Pa. win's their first game 18-0.

From what I've seen so far, I'm thinking it's going to be Pa. and Ca. for the U.S championship next Saturday.

I finally got around to uploading pics. The quality is rather pathetic compared to Roger's but I just have a point-n-shoot.

Upon arrival.

Anyone follow Little League Baseball? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_League_Baseball

I grew up in the town where it all started in 1939 so I've always followed it. As kids we used to walk about 3 miles to the stadium because it was faster than driving. The town population swells from 30,000 to around 80,000 during Little League week. If you don't have a hotel room booked a year in advance, you probably won't get one. Most of my family is still in the area so I don't need to worry about where to stay. smile

This year there is a local team (Red Land) that ran through the gauntlet of playoffs to be one of the final 16; 8 from the U.S. and 8 international. I'll be watching this one closely and will be fighting the horrible traffic nightmare to watch the "Red Land" games at the stadium.

Here is the schedule and the teams that will be competing this year. http://www.llbws.org/gameinfo/schedule.htm

Oh, man! I had him pictured as an older guy, with a don't mess with me look on his face. He looks pretty good, actually - in a Shel Silverstein kinda way.

I'm getting up there. Had Amy wondering too but she was too polite to come right out and ask. smile Something came up in a conversation and I mentioned; "That's the same year I was born".  Working towards 60 but not there yet.

And I never heard of Shel Silverstein so I had to look it up. AuntJoe says; yeah there is somewhat of a resemblance.

And that's the weekend I'm hosting the fall foliage get together in Pa with 8 confirmations so far.

And Mr. unclejoesband?

As delicious as those cookies looked, I'd still rather take my chances with the bowling ball.

LOL!!!!

Bill

Well you didn't miss much. It was my first attempt at making them. I took a couple shortcuts and quite honestly, I thought they were pretty bad. So the bowling ball is probably a better choice. smile  Mekidskids seemed to love them though so I left them all there instead of bringing them home to give to the chickens.

So............. a BIG THANK YOU has to go out to Jim and Amy for pulling some cyber-friends together for a wonderful time. They were terrific hosts and did everything they could to help make the new guy on the board feel right at home. I'm looking forward to returning the hospitality in October when they come to visit.

Dirty Ed has a bottomless pit of a repertoire and and I took full advantage of it by quietly practicing some of my scales. Sometimes I hit it right  and sometimes.... not so much. But it was fun just the same.

Roger was absolutely delightful to converse with and he also has an endless repertoire with a voice to make it a pleasure listening to. I only wish that I could sing as well.

And I can't leave out Amy's dad. He kept going and going just like the Energizer bunny. How do you folks keep all those songs in your head?

Steph, the budding guitarist, reminded me of my initial foray into the world of guitar playing. If she sticks with it she will be superb in no time.  Amy, tell Kate thank you for the flower. I meant to take it with me but forgot.

I'll look forward to doing this again next summer. But before that I would like to invite you all to visit the mountains of Central Pa. in the fall. That includes you Roger. Although having already made two trips to the States this year, You may have had your fill of us Yanks and our abuse of your language. smile

It was a pleasure meeting you all and thank you again for having me. I look to getting together again.

I'll be heading out in about an hour. I'll see you folks around noon. smile

At this point I have 8 confirmed, 2 probable and 2 maybe. 4 are out of town and 4 are local from the confirmed category. There will be a few other locals coming just to socialize as well.

I figured I would bring that thread back to the top after this weekend in NY.

Please also read the disclaimer that Chordie itself has nothing to do with the chords/lyrics. We are simply a "repository". Right, Roger?

That would be affirmative.

Thought I would help Roger out. He's probably still sleeping in his pink room that he doesn't know is pink. smile

It is already posted when you see your mistakes, then you choose edit and make the changes. While you're doing that, can people read the original which has already been posted?

Sorry if I'm missing something. "If I only had a brain!" ---- The Tin Man?

Yes. The original is still there for folks to read. Once you post the edited version, the original is gone.

But, now I'm even more curious... what kind of job did you do for this guy?  Beautiful guitar!  Congrats again!

I take care of the outside of his property; trees, shrubbery, etc. It used to be an all day job for 2-3 people. Over the years I've made some changes that have cut down on yearly maintenance dramatically. I can now clean up the place myself in half a day. It cut into my income a bit but he has been just tickled with the changes I've made. He quit asking me for a cost estimate about 10 years ago. If I don't hear from him by the second week of July, I'll call him to let him know what day I'll be there.

This was a little unexpected and I'm feeling a bit like jjj. smile

Last Friday I did a job for a regular client. I've been doing it every year for 18 years near the end of July. This time he was at the end of the day and we got talking.

He had bought a guitar for his grandson back in '08. He play with it a little for the first year and put it away. He joined the Air Force in '12 and told "Pappy", my client, to do whatever he wanted with it because he lost interest. Pappy didn't even know what make it was so I asked if I could have a look at it. Pertinent little tid-bit here; Pappy worked in the financial services field for Merrill-Lynch and money is no object for anything he wants.

So he pulls this guitar out of the closet and the first thing I notice is the Martin logo on the case. I'm now grinning from ear to ear; in my mind. I open it up and there lays a lovely Dreadnaught; with a cutaway! There wasn't a mark on it but the action was pretty high. So of course I asked him what he might like to have for it.

"Make me an offer" he says.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

"Would you trade it for today's work?"  (3.5 hours of my time)

"That seems fair" he says.

So instead of him writing me a check I put 2007 Martin DC 1E in my truck. big_smile

On my way home I stopped in to see my favorite guitar tech and asked him to lower the action and put new strings on it. He called me today to tell me it was ready. Turns out, for some reason, somebody had put a shim under the saddle. This thing plays like a dream now.

I'm a happy camper!

Like others, I have them in various places. I keep 10-12 in the car and another 8-10 here on the computer desk. The bulk of them (100 or so) are at my little hideaway in the mountains. They are on a rack and organized by genre with each genre alphabetized.

rickyjack,

I have thought about craigslist, but it has this reputation as such an unsavory place, you know? Maybe I will.l

I found my 2 playing partners on craigslist. It took about 3 months. I put the ad in and refreshed it every couple weeks. After about 10 weeks of nothing I got a reply. After a couple phone conversations I had Peter over. A couple days later I got another reply. Peter and I had another session set up for a few days later so I invited Scott to join us. We started getting together every other weekend.

Ya never know until you try. smile

I had to strip the file of excess data generally used for printing purposes.  I'm not sure how to do that other than with photo editing software.  I'm guessing some of those websites that will do it for ya will strip the files of that info..

Yeah, that's beyond my computer skills.

Thank You. smile
