Just a note for all you Cedar fans..... the Species is not sustainable (at least in the US).  Even as proud as we are here in the Northwest about our Forestry Practices, mandatory re-planting, controlled harvests etc.. There are gaps and Cedar managed to slip through one of the "cracks".  There has not been or is presently any requirement to put back what you take, unlike Fir which has to have something like 10 seedlings put in the ground for every 1 cut, Cedar has been exempt from that.

Recently a local Cedar Mill closed down, and I asked the owners why..... and the answer is that there is no cedar to mill anymore.  Still some in Alaska, Washington, and Canada at considerably higher cost, but the Species has all been cut and soon will be in really short supply.

Just tossing that out there for consideration, as the cost and availability may change quickly.  Personally I'm a Spruce Fan.

Stupid industry.  They don't do what they need to do to sustain themselves without the government requiring them to, and then they probably complain about government intervention.

Ha ha.  My impression of an imaginary UG conversation.

Zurf: "I'm having trouble memorizing the solo for A Song.  Does anyone have any suggestions for making it simpler?"
UG1: "Learn to play ****head."
UG2: "Give up.  That's the easiest solo ever.  If you can't play that, you SUCK!!!"
UG3: " 'A Song' is stupid.  Why do you want to play that ****hole song."

Yeah.  I don't go on the forums there much any more.  There is no encouragement.  No help.

We've got all wood floors upstairs and all porcelain tile downstairs.  Hard floors makes a difference, but all the walls are drywall and pretty dead sounding.  We used to have a wood paneled wall that was a nice thick heart of pine wood.  That made the sound pretty lively downstairs, but it was lost to a water event and carpenter ants.

Well done Joe and Robert.

Good luck picking guitar back up.

Now that the initial unpleasantries are out of the way, come back soon and let us know how you're doing.  Also, check out the new feature of Song of the Month.  It's a fun little bit where we each take our own approach to a cover that can be found in the Chordie song searches.

As for the KISS approach, it wasn't kissing any more.  It was just grouching at the servers and the old software kept kicking it in the hey-now!, so changes were necessary.  I liked the old site too, but the new site does seem to work better, more quickly, and doesn't crash.

As for you having a hard time of it for the past several years, I hope that's behind you now.  Look to the future.  I can tell you that I was in a bad place this past winter, but the good grace and generosity of some Chordians when we got together in March helped pull me out of it.  The people here do genuinely care about one another.  So, I guess we got pretty defensive.  Sorry about that.

Ok here is my attempt at WAGON WHEEL.
I struggled vocally with this song to be honest, it definitely suits a male voice in my opinion .... I probably should have tried it in a different chord. I am also playing guitar on this one and I am re-learning guitar which I haven`t played much in years.  Ok, that is all my excuses over with wink and except to say, we need some females here having ago at these songs too smile
I changed the word  'Momma' to 'Baby for obvious reasons.
I have a friend of mine joining me, she is playing the harmonic and banjo bits.  My daughter is playing the Cajon.

I saw you had a comment about more practice.  BAH!  Practice is for sissies!  Not when you can have your girls over and jam a while.  It sounded like you were having fun, and fun is what this whole music thing is about.

My index finger on my right hand is pretty continuously bruised for that reason.  Any advice I give on the topic should be immediately ignored, so I won't give any.

Good luck.

I hope you don't play licks that hot on your White Falcon!

Sorry your Mom is having a tough time Jim.  Prayers for her from Virginia.

I'm out. I know I said it was unlikely for me, but I've been holding out hope because it's something I very much want to do.  However, there's no way I'm going to be able to make it this year.  I just got a new project at work and it's going to consume me through the end of August.

Bad Habits and Mistakes - I thought you were going to ask me to write a lesson book given that "bad habits and mistakes" pretty much describes my whole style.

I have been told that for every negative comment (and remember that the kids are going to consider anything neutral as negative) you have to provide ten or more positive comments.  I think that seems a bit light.  More positive comments are probably appropriate when dealing with teens.  They're awfully sensitive critters.

$90 is doable!  May as well get it done and fix up the axe he's got.

Welcome back.  I hope to see more of you.

Some motivation might be the new Song Of The Month feature.  Check it out.

I haven't saved enough to retire yet, but I think I would make a phenomenal lottery jackpot winner.

OK I sat down this afternoon and I have just finished recording Wagon Wheel. Again a choice of song that I do not know but I really enjoyed doing this one. As a change from tradition I have no drum and bass from Band-in-a-Box with this time, just me fingerpicking my Nashville tuned guitar and strumming a standard tuned one.

Cool version Roger.  You know what song would sound really great with your approach?  Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Cool.  Keep the boy picking and banging on things and his life will be better off for it.

Sounds like you're in for a new neck anyway.  That sounds pricey.

Long live the bread machine.

Down on the Corner is by Creedance Clearwater Revival and Wagon Wheel is by Old Crow Medicine Show and has been covered by Darius Rucker.  Youtube will have goodies.

Every August at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts they have the Swamp Romp where they get three to five Cajun and Zydeco bands to play.  It's always a good time and reasonably priced especially if you get lawn seats.

In our county there's also a large winery named Breaux, the owner after which it is named is from Louisiana.  They have a Cajun festival each summer as well.  It's a bit pricey, but I hear it's a good time.  I haven't been because of the cost.

Anyone else planning on coming that hasn't said so yet?  ZURF - any possibility you'll be able to make it after all?

Well Dad's doing a lot better, but it's still pretty iffy for me.

I'm hoping to see Dirty Ed here in Virginia at a different friend's campfire at the same place where we had the Shenandoah Zurfapolooza a few years back.  The other friend is Herschel, of Hersch's Campfire Song

None of those fake chords, please.   :-)

I suggest that you pick Roger Guppy.  I wonder what song he'd select.
