Thanks Scott! There wasn't much recorded of me over that weekend. You all made me feel all... red in the face and teary. Thank you. What's funny is I usually play that in D, a little lower so I can get the GRIT in there more. LOL! It was a little challenge singing with so many talented people too! Fun times!
Topdown - Only if you have an unlimited supply of margaritas or something else fruity! LOL!
Zurf - Maybe I'm dizzy, but wasn't I going after Topdawg? Or was I stuck after Wayne? Either way, it was a tricky spot to be in for me too! The playing was amazing, and here all I can really do WELL is sing! Nothing as amazing as that weekend though. Hands down, do it all again in a heartbeat!!!!!

Re: moderator, clarification please (1 replies, posted in Song requests)
There isn't a way to upload a song directly to your online Chordie.com songbook. Only songs that are already indexed by Chordie can be added to your song book. I suggest requesting the song be added to chordie's index (under Resources, then add songs to the index) and keeping an eye open. It does sometimes take some time for songs to be added. Once it has been, you should then be able to edit and save online.

PIcs of the set up or it is not real LOLOLOL
Scott, I can get you a pic of the plug... and a pic through a mirror of the pick-ups... but the awesome thing is no one would know it even had anything done to it unless they paid attention to the plug! You can't tell just from glancing that my Martin isn't "just an acoustic" anymore! LOL!

Re: I think I want to mic my guitar (33 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Thank you again Doug! K&K purchased and installed as a Mother's Day present to me. Plugged it into the friend's PA and it sounded sooooooooo gooooood! My husband has been playing around with my Martin on his Line 6 Amp, having a blast and thinking he doesn't need a new electric anymore, just a good acoustic and a K&K! LOL! I went in and looked at that little Bherringer and got really scared. Talked to the kid in the speaker department, and he was suggesting a small PA that I don't want to even think about at the same price point over the little Bherringer. I got turned off quick, and am now considering the Fishman LoudBox Mini (sweetwater has a sweet deal on them at the moment with mic, stand, etc for the same price as the amp). We'll see what happens this weekend. I might just jump the gun and do it. At least I hear Sweetwater has a great return policy if it's not everything everyone says it is. I was considering a few others, but see reviewers stating this one is better than those specific ones I was looking at.
Anyhow, thanks again for the suggestions to everyone! I'm glad I didn't mic it after all and went with the K&K. As I said in another thread Zurf asked about, my friend with the PA is now looking into getting one too and he already has a magnetic soudhole pickup!

Re: Hey MKM or Normtheguitar (2 replies, posted in Acoustic)
YES! And it sounds good! It sounds just like you're knocking on the top of the guitar, almost drum like. What you would expect to hear if the guitar was mic'd in fact. I tried it through the friend's PA yesterday, and now HE is thinking about getting one too! Going to GC today to try it through that monitor/pa I was talking about. Chances are when my paycheck comes in I'll be buying that. It's quite awesome! Doug here on Chordie has one too, and he knows stuff about stuff. It was on his suggestion that I went for it, and am darn glad I did!!!! (Jim is enjoying the metal settings. Who'd have thought a Martin could sound so dirty? And yet, clean as a whistle through a PA with ZERO EQ. Just like it was Mic'd. AMAZING!!)

Re: I think I want to mic my guitar (33 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Found a Berringer amp for close to the same price, but I think I am going to go with that pa/monitor and if NEEDED I'll grab a preamp later on. I think I'm sold before even trying anything out. Good chance I might just grab the pickup online then maybe see if Guitar center has that pa/monitor in store to try it out. Thanks GUYS for all the help!!!!!

Re: I think I want to mic my guitar (33 replies, posted in Acoustic)
OK... so technically I don't NEED anything. He has all the monitors and mics anyone could want. BUT... I had been thinking of putting a pick up on my guitar anyway, and was considering different amps for a while now. Doug, I think I might just try that one you suggested. It's got a LOT of awesome reviews. Here's my new question... although he has everything, isn't it proper etiquette to come with my own monitor and microphone? Or am I just trying to be too PC? What do you guys think of this: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B205D.aspx -- looks like more than a decent monitor, plus for fiddling around/practice/maybe at some point doing something on my own, it's cheaper than going through and getting a special acoustic amp (they all seem to be in the $300 range), plus it can double as a monitor, should work good for my immediate wants/needs as well as anything small I might do on my own in the future. Plus, there's no DI necessary. I get that the controls will be for everything plugged into it, not individual EQ. It's not a "do it all" but, for simple me it kind of is. I think. Thoughts?

