Andres Segovia is considered the Grandfather of classical music. Most serious classical guitar player know who and what he did. You can watch some of him on tube. Here is a couple of links : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9efHwnFAkuA
and : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZEUjDoji3Y
He also showed how good you can be with short fat fingers.

I may be the only one to think of this however rather than tapping on a good guitar and ruining the finish and guitar, why don't they hire a drummer? I always thought the best guitarist could play any song and all you hear are clear notes. No sliding or string noise should be heard.

Some of the students I taught started calling me CG and that was short for Classical Guitar. It has nothing to do with my real name, so when I registered I used Classical Guitar, because CG just seemed to short.

I really enjoyed Powder Blues. I also listen to some others of the same band. They sounded more polished than some of the other blues bands.
When you have tune listen to Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. He is the same drummer as Fleetwood Mac. Here is just one link although there are several more links: https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/v … tion=click

Re: Making First Classical Guitar (19 replies, posted in Acoustic)
One final update. After changing back to bone the one I built was built right. The real problem is the knowing what blank wood has the right tonal quality to start with from the beginning. The same would be true for any classical or acoustic guitar. So I wasted a lot of time except I have a good setup and if I try it again I will buy my blanks from someone who knows what good wood should sound like.

Re: Right Leg Or Left Leg When Playing (19 replies, posted in Acoustic)
beamer being self taught is most likely more normal than getting instruction. Most play a Em with two fingers and I still play it with one finger so I can reach some other chords more quickly. When I play from normal sheet music I play more traditional for true classical music. I still enjoy playing 60's and 70's music for my own enjoyment.

Re: Right Leg Or Left Leg When Playing (19 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I use a soft top both stool when I practice at home and when I do a concert and both allow my feat to stay flat. Years ago I went to a concert by a great player and he used a left leg lift and after he played for an hour and stood up his left leg was numb and he feel when he tried to stand. So I have never used a leg lift although I did try one for an hour and I found it very uncomfortable.
Some use a chair to play in concerts and the back of a chair is a good way to bang up a good guitar.

Tenement Funster good picture with your Cordoba D10-CE and you hold it in a good position to play. I just bought a Cordoba C10 classical and so far really like it. I did change the strings to D'Addario EJ45 Pro-Arte normal tension.

Topic: Right Leg Or Left Leg When Playing (19 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Classical guitar players use their left leg when playing because it keeps their left hand at a more comfortable angle for picking. Steel string players usually use their right leg. I have heard some great steel players who finger pick and play on their right leg.
I play on my left leg however I keep my leg flat and do not use a leg lift because I find them uncomfortable.
Is it the neck length on a steel string or is it the way you have always played? Do any of you who finger pick play use their left leg? How do you play?

Bill and Doug_Smith my first classical guitar cost the least of any Yamaha at the time and I played mostly folk music on it. I was self–taught and was using my thumb and two fingers. I and two others practiced singing and played at local restaurants on week ends. After that I got serious and took serious lessons from very good teacher that lived an hour from where I lived. I worked hard and learned the "right way" to play. I was told then I had a very good ear and within a few months I was playing Moonlight Sonata and some others. At my first recital my teacher told me he could not teach me more and another teacher heard my recital and offered to teach me and I took lessons from him for another year. I went to college for 6 years and still played and practiced. I worked my up in a local industry to senior vp and on weekends I stated to do some concerts.I was lucky enough to retire early and took my playing and doing concerts to another level and also started teaching others too. Although both teachers wanted me to look at my fingers when I played I never did and and I teach my students to play and I still teach them correctly and not to look at their guitar either. If you feel what you play and all classical guitars are the same size you don't have to watch yourself to play.

Russell_Harding I agree with you. With my normal 6 guitars that are the top of the line in Yamaha Classical I just received the Cordoba C10 and love the sound, not better than the Yamaha just different.. I also bought 6 Yamaha 40 to stock for new students as starter guitars.I always bought them at a great price and I charge my students what I paid. I fairly recently started using one of them and practice on it for several weeks. It is one of the cheapest and most mass produced Yamaha ever made. It has low action and sounds good. It is a full size classical and all sides are laminated and when I play it, it still sounds good.
Just to mention it the Cordoba C10 and all Cordoba classical has truss rods and is the only classical I have played that has truss rods. I always felt and still do that if they are built properly truss rods are not needed. ( I know that steel string guitars need truss rods because of stings pressure.)

unclejoesband it does still looks good. I remember that type of case. It was the only one available for many years. Your photo is good. I bought a new camera to take of photo of the one I made and with the flash it still looks completely washed out. No matter how I have tried to do a photo all I can get is a washout and it does not look like the guitar I built. I thought is was sounding batter however it still does not sound like what I wanted. I will pick a better day and try to get it more in direct sun light and not use the flash and see if it looks better than it sounds.

beamer that is a good way to move up. It was not my first classical guitar but one I had for 45 years and was still in great condition. I ended up giving it to my grandson when I started teaching him to play. He has one more year now in high school and he can play any piece I want him to play. He was a natural and worked hard. I knew for some reason I kept this one and am happy he likes so much. Even after keeping it 45 years it still has the original frets. I have never had to replace a single one yet.
Tenement Funster I liked the happy look on your face while playing guitar in your early picture.

Thank each of you who responded. Roger Guppy you have to be the first to show your first guitar from Christmas 1958 and a good photo too. TF Cordoba makes some great classical guitars so I am guessing at the price you mentioned it is a great guitar. I played a Cordoba C10 and really liked it and will place an order for one this week. The one played had amazing sound.
