I know we tend to be humble about our own playing and singing, but what is good about this forum and this project is that at a big part of it is encouragement. Do a song badly, let others laugh along, you may get some constructive criticism to improve your performance, and everyone learns and gets encouraged in a safe space. How often do you get that?  Hardly ever.

I am going to have to pass on this month songs didn't have the time to learn them.

Come on, I did Friends in Low Places totally raw...

Heck of a project.  As much as I enjoy wood working, that's a project I've never been tempted to undertake.  I was surprised about the plastic too.  I wonder if it's the compensating B that makes it so much better.

That looks about right. Interesting how some of these things led to others, but are still around.

If there's anything I like as well as Sissified 70's Pop/Rock, it's 70's Soul.  Bill Withers in particular.  "If it feels this good being used, then Baby use me up."  LOL! Direct and to the point.

Those are surprising prices.

I haven't been playing much. Things have been very busy here. We tried to schedule a weekend to do some college visits and learned that our calendar is more or less booked through November from the perspective of family get-aways.

Hi T F. Sorry to pile my troubles on everyone but I been missing due to my partner developing a serious disease and eventually passing away. In fact for a few months I haven't even picked up a guitar. Anyway that's all behind me now and I hope to be back to normal a,s,a,p.

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks. I took a hike while the kids slept, then went for a country drive and lunch with my wife while the kids slept.

I think you taught it what it needed to learn.

Ugh Chordie.  Lost my voice to a bug last week and it's just coming back.  Hope to record these tonight.

Freakin' bugs and their magic voice-stealing clamshells.

I don't know Chris Cornell's body of work. I checked out a few songs, and while I recognize the talent I have to admit it's not my style. I'd have a very hard time learning to perform any of the songs I listened to, even were I to massively Zurfelize them.

I have bad dreams sometimes that I come out from behind the drums to play bass on "Stand By Me", and the lead guitar says "Stand By Me in C".

Huh? Did he just say "in C"? But I'm just a drummer and only know it in A Major!!!"

Besides learning the Pentatonic scale, is there another way to  fool-proofly figure out the key to a song and  then transfer it to the fretboard?

Everything I do on bass is pattern based, and I rarely ever play open notes.  This allows me to transpose immediately and easily.  If you know a song in A and you need to play it in G, with patterns you'd just play exactly the same things you always do except two frets closer to the headstock. If you need it in D, just slide over a string.

As for guitar, yeah. I write in the additional chords, usually in colored ink.  I'm no good at remembering chords and patterns unless I practice, practice, practice and learn, learn, learn.  Even then I still forget sometimes.  Lyrics and chords at the same time is a big cognitive challenge.  When Southpaw adds in harmonica and tambourine with his foot, he does it with seeming ease but it's awful impressive to me.

Looks like I'm too late.  My wife bought a Harbinger system for my birthday a couple years ago. I like it. I don't use effects, but am thinking a chorus pedal for voice would be cool after Topdown and I saw a guy at a winery here in Virginia make excellent use of one.

Country Road (JT)
Tin Cup Chalice (Jimmy Buffett)
Trouble (Cat Stevens)
Age (Jim Croce)
Live Forever (Billy Joe Shaver)
Southern Cross (Stephen Stills)

I forget the lyrics to all of them, but I can pretty much rip into any of these whenever someone says, "Say Zurf, why don't you play a song?"

The crafts aren't nearly as unstable as Dirty Ed.

Have a great time, DE, and say "Howdy" do All for me.

Does it need to be a Chris Cornell original, or  can it be a cover he did in the same style he performed it?

Edit
Here's why I ask:

Do it. No need to ask permission.

Bill, Dondra. I am so sorry. You must be devastated. My thoughts are with you. I'm sorry I've been missing for a month or two. The reason. I also lost someone close to me. Sue my partner and soulmate of 43 years passed away 25/5/17 after fighting brain cancer for almost a year. Bill, Dondra I share your pain.

Daggonit keepitreal, that just stinks. I'm sorry to hear it.

I'm going to try real hard to make it to yours in October Uncle Joe. I enjoyed myself a great deal with the last one, but I'll bring a tent and a ground cloth this time.

There are switch-boxes, but having never used one for video signals to a TV can't comment on whether or not they are effective.

Oh dear Lord!  That is terrible Bill.  I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

I have a Sony bluray that does streaming and it's not so great.  I have a Roku on my downstairs TV and it's terrific.

The requirements to have both a Roku and a Bluray on your TV are having two HDMI ports.  You'd plug one into one of the ports, and the other device into the other port.  Your remote should have a way to switch between the port it's using for putting an image on the screen.

I'm still working on Santa Monica, and I'm still working on Jack and Diane from April.  I'm a slow learner, and these two songs require techniques and chord voicings that are new to me.

Janis Joplin did a good version of Bobby McGee, but didn't we do that one already?  It's also a male song, written by Kris Kristofferson and performed by Willie, Johnny, and others.
