Hey Roger - Thanks for the feedback. I have a portable recorder now so I can send you a scratch.

I do more than that, but I can't compete with my wife. She did not like the song, but she admits it is spot on.

Thanks MC and Pete-

Pete, it was meant to be more tongue in cheek than sad, but I get your point. I normally keep my comments directed to the idiot box to myself but on occasion I let them out as well.

So what I hear is that song is mostly in D. The chords are finger picked also but in the third line in the verse goes to A then back to D just before the start of the fourth line of the verse. Check it out and see if that works for you. Here is the youtube of the song from the movie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77lc1yxBtFE

Good ol' timey music.  smile

Just a little folky story song. I play it with a capo on the 4th fret but feel free to do it your own way.

Before the Witch Hunt By Jeff Gilpin

April 7, 2013

There [G]once was a time a [Em]happier [G]kind

When people were [D]able to [Em]live

In relative peace be[G]fore the release

Of the witches and their [D]cauldron of [G]give

The [G]witches you see had [Em]more than plen[G]ty

But seemed to be [D]worried about [Em]others

To ensure everyone would have [G]their kind of fun

They’d im[G]pose on all the [D]sisters and [G]brothers

So the [Em]witches concocted their [G]spell

And [D]boiled and bubbled for a [Em]spell

Until the potion was brewed and [G]trouble ensued

From the witches and the [D]potion they [G]brewed

[G]First it would be that the [Em]technology [G]

Was improved at a [D]staggering [Em]pace

And the people observed that the [G]slope of the curve

Was a typhoon with [D]them at the [G]base

So the people reacted and [Em]somehow en[G]acted

Laws to help [D]everyone [Em]grow

Along with the change their [G]lives rearranged

To keep up with the [D]pace of the [G]slow

And the [Em]witches oh how they [G]cackled

Once the [D]people were finally un[Em]shackled

They quickly began to be [G]shackled again

Without raising the [D]hair of their [G]hackles

So the witches confirmed that their [Em]plans had been [G]spurned

And figured out an [D]alternate [Em]way

Said one what the heck how [G]bout bio tech

Soon genetics had [D]entered the [G]fray

The witches observed as they [Em]changes oc[G]curred

With a subtle ob[D]servance by [Em]most

But soon there were changes and some [G]food chain deranges

That led some to [D]give up their [G]ghost

And the [Em]witches shook their [G]heads

At the [D]number of people turned [Em]dead

For those ones left living they’d [G]be no forgiving

A witch hunt for the [D]witches to [G]dread [D] [G]

She Talks to the TV By Jeff Gilpin

March 24, 2013

[A]While I’m in the other room

I hear a conversation [E]going

A [E7]little time will pass

And there is no sign of [A]slowing

So I go on in there to [D]see [E]

She’s talking to the [A]TV [E]

[A]It’s not as bad as you may think

She knows it doesn’t talk [E]back

[E7]And I’m here if she feels

That it’s conversation she [A]lacks

But I figure it’s best to let her [D]be [E]

When she talks to the [A]TV [E]

Chorus

[F]She might disagree with a [C]comment being made

[F]Or she might not like the way the plot is [C]flowing

[F]She might sympathize even [C]though she realizes

It’s [E]not her inside voice and her [E7]feelings are over flowing

[A]I remember way back when

I heard it for the [E]first time

[E7]She spoke words quite clearly

And a question came to [A]my mind

Was she just talking to [D]me [E]

Or talking to the [A]TV [E]

[A]But by what she said though

I had my confir[E]mation

I [E7]said you know they can’t hear you

And that brought on irri[A]tation

From then on I just let her [D]be [E]

When she talks to the [A]TV [E]

Chorus

[F]She might disagree with a [C]comment being made

[F]Or she might not like the way the plot is [C]flowing

[F]She might sympathize even [C]though she realizes

It’s [E]not her inside voice and her [E7]feelings are over flowing

[A]Well it hasn’t gotten any worse

And it hasn’t gotten [E]better

I’ve [E7]kind of learned to live with it

When she does it I just [A]let her

Besides it’s not hurting [D]me [E]

When she talks to the [A]TV [E]

[A]I worry from time to time

When I’m lying in the [E]sack

[E7]Not sure what I’d do if

She hears it talking [A]back

That’s a sight I hope I never [D]see [E]

When she talks to the [A]TV

Hey Jerome,

Nice blues tune. I adjusted the chorus (soc & eoc) so they would line them up correctly.

Zurf, your write-up made me feel like I was there for the festivities with you all. There is such a great atmosphere when chordie folk get together and this sure sounds like a wonderful time was had by all. Sorry more of us couldn't make it (including myself). I am sure those who were not able to attend are all envious of those who did.

Thanks Ken - I might be able to hook up and play it for you on Skype if your like. Betting Zurf will hear it first when he gets back from the beach if we get to tag up.

I Hope You Laugh By Jeff Gilpin

February 19, 2013

Verses go like this - DAGA repeated throughout the song ending on the last line of each verse with DAD as shown in the 1st verse.

Verse 1

When I’m [D]gone [A] [G]

[A]I hope you [D]laugh [A] [G]

[A] How you [D]laugh well [A] [G]

That’ll [A]be up to [D]you [A] [G]

[A]You may laugh [D]at me [A] [G]

Or [A]you may laugh [D]with me [A] [G]

Or [A]you might laugh [D]at

[A]What I [G]never [A]got to [D]do [A] [D]

Choruses are like this:

GAD

GAEm

GADG

AGA

Chorus 1

[G]But I [A]meant to [D]some day

[G]Other stuff[A]got in the [Em]way

[G]Guess I might not [A]get to it in the [D]end [G]

[A]Worth a little laughter at the [G]plans of [A]men

Verse 2

If I go before

I hope you can laugh

At the funny ways

A life can be lived

Start in one direction

And get all turned around

But I hope I end up

With whatever life had to give

Chorus 2

Maybe something to believe in

Or maybe the mischevians

Will make my life a lesson for others

Cautionary tales passed on by their mothers

Verse 3

The world could use

More laughter

And if leaving helps

I guess I’ll go

Leave ‘em laughing

Some folks say

Before the closing curtains

Will end the show

Chorus 3

A tear or two will be okay

Needed for a good laugh anyway

Those laughs from deep down in your soul

Yeah…that’s the way I’ll want to go

Ending ½ Verse

When I’m gone

I hope you laugh

How you laugh well

That’ll be up to you

End on you with [D] [A] [D]

I remember when she first emerged as a new country artist and I really enjoyed her music. After that there were lots of stories about all sorts of trouble and bad press on her which I really didn't pay too much attention to. I didn't hear much music wise from her after that. I agree that it is a shame her life and career had to be cut short and end this way. 37 is way too young.

I'm not sending it to you by e-mail Jets60.  I'll print one out for you on transfer paper and then you have to come get it.  I'll bring out the space heater, maybe crank up the fireplace, and we'll have our own semi-tropical retreat in my family room.  Bring your beautiful wife and we'll have some appetizers and drinks.

- Zurf

Hey my friend - sounds like a plan. I'll call you later today and work out the details.  big_smile

I never met a guitarist who didn't feel they needed at least 1 more guitar.....or a spouse who wanted them to get rid of some.

Yeah, but how are you set for tequila?

Heard on the news today that the northeastern US is going to get a ton of snow dumped on them this Friday. Specifically, I'm worried about Amy and whether or not she has enough guitar strings to help make it through the dig out. I heard the estimates are over 30 inches for New York & Boston, Mass. areas.
