checking with your doctor. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

It's not on Chordie but it is over at ultimate-guitar. Link is below for one version and I believe there is another version there as well:

Russ, you know as I get a little older I seem to look deeper into the lyrics of songs. You are a master at writing something others can feel. You and some others on this site truly inspire me. This is another example of your wonderful craftmanship. Thanks so much for sharing with us!
