well thank you zurf smile Im sure im very flattered to be sung next to willie nelson.
Im no prodigy but what i write is real because i only write what ive lived, or in some cases i guess understood would be the right word. Its kind of funny to think somebody would be so amused with the midnight scrap papers (i dont think i have one song i wrote during the day... is that strange??) of a sixteen year old east texas hick, but im glad they meant something to somebody else.
James, my uncle was always notorious for re writing hymns (and singing them in choir lol), he's penned such classics as 'now let us have a little chocolate Jesus' (let us have a little talk with Jesus) and 'there's a gland beyond the liver' (there's a land beyond the river). He also does a slightly disturbing but hilarious version of 'he touched me'

i heard this new girl taylor swift do an in studio solo of tim mcgraw, nuthin but her and the guitar. I was actually pretty impressed that she could actually play and sang well without all the fixer ups.

well ive never owned an electric/acoustic, but i do have an epiphone with a real nice pick-up.... the sound is nice, but it does unfortunately lose some of the acoustic tone, but then of course it has become an amplified electric so thats natural. It gets a good twangy sound.
Im pretty sure the electric/acoustic would work better if you want an amplified instrument, but I like being able to switch back and forth. The attachable pickups are a more affordable alternative to the electric/acoustic really.

I am curious if they use those songs in the English speaking countries like Great Brittain & the USA.
Here in Europe, most of the people learn English, but a lot of them just listen to the melody, more than the lyrics.
So a list, HOPING YOU ADD MORE:
- Please Release Me  by Englebert Humperdinck
- Baby, I'm gonna leave you by Led Zeppelin
- I will Always Love You by Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston
- Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton
- Don't Forget To Remember Me by the Bee Gees
_________________________________________________________________________________

GITAARDOCPHIL sais HAVE FUN

engleburt humperdink wasn't the original singer of please release me.... im pretty sure it was jim reeves, either him or eddy arnold.
Engleburt humperdink was a country (well sort of) singer who never wrote anything for himself but (much like a wedding singer lol) made his living singing other people's songs..... not that im knocking it hey if you've got a good voice and cant write you know, just thought you might find that interesting. You learn something new everyday lol

I think you go through phases with learning.... or I did at least. Sometimes I don't really learn anything new for a while, but I do perfect what I've already learned. This is really progressing too, its just slower. Then sometimes I'll learn a bazillion new things at once and for a while I'll be soaking up knowledge like a sponge, then of course you have to stop and take time to perfect the new things, then it starts all over.
Anytime you're practicing you are progressing, it may not be as obvious to the ear, but your mind and fingers are becoming more and more accustomed to playing, its becoming more natural for you.
If you're practicing as much as you say you are, and you can keep it up, you'll look back one day a few years from now and see how far you've come and go 'dang'.... lol

Yeah so recently my cousin got me started listening to this guy, being a big Waylon fan it was kind of cool to hear his son.
Given the poppish sound country music seems to have taken on, it was kind of a breath of fresh air. He actually writes his own songs, and writes pretty descent too, so how come you never hear him on the radio???
I guess because hes on an independant label, which got me to thinking,
are there more independant artists there that the cmt wont tell me about that are actually pretty descent?? Anyway kind of gives this (rather young physically)  dinosaur at heart a little bit of hope that good country music wont die with the last of the legends.....

Ken, I agree that some churches can get entirely consumed with money and power and become purely self-serving entities - particulary when the church and state are one and the same.  However, not all religious organizations have (or want) secular sanction or authority.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of zealous fundamentalist radicals here in the US that are very serious about 'taking back America' (whatever that means).  There are overtly political organizations that are tax-exempt simply because they claim to be churches.  Personally, I think that the tax-exempt status of all religious groups should be eliminated and their properties and revenues should be taxed like any other business entity.

Hey I can understand your political views on this subject, but try starting a new church with all the expenses that entails AND pay taxes too. Personally I think the seperation of church and state (not opening that can of worms but in original principle) should mean that the government can't tax us for practicing our religious ceremonies.
My belief on this subject is that the more you allow the government to take care of, the less and less the individual controls about thier life. Should we have to pay the government for assembling to worship??
The church is NOT a business, in fact its funny that when the government is getting money from us thats the way they file it, but if we file for anything we can get in SERIOUS trouble for calling ourselves a small business.

Que?

I may need to renew my interest this particular Christian faith!

yep thats the truth.... well here in texas anyhow. Theres a pentecostal belt between south jasper and kirbyville.... its interesting to me how different denominations have different food specialties. Pentecostals and baptists in particular being famous in these parts for thier feeds lol
A baptist dinner on the grounds usually consists of a real nice ham and several unidentifiable casseroles, one pot of those tiny weenies, and a desert table crammed full of every imaginable pie cookie cake, cobbler etc.
Penetecosts tend to make a real good chicken and sausage gumbo.... and the peanut brittle of course. apparently to MAKE peanut brittle you have to have a certain cookin sheet and a large enough stove, and pentecostal church kitchens have them.

Bootlegger, let me first say that i totally agree with you're statements about the trinity (even though i prefer to call Him the Godhead; the word 'trinity' isn't in the Bible). "Behold Israel, the LORD thy God is one God.", but then he has three distinct forms. I also don't believe you need to speak tounges to get into heaven, but I do believe people still can (one of my major dissagreements with the baptist doctrine).
I was just stating what the majority of pentecosts (at least the ones I know) believe.
I am aware there are two kinds of pentecosts, Oneness and then the trinitarians.
Also the fact that you are 'ordaines' would mean to me that you're a genuine called minister, so dont give up on church. My father is a preacher and he always said that God respects faithfulness. Don't neglect your studies and/or sermon writing, and if possible find a place where you can comfortably attend church. The Lord will restore you if you are faithful to him. My father didn't preach for 10 years (he did lead music) after his divorce to my mother, even though it wasnt his fault, and then 3 years ago he was called to start a mission church. We've grown to a pretty average attendance of 40-50 people, are baptizing every month, and are happier in a church than we've ever been. What was probly the coolest was nearly half of our members were old friends we'd served with through the years, and hadnt seen in a long time.