Re: I think I want to mic my guitar (33 replies, posted in Acoustic)
THANK YOU ALL!!!
I seriously wasnt sure how all the hooking up to everything worked. The sound guy is also versed in MANY instruments and is the one that asked if I would be interested. They need vocals more than anything else, and my strumming is welcome. This is not a done deal, just a conversation at this point and invitation to jam. The guy ownes everything to electrify an entire band. Mics, a gazillion cords, amps, pa, the whole shebang. Yes, he did just plug the pick up into his bass amp first, then we tried the electic guitar amp. I didnt like the sound of either. As for me having an amp, well... that's for me for maybe future stuff, mainly because I figure if I own a pick up I ought to own something to use it with, and because I wasnt sure if it was necessary. Now I know its not.
But I still want one, lol. Sounds like I dont have to worry too much right away, but now I am feeling back to square one ... for personal and possibly future use.... mic or pick up? I will take a look into the links some of you provided. Thank you ![]()

Re: I think I want to mic my guitar (33 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Ok. So this is a TON of good info Zurf! I don't know the first thing about the first thing. LOL! I was thinking an amp just to get used to hearing myself amplified... and figured, if I want to use my guitar on stage w/ a whole band then I'll need my own gear of course. So... I get a mic or what not, that can go right to the board? Or do I need to go thru an amp first? Should I really be looking at two amps then for band purposes?

Re: I think I want to mic my guitar (33 replies, posted in Acoustic)
So, you're saying I need to take my guitar in and try different pick ups with different amps probably huh? I tried one at a friend's yesterday and my guitar - on clean setting on his amp, with tons of tweaking - sounded like an electric. I didn't like it. ![]()

Topic: I think I want to mic my guitar (33 replies, posted in Acoustic)
So, I MIGHT be getting into a band, but I might not. LOL! Either way, I'm a little picky about the sound of my guitar. Pick ups seem to make it sound like an electric, and I don't like that. So, I'm thinking of putting a mic on it instead. Any suggestions on a decent, but not toooo terrribly high priced mic for an acoustic? I know they sell little ones like a pick up, would that be better than a stand? Also going to need a decent vocal mic and amp to run these to. Nothing too fancy. I just want to amplify my sound. There's a sound guy with a giant board to handle the rest. I don't really know the first thing about all that, nor do I think I want to! LOL!
Thanks Guys!

Nice one Phill! Good story song, with a nice hook.
As I was reading the words I was thinking more bluesy. I think you did a good job of it with a country feel though!
I like the chorus effects. What software is it that you use?

Finally, a little extra computer time. ![]()
I will say it again, I am truly awed by the response to this song. I've received not one, but TWO emails about people on here working out a recording or adding to my own recording. It gives me tingles in my belly to know that it's been taken so well.
Ken P - your comments make me consider finding a little quiet time and playing around in audacity a bit more. Maybe I will attempt to record a couple tracks and put them together instead of just doing the guitar and vocals all at once. I really need to play around a little more with some software. I also have a friend nearby that has a whole home studio set up. If I can find some time when he's free, maybe I'll even go over there. He's offered, and I just don't get out enough!
Jeff- Jets60- I actually blushed when I read your reply. I'm sure glad no one was around to see it. I don't think I blush very much anymore. LOL! Thank you!
TIGLJK, Jim - I don't think I really have a ton of talent when it comes to the guitar. I just strum it. I don't even know what I'm doing half the time. ha ha! Thank you so much though. Every time I play it or listen to it, I think of Mad Beach or Treasure Island - the white beaches in the Gulf of Florida. The recent Chordiestock II trip helped a LOT with that visualization!
As for writing it, the funny thing is I just had a writing "moment". I threw one song down on paper in about 20 minutes, messed with it, said "oh that's crap" then fiddled with the guitar a little and threw this one down in another 20 minutes. I tweaked it and played with the vocals and changing a few chords over the course of the day. I actually can't believe how quickly it all came together. Hence, wanting to do another recording sometime in the future. I didn't really spend "enough" time on it. OR, that's how I feel at the moment.
(ps - this has probably been covered somewhere before, but what does the TIGLJK stand for?)
DINO - how did you change it? When I started writing it I was teetering between bluesy and island feel... I went island because it seemed to fit better with the chorus. I'd love to hear what you're doing different. Graham is working on a reggae version! ![]()
To all the rest of you, THANK YOU... I love you all! Chordie is THE BEST! Maybe I'm nuts, but I made a facebook "music page" for myself. I realize I have some stuff on youtube and some stuff on soundclick and if anyone wants to find everything it's really tricky. This won't help anyone using an android/iphone facebook app, but on the computer if you go to the link under my profile for website, you can see my music page on FB and from there I have added soundclick and youtube apps so you can play everything from FB without bouncing around sites.
I am seriously considering pushing myself to find a public outlet for music too. We'll see how that goes. I sure wish there were actual open mics around me.

I second Zurf's big thank you! Along with showing up in a "special place" on the site for us mods, many of us also receive an email letting us know something has been reported. Sometimes, when I'm not expecting to visit Chordie I do just because of these emails to see if there's anything I can do to get rid of the spam. We all hate it. THANK YOU for helping us out and not replying to the spam in a thread. It's truly the members that make Chordie's forum what it is! I don't even like dill or sour pickles, I do it all for you guys! ![]()

I am glad the main check up went well. Sorry to hear about the meds side effects. Thankful it's not more serious though (like effecting your lungs or whatnot). I hope its more an issue with the sun than the meds altogether and it can get sorted out with sunblock, hats, and such. Take it easy on yourself NELA! No overdoing it young man! We love ya!!!!
