Hi!  Please check this thread:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=27009

There are details explaining how possibly your antivirus software or an ad blocking extension might be blocking advertisements and therefore messing up the website layout.  There's also a photo reference to check to see if your page is displaying ads properly.  Admin is currently working on this, but we need to know if it's the fact that ad's are being blocked causing a layout issue, or if it's something else.  So, we'd really appreciate it if you could review that thread and let us know there if you're still seeing issues after a little ad blocking troubleshooting.  smile  Thanks!

Hmmm... there's a lot of fishing going on in the lake a mile from my home.  They don't take boats this time of year though... snow mobiles, 4 wheelers, and augers are required.  wink  If I took a walk in the woods, I'd need to bring a shovel with me.  The snow's up to my waist!

Good to know DE!  I know Zurf said the Salmon River was on his bucket list (fishing bucket list?) at some point, so I wasn't sure how that worked.  I grew up fishing out of a boat in a lake with lots of peace and quiet, worms being the bait of choice.  I don't know a darn thing about fly fishing!  smile  So, if Zurf feels similarly, then we just have to figure out what time of the year (and which year) Paul and Mrs. Paul plan to visit Lady Liberty.  wink

BTW Paul... the fabulous Niagara Falls is only about a 3 1/2 hour drive from me as well!  Up here in NY, our hottest days are in July.  May and June, August and September are pretty decent.  If you want to see the changing of the Maples though, you'll want to visit in October (and "winter" starts at the end of October so don't stay too long, especially the further north you head!).

Tenement Funster... While Canada in general is awful close to NY... I suppose where you ARE in Canada isn't quite so close (unless you took a plane).  I just Googled it, and you'd be looking at a 15 hour drive!  HOLY CROWS!  If only you were in Toronto or even Kingston!

Here ya go... a link to the album of a trip to the falls with my girls (hiked down and then back up the VERY STEEP path to get to the bottom of the falls!) And there's a few pics from the Upper FlyFishing area as well.  Clearly, we weren't fishing but just taking in the hike and beauty!  smile

I know a slew of you are big into fishing.  The east end of the fabulous NY Salmon River is just a quick 30 minute drive from my home.  I've taken the kids up to the fish hatchery in Altmar (http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/55681.html) and the falls just up the road are an absolute beautiful walk any time of the year, you can go the difficult route or the easy way (I have some really cool pics on my FB page) ...

http://cnyhiking.com/SalmonRiverFalls050.JPG

Here's a fishing map for your consideration:  http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_ … alrwpm.pdf

Pulaski, is an easy stop off the i81 and just up the road a bit from Altmar as well if that's a more desired fishing spot.

It seems the most popular times of year for fishing the River are around March and September.  My question is, if you were making a trek here, would it be for the running of the Salmon?  Should I consider planning this around them in September possibly?

If we are talking September, then I might need to plan for next year as we'd probably want to rent a location that has heat and running water as it can get a bit too chilly for sleeping in tents around that time in NY.  Also, the rentals at prime fishing season are week long rentals (the fishermen are pretty serious about their fishing around here), so I'll need a good solid response with number of folks that will likely attend.

If just a chordie gathering for guitar playing, and a day on the river - Salmon or not - is more your style, we can absolutely plan that for a summer get together at either a local campground or a few days at a fishermans rental.

Let me know what you guys think.  Altmar, NY this summer or next fall for salmon???  Anyone?

I think some of the Canadian and PA Chordians could easily make this event.  I know it leaves our west coast friends out still... although they're more than welcome to make the trek if they see fit.  Perhaps Normtheguitar could even attend if you're already planning to visit the Big Apple ... it's only a 45 minute plane trip from NYC to SYR and we could easily find the Mrs. a nicer motel/hotel to stay than a communal fishing trailer or tent site!  smile

The problem with Guitar Center is three fold in my opinion. 1. Inventory carrying costs.  2. They treat their customers as if they are thieves. 3. Their staff - except every once in a while in the high end acoustic guitar room - doesn't know their stock, or at least is unwilling to share that information.

I couldn't agree more.  My local mom n pop shop has better prices along with way more knowledge and far superior customer service.

A few years ago several of us "Chordians" met up at a campsite in Virginia.  Don't let Dirty Ed fool ya.  He's a very VERY humble man, amazing picker, fantastic storyteller, and a freaking blast and a half to meet in person.  Upon meeting his wife last year at a Chordie get together, I swear I was meeting one of the sweetest women I've ever met in my life.  Also, very humble and so pleasant to be around.  Anyhow... I do have a few recordings gathered together and photos from the VA gathering posted on the tube.  smile  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8Oe-BBMOQ  - The first song is Dirty Ed, with one of his most requested originals at the campfires.  The next is me with a cover.  After that is Zurf with one of his originals (or it's a DE song?  I'm losing my memory on who owns that song for sure).  After that is the amazing Normtheguitar all the way from the UK with his magical fingers.  Jets60 with his beautiful family, Mekidsdad (my hubby), and GuitarPix and his beautiful fun loving wife were also in attendance.

