Speakers are fun..... once you have some understanding of how things work.

This link will take you somewhere that has a pretty good tutorial on resistance and power....  http://www.prestonelectronics.com/audio/Impedance.htm

Either way your extension speaker should be 8 ohm (4 ohm total load in parallel with the 8 ohm speaker in the amp) and I would likely size it at the 60Watt RMS which is the output of the amplifier (or a bit higher for headroom). Bear in mind that the 100 Watts referenced in your spec is now split between 2 loads (or 50 Watts per speaker).

Watts is Watts, Amps is Amps, to my mind the more important thing is the frequency response and range of the speaker.... that is what really matters in music, the part you hear.  Volume is a function of size, not power, and you will try to get something loud without losing the high frequencies...... do your homework and check those numbers as well.  You should be able to find something in your price range that will serve you well without "letting the smoke out" of your amp.

I'll take a stab at helping with this I guess.

First thing to do is to go to your profile page and see if there is a default instrument change.  There has been quite a bit of site maintenance happening recently and it is possible that your preferences were altered in error.

If the problem is in your personal songbook, you may have to change your preferences in that as well and save the changes before you exit to try to reset that also.

There may be more.... but those are my best guesses at the moment.

All good advice above!  Now as for barre chords...  learn your open first position chords as if somebody had cut off your index finger.  I know that seems a little extreme, but you will want to be using that finger for your barre and that means you have t learn to make the shapes using the 234 fingers.  Especially the E and A shapes (although the CAGED system uses all of those as well).  You will want the major and minor variants, and it's useful to know the maj7 and min7 fingerings too.

Many chord shapes are movable without the barre, but you sacrifice the bass tones as a trade off.

It all takes practice, and patience, and we are all here to support you as you progress.

Dang it Badeye!  You did it again..... you keep finding these little gems out there, I wander off to see what you've found, and the next thing I'm
caught in that terrible you-tube vortex.

One snippet leads to another and the result is I've lost a couple hours of my life!  Plumb forgot to make supper! and I'm burning up valuable guitar re-stringing time.

All in jest I assure you buddy.  Keep it up.... it's all good!

Does indeed sound like a good time Z/

As for the price..... $95 a head is kinda in line with concert tickets these days for a 3 1/2 hour show.

Carlos Santana and Rod Stewart have a concert tour stopping in Portland in the near future, and although I'd dearly like to see Carlos (Rod's old standards not so much), there are a few seats available (not in the nose-bleed section) ranging from $1200 to $2500, a third of the way up at center, stage left or right..... depending on the depth of your pockets.

Makes the train ride seem almost cheap!!

Welcome to Chordie Maarkr!

I believe that you can start a personal songbook, add the tunes that you want in it and then edit the chords, tuning, etc. to whatever you want.
Just be sure to save the changes to your songbook before closing so they will be retained.

If I am mistaken, I'm sure someone will be along to add or correct me, but it seems I read that somewhere in one of the guides or stickys at the top of one of the sections...... just can't recollect which one at the moment.

Getting my toes wet though.

Sounds like a good time anyway..... sorry the turnout was not as large as you wanted.  Know how that is, had a family reunion this last weekend myself.  Last year about 60 folks managed to attend, and this year 12 made it.

My freezer is full of cheesecake that nobody came to eat, but we had a nice trip and good conversation, and there's always next year.

Should be an exciting season however it rolls.  Looking forward to watching the Hawks.... providing they get any games televised.
The Beast is back!

Good teams coming together on both ends of the divide.... so if everybody stays healthy, should be great!

NELA..... do yourself a favor and take the free music.  The last free t-shirt I got shrank so badly I had to pass it on to my youngest.  Of course it just couldn't be that I grew.

OK Brother Zurf,

You've had a couple days to recuperate and get your place put back together after the party.... So, how was your weekend?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Not necessarily a line from Highlander...but I noticed that a majority of our posters are from English Speaking Countries.  That got me to wondering if there are alternate versions of this great forum hiding elsewhere that we are unaware of.  Sites like Chordie.de, or Chordie.nl, or Chordie.cz, or Chordie.ru?  Targeted specifically for the rest of the world based on predominant language.

Granted it is fairly easy to write in your native language and then use one of the translation applications to convert your thoughts into another format, but it is cumbersome and not always accurate.  Heck we have trouble expressing our actual meanings sometimes in English some of the time.