(not a fake title I' am actually ordained)

Oh wow I guess I did.... dont know how that happened half my familys backslid pentecosts lol
They actually kind of fit in with the assembly of god, and holiness, the main difference being that the majority of pentecostals are not trinitarians (trinitarians means you believe that all three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, are God Himself).
As far as I know they dont believe in loss of salvation (or at least in losing it as easily as the assembly of gods and nazarenes holiness etc.) They do believe the manifestation of the spiritual gift of tongues is a neccesary proof of salvation, as is adhering to a strict standard of holiness. (women cant wear make up, cut thier hair, wear pants, men or women cant watch tv, listen to music, and so on and so forth). These days they're not AS strict as they used to be.....
An interesting fact about pentecostals: they hold the secret to the world's greatest peanut brittle.....

Anyway how was that lol? Oh and if you dont mind me asking, what kind of minister are you?

So Im looking to buy a new acoustic within not so distant (hopefully not so distant anyway lol) future, in fact i posted something on this a while back.... but anyway i went to the guitar center web page and saw a few that looked interesting and was just wondering what yalls thoughts were on some of them.

Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar
229.00
this one looks nice, but then im not sure epiphones are as high quality as they used to be???

Martin LXM Little Martin Acoustic Guitar
399.00

okay yes its a martin, but its kind of a plain finish no pick guard, but then again if it sounds great whatever

Yamaha F335 Acoustic Guitar
349.00
im really leaning towards this one, i know some ppl with yamahas that say they're good guitars, and its a little more for the money than the martin as far as accesories and finish and all that.....

Anyway anybody familiar with any of these??

ahem first of all let me say that infomercials can be quite entertaining.... if you've got the nerve to do a little prank calling lol Called the midnight special one time and asked em to list every song on the 100 greatest love songs CDs....
Anyway in esteban's defense the two playing styles are different and THATS why he grew his fingernails out. In the type of music esteban plays its extremely common to wear long nails, because you use your fingernails instead of a pick.

Im not personally a huge Nirvana fan, they've a couple of songs i like but im not sure i understand them lol 'I wish I could eat your cancer....' good song but kind of out there. Not too much for esteban but ive got to admit he can play.... so I would say this question is kind of pointless. You can;t compare two completely different things and get a good answer.

yeah most baptists dont even know that...
The term Ana-baptists was actually given to them by catholics, anglicans, etc. because they didn't do infant baptisms (anti-baptists). The baptists responded by saying no we DO believe in baptism just not at birth, so they took the anti off and kept the name.
The movement started in germany im pretty sure, i know a lot of baptists immigrants ended up coming to America from that area.

Well, here in the states we have a clear division between our government and our churches.  Our constitution is clear that our government may make no laws establishing any religion, or prohibiting the free exercise of religion.  Jefferson called this "a wall of separation between church and state."   What this has led to is a huge number of churches and faiths of all sorts springing up all over the country.   So as a nation, we have no church.  As a people, we do.  Primarily protestant varieties.  Baptists, Presbyterians,  Episcopalian, etc, along with a vast number of non-denominational churches.  I can go to Seattle and walk from a Mosque to a Jewish Temple to a Catholic Church.

There is a great African American gospel tradition in this country, mostly in the south.    This stems a lot from the blues and folk history that sprung during reconstruction after our civil war, and emancipation.   It's truly great stuff.  If I were God, that's where I'd go for my music.  big_smile

just thought I would clarify on something. A protestant is a group which came OUT of the catholic church and seperated itself from them. Baptists came from the Ana-baptist movement which was completely seperate and never associated with the catholic faith.... as were the methodists if im not mistaken.
There are quite a few non catholic churches in America, but not all are prtoestant.
Im kind of a church history buff lol smile

American denominational churches come in all shapes sizes and extremeties lol, but there are a few main belief systems....

Baptists, (which come in so many sub categories its impossible to name them all) can be anything from wild snake handling holy rollers to almost letergical traditionalists but all believe basically in salvation is by faith, and in baptism by submersion (but not neccesary FOR salvation)...

Nazarenes, holiness, assembly of Gods, pentecostals etc.  believe in baptism by submersion that isnt neccesary for salvation, but also believe that salvation must be maintained either by manifestation of spiritual gifts or standards of holiness...

Church of Christ believe that baptism in itself saves you, but services lean more towards a typical sermon and hymn singing like baptist pentecostals, etc.

Letergical churches, which is basically presbytyrians, (these days methodists but not originally) and similar congregations, are just what the name says: letergical. I think you probly are familiar with the whole clergy and recitations and all that. Most of those baptise by sprinkling, if im not mistaken most of them at birth....

Then of course there are mormons and jehovah's witness which are a whole 'nother ball game that I could get off on but i wont....

Non denominational churches could be just about anyhting, but a good number of them are carismatic which is kind of like baptists only wilder and they speak in tounges and prophesy and all that.....

anyway i could talk more but i wont..... you learn alot when ur a preachers kid lol

Good taste in music really doesn't have anything to do with gender, but sadly it is true that alot of girls listen to crap... I think alot of us are kind of scared to step out and say we like some music cuz girls tend to be more clickish...