On topic - I don't really have any real gigs to speak of.  I've played with my Dad at an open mic (that we pretty much took over), and filled in during the breaks at a Birthday Party once (people wanted to know why they didn't start out with me playing and singing since I was more relaxing to listen to for the older folks - they didn't realize I wasn't "hired" which was a pretty cool feeling).  I made a buck or two busking with my daughter at a local open air craft show.  Been singing in public since I was a kid, but my knees still knock when I know people are watching.  wink

Hi all!  Will you please move over to this thread:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=27017

I've put up a suggestion there that might solve the issues for you (downloading chrome for iPad, then using the menu button in Chrome to "Request Desktop Site") - this may resolve the issues you're experiencing with the mobile rendering of the site.  If it does or does not, we'd love to hear back from you in that thread.  It's a lot of programming to make the site run well on the 4 major computer browsers.  To then add all the programming necessary for the pages to render correctly in mobile version (on the multiple browsers available on mobile devices) is that much more.  Admin is looking into fixing the mobile rendering of the site, but in the meantime, my suggestion might be a simple fix for you for now.  Thank you so much for your time and reporting the issues you're seeing.  Without input from members, we don't always know there's an issue (Admin can't possibly have access to every browser on every device or the time to test them all - one man, formatting one huge website, without anything more than advertising revenue to keep it moving).

I'll be looking for your replies in that thread, and I've shared the thread with Admin as well - he will be checking there to see what's going on!  smile  THANK YOU!!!!!

Our snowstorm has been downgraded. Yesterday we had 4"-8" of snow in the forecast for Sunday night into Monday morning. It's now a light coating of snow, changing to sleet, freezing rain and then just plain rain. Looks like I won't be putting the plow on the truck tomorrow.

Looks like we are going to get that storm instead.  Apparently it decided to travel north.  Tonight into Monday night we are on the lookout for 7-14" of snow at a rate of "an inch or so" per hour at times.

Bill, my house is over 100 years old... Originally built with nothing more than a coal fireplace in the center of the house for heating.  House been upgraded a little over the years, but done poorly (we are still slowly working on things... But darn the problems w/old houses are so plentiful).  Still has original windows (huge, beautiful, terribly insulated). We keep 2-3 electric space heaters going and the furnace blowing heat around the whole house.  We have a wood stove too, but need a new chimney for it (the ginormous old chimney doesn't have enough draw without a liner for the wood... Don't know how they ever managed to keep coal going in the fireplace way back when and got any heat out of it).  I would much rather deal with this house's heating issues in Georgia weather! I swear it wasn't built for the North.

I am using Windows 7-64 Bit explorer 11. If the 5 songs ad could be turned sideways (spread out horizontally under the main header ) I think that would clear the chord diagrams. I also get the overlap on Firefox. Really like the site and the resources available.
Kaspersky Internet security is my AV.

Kaspersky does have ad blocking software built in, and it's not just blocking pop ups.

"Blocked and Allowed URLs

If you find that Kaspersky is overzealous when blocking non-ad content or that you want to see some advertisements, you can add them to the whitelist or allowed URLs and still use Anti-Banner. You must check to enable this on the "Anti-Banner" settings screen of your program. You can then add URLs to banners or the websites that host them to the allowed list. Similarly, Kaspersky features a blocked or blacklist of websites. Kaspersky has already populated this list to include known ad websites; however, you can enable this tool and ad new websites, of which Kaspersky may not know, or specific banner URLs to the list."

You may want to look into setting Chordie's domain to the allowed list to ensure the ads are displayed and then the 5 songs module won't end up covering the chord diagrams.  smile  I'm sure there's info available on Kaspersky's website or help dialog to do so.

Note, on the song page you should see 2 advertisements.  One at the top and one on the side.  To see where these ads should appear you may view this example here:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9KrI_ … sp=sharing

I have scribbled out the song due to possible copyright issues with sharing this photo.  I have also circled in yellow highlighter where the ad's should be displaying on a song page.  If you aren't seeing ads in these locations, and the 5 songs is covering up the chords, chances are you have some ad blocking software causing an issue with the page display as described in my previous post.  If you ARE seeing the ads here, and it's still causing an issue, please let us know so we can help Admin determine the cause to find a solution!  smile  Thanks!!

