Thanks both. Peatle just comes up with some super words which makes it easy for me to put them in order and fit a tune. He then seems to conjure images from thin air. Happy Valentines to all you young lovers out there, and the not so young...lol

Annoying little twits then? Ha ha. I grew up in a farming district and my mother loved nature and tried to instill in me the value of the natural world, she also loved to sing. She probably never realised the lasting effect it had on me, neither did I. I love the small birds but detest the bigger bullies like gulls! Tui birds in the UK are planes as Tui is a travel company...go figure?

Oh Pete, you are a diamond!!! Everyday thoughts we all have put down in order and succinctly normal. that last line is a killer and so true. Ann was cooking the dinner and a song came waddling along, well actually it was a chord, Jims Biggie Cadd9, what does it lead to...F?...no. G? YEP, then from nowhere came a song. Up until then I'd had zip for 2 weeks. Just as I was getting into it, my "she who must be obeyed" called out "come and do the mash". And now reading your missive I see you've been in the same doldrums? The only birds we seem to get lately are those rats with wings...AKA sea gulls.
Just read through again and you style is so reminiscent of Spike Milligan and that's a great compliment from me

glad to hear from you  Grah, i was beginning to worry that BOJO had sent a hit squad to stop the true words you've put on youtube!

your words here are quite a departure from your usual fare, very floral and romantic in style. i don't have time to listen now but i shall return looking forward to the finished version

Pete. I've written songs that don't make sense to me until I listen to them months later. I don't post 99% of my songs as they wont mean anything to 99% of the people, but I get your poems and ramblings ( and I mean that in the best possible way) I can identify with them. Keep on keeping on my friend.

Pete. I prefer to have a song down on paper  before recording. I begin with an idea which usually means a line or two or a chord sequence, which I then add to for sometimes up to a week before the song is finished. sometimes it's done in a day. I wrote 6 songs this year so far. I usually find that once I nearly finish one song another pops into my head. I'm rarely totally empty headed as far as music is concerned. Yesterday I hit a chord sequence but I couldn't find any words to go with them. It turned into an instrumental which I recorded last night, it's not brilliant but it's OK. I used to be able to make up words while jamming with my band (years ago) I've lost the knack now. But I do like the way you kiwi's can sing, speak or write your thoughts and make sense.

Hi Brian. As you mentioned in one of our chats, you tend to just write or sing on the fly as they say? I think Pete also does that. So I thought I'd give it a try, just write down the first things that came into my mind. I like to get up early so I can have peace to check my email and Chordie then watch a bit of TV. What an exciting life I have....?

She lays in bed
Sheets below her chin
I place the cup upon the table
She smells the brew and her eyes flicker open
Mmmm, she smiles... lovely
The wind and rain has given the sun a chance to warm the land
Shall we go walking I ask
Sun is out, washing day
Oh well back to my arm chair and the TV

Oh yea! Friends with benefits eh? An other relationship piece? I love the way you and Peatle can take everyday events and make them into enjoyable stories.
Well done Brian.

I love it Pete. You come up with some quirky stuff that everyone can identify to. I hate the plastic Pam's my self, if it ain't natural it ain't real!

It's a heartbreaking story, no one should die alone. As usual you've made a tale readable in a completely sensitive way. This is a poem we can all relate to. Remember the good times, the conversations and the personal exchanges between you both.

Puts me in mind of Strummer boy bill, anyone heard from him at all?

You certainly know how to make a point. Almost spoken in a very tuneful way. It's hard to believe people can treat people in this way, and it still goes on....great song and observations.

you got a new job as tourist promoter for Prince Edward Island Jim?
It's a cracking song which wouldn't go amiss on a tourist brochure or a poem. You might want to revise your 3rd verse a little, it doesn't  flow as good as the other verses and chorus, that's my only criticism and it's not a biggie.

try;
So far away Prince Edward Island.
I wonder if she remembers me?
Like yesterdays rain that's gone
Am I just another faded memory.

just a suggestion.

I don't normally write limericks but when the muse hits that spot.....

There was a young lady from Texas.
Whose stomach was all solar plexus
Her biceps so large.
They would fill up a barge.
And her attitude simply just wrecks us.

So who said there's no rhyme for Texas?

hi Robert. win10 automatically downloads updates. make sure  your settings allow auto updates. if you still have no sound then you may need a sound card. i have an external sound card because i do recordings on my PC. if that is your aim then i recommend Steinberg UR22 mk 2, not overly expensive and you get a rather classy DAW free. obviously you can buy an internal sound card but you will need to be careful how you install it.
let us know how you get on.

nice one Pete, made i laff. I thought my verse was risque...lol

my sea legs hadn't quite acclimatized
and the saddle was chaffing my thighs
i watched as she bounced in her saddle
all i could see were her gorgeous big eyes.

who's next?

Goodnight Jim Bob!

Pete how about this for your opening line...

She rode my horse like her butt was on fire..
Her tight blue jeans up to her waist.
Her chequered shirt tied 2 inches higher.
And I had to ride hard to keep up.

I can imagine it sung to a kind of ghost riders beat. Over to you

Ok Robert, welcome to Chordie. Without knowing what computer you have or operating system, it will be pointless giving you advise. If you have win 10 or above you should receive updates regularly. Windows have stopped updates for Vista and earlier. BTW programs are software so the driver should be downloadable. If you don't have a sound card built in your computer, you may find buying one fairly expensive especially if you can't fit it yourself. Go to your computer manufacturers web site and check for updates for your driver's. You will find websites that will check your PC for out of date driver's or you can purchase a program that will keep you up to date. I must warn you these may contain unwanted and often Hidden spy programs and you may get a lot of spam or worse. Good luck hope this helped

I can imagine the joy of them all only to be torn apart by a cowardly and vengeful act. They must have been devastated. My condolences.

Hey Jim that song rocks even though it's a country, cowboy, barroom thing. Texas is getting a lot of attention lately. Let's hear it...

OMG I know the civil war was brutal, but here you've brought a personal account of a tragic event. I have damp cheeks after reading and listening to your song a fitting tribute to your forefather. One word.... brilliant.

It's strange how inspiration works, but you certainly came up trump's with this one. What a great song, it has all the elements of a big country hit.

it took me 20 minutes to find your song but you got my vote too. good luck