Anybody know?

Thanks Z,

Actually over 6 years..... could have been a lot more.  Not that I'm shy, just not generally wordy if the contents of other posts have pretty much said what I was going to say.  I'll add something if it's worthwhile, otherwise I just kind of stand back and let the horses run.

Well it's only fair that after a little over six years and 999 posts, I should have a chance to welcome a new (ish) member to our Chordie Community.

Welcome! and it is nice to have you join in our discussions, and having been a "lurker" for a few months and surely reading the posts..... what took ya so long Bud?   (just joking if you couldn't tell)

Anyway that is a very good question, and I don't recall it ever coming up before.  My guess is anything that fits the context is acceptable. To the best of my knowledge, there hasn't been a ruling or vote or decree that specifically "names" the members as a group.  So unless it is demeaning in some way or offensive, take your pick.

Tell us a bit about yourself, music tastes etc., after a really short while you'll start to feel like one of the "Family" except you don't have to send everyone a Christmas card.... at over 500k members writer's cramp would cripple you for life, and your guitar would get really lonely.

I've installed Reaper also..... really early in this section.  Back in the Genesis chapter of the recording forum Russell & I played around with a few different pieces of software to see what would work or not.  If memory serves, our criteria was to come up with something that was easy to use for those that were not too tech savvy, and it had to be free..... I did mention FREE!

We always knew that there were better tools out there and assumed that as folks got comfortable with recording and sharing their music, a natural migration to better tools would happen.  Software has evolved, there is better training available (especially via youtube), and there is still Audacity out there for starting with.

So whatever flavor of software you prefer, keep it up!  Several sections of Chordie are better for having this one..... So I would like to take this opportunity to aknowledge and thank Russell Harding for coming up with the idea and taking it to fruition.

Thanks Russ!

Good point Dino.

When we were 5, we were figuring out the best place to put the clothespin so that the joker made the best sound when hit by a spoke, or deciding if we could swing a bat better right or leftie.  These days kids are coding mods for World Of Warcraft pretty early...... ain't progress grand!!?????

Liked the music, good job!

Also appreciate the local place names.... those conventions hold in most older agricultural communities, a leftover from the homestead days I expect.  Have a few around here as well that don't show on the map.  Like Seehoeffer Flats, this old homesteader platted out a huge chunk of what can only be described as marshland (the good stuff had already been claimed).  He and his kids drained the swamp and now it's some of the best bottom land in the county.  All the locals know where you are talking about just from the name, everyone else needs GPS coordinates.

That was a conflict that changed the "art of warfare" forever.  Calvary against artillery and machine guns, mad dashes through the mud & wire, crawling through the rats and corpses, and my personal favorite.... the birth of chemical weapons.

Somehow I thought the nature of man was to learn from our mistakes...... ?

Good imagry and well written.

I just checked it out ..... and it's #1 Now!!

Of Course I had nothing to do with that, but there are a few Chordieans that might have tipped the scales.

Nice tune by the way.

Take Care and best wishes for your fighting friends, got a couple of those myself.

Dude, what was it acting like before it died?  Only asking because I dabble a bit in repairing these things.  Mostly to donate to school-kids whose families aren't well funded.  From Kindergarten on up you darn near HAVE to possess one and have internet access to keep up in the school system.

Anyway the symptoms might point to something easily fixed and you can possibly resurrect "old faithful" for a lot less than a replacement.

Year make and model is also helpful (like your car), some have known issues or weakness.

I'll mark it on my calendar, but the chances of me being able to make the trip are about the same as winning the lottery.... or getting a recording contract.

Somewhere between slim and none.... but I might get a chance to do a little traveling and haven't been to the Gulf Coast, Sooooo?

Enjoy your new digs Top!

Man you did drag out an oldie didn't ya?
Somewhere around here I have a copy of Uriah Heep's first album (on vinyl).... good to see the old guys still can do it (gives hope to us geezers).  I also checked out some other folks top 10 lists of PR Bands..... many of which I remember being a fan of back when I was just a.... "younger person".

Thanks;

Ya know Beamer, if you can play that barre on 14..... you should be able to do it on 2.  Just thought I'd mention it for grins, unless you really need that bass tone up there.  Some notes just resonate more on heavier strings higher up the neck and moving around on the fretboard can add flavor in a good way where you don't expect.

Get it figured out I'd like to hear the result as well.

Thanks;
Doug