Hi there!  Sorry about the frustration.  I understand typing that all out only to come back to find it deleted is very annoying.  To help explain the reason this had to be done, please read this Thread located within this section of the forum titled "PLEASE READ THIS FIRST" http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=120  To further explain the situation, song lyrics are copyright material.  Posting of them within the forum is a violation of copyright law.  The admin of Chordie has had legal actions in the past regarding song lyrics being HOSTED on this website's servers.  The songs that you may find here are not HOSTED here, they are actually rendered from other websites in a way that makes it easy to view (it's not illegal for Chordie to do that, the sites where the info is actually hosted are possibly under attack but that's their problem, not ours.  The way Chordie works is similar to simply posting a link to another site that contains the information you're looking for.  Link posting is ok!)  However, anything posted within the forums actually IS HOSTED on this site's servers, and therefore is illegal and may cause lawsuits to arise against the owner of this website (as well as yourself for being the one posting the copyrighted material).  To keep Chordie free, and prevent violation of copyright laws, no lyrics can be posted that may possibly be in violation of that law.

You are welcome to post one liner lyrics.  You are welcome to let someone know you've figured it out and ask if you can email them.  Sending something through email won't affect Chordie.  You can state you've figured it out and let folks know if they want it they can email you requesting the information.  If you search through this section, you'll see that full lyrics and chords are not posted, and may use other posts as a guide for how you can provide the information for someone looking without violating laws.  The only time full songs are posted is if the creator themselves does so (such as members posting their own songs they've written on the site).

Again, I'm sorry for the frustration with this, and we really don't enjoy removing your hard work!

This post has been edited to remove the original quote.  The quote was deleted by the member.  I have left my post intact, as it's nice to have a reminder now and then for new members.  smile

So far, from Doug's other post linked here it looks like some ad blocking browser extensions may be messing with the layout of the page, although EricSh is still having the issue in Chrome.  I'm curious if there's other ad blocking software installed on your computer that may be the culprit though (a lot of antivirus software also has ad blocking software built into it).  There are a TON of possible culprits.

Pop-up ad blocking software shouldn't affect how you view the site, but additional ad blocking extensions or software might.  This site is built with tons of frames, and some of the frames include auto generated google ads at a certain width and height.  If the Google Ad's aren't displaying, then the frame the ad is supposed to be in may auto shrink, causing the rest of the page to not render correctly.  It sounds like this is what's happening.  We'll make certain Admin is aware of the issue.  There may be a way for him to set each frame to a certain width and height even if nothing is displayed within it.

The downside here, is if you aren't seeing ads, then you aren't clicking on them.  Chordie is a free website with no membership fees, so the small revenue from the ads is what helps to keep Chordie online (website hosting fees, bandwidth for our hundreds of thousands of members isn't free for the man behind the scenes).  So, of course you could try to make sure that you're not totally shutting off all ad displays to make sure you can see the site as it's intended to be viewed.  Now that we know what's likely causing the issue though, admin can take a look and see about a possible fix.

THANK YOU ALL for the detailed information provided.  If you can send a screenshot (the snipping tool in Windows is nice for this) of the issue to admin@chordie.com along with the browser version and any extensions, that would also go a long way to helping him configure things differently!

Since you're both experiencing the same thing, and it's Safari via iPad, I'm going to take a stab that it's possibly related to a mobile rendering of the site.  There's the "full site" and there's a "mobile version of the site" on almost every website you visit.  There's a lot of extra back end work that goes into making sure the mobile version of a website is fully operational (especially when some mobile devices don't support things like java or flash items that are often incorporated into a website).  I know admin was talking about getting the mobile version of Chordie in better shape going forward.  I will certainly make sure he's aware of the issues so he can get that worked out in the future.  In the mean time, I've seen that everything seems to work properly on full PC's and Mac's running most browsers, so moving the the computer will solve the issues.

You may want to try downloading the Chrome Browser for your iPad.  If you can do that, then from the menu option within the Chrome for iPad browser, click on "request desktop site" - this should redirect you to the full version of the website that you normally see on your PC or Mac rather than the mobile version that is incomplete.  From here, you should be able to do all the things you're used to!  This of course is just a possible work around to your current issues, but I hope it helps!  I find on my Android this works perfectly, but I don't personally have an iPad.  I'd love to hear if this works for you!    smile

Hi Pam, welcome to the forums!  Can you please advise a bit more detail so we can help you out?  What device are you using to access Chordie (PC, MAC, Mobile device) and what operating system (Windows X, 8.1, some weird Mac Leopard, Android 4.4.4, etc) and then also what browser you're using and version as well please.  If you aren't sure how to look any of this up, just give us as much info as you've got and we'll help you figure out the rest.  Admin is working on trying to ensure users can see everything properly.   Thanks so much!!
