Southpaw, Man I have set here for the last hour writing you out a list. The first time I got about 10 songs listed ready to post and then changed the page instead of switching tabs...urgggg!! After cursing for 10 minutes I sat down and made a longer post and was at about song 15 or 16 when my wife came in and we got talking and I f#%*@d up and did it again..... I'm not going to sit here and redo it all tonight ,It's getting late and work is early, But maybe I'll throw you a few more ideas tomorrow when I'm not so green wink Just had to share my current frustration!! lol -Pix

I'd stop by and try here http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/foru … y.php?f=17 It's an acoustic forum but electrics sell there as well. I've had really pleasant dealings through them. Put it there and on Craigslist first then move to ebay last.. The first 2 are free and will probably yield a better profit. I've bought and sold 50+ guitars on ebay and overall it's been good experiences but it does favor the buyer over the seller. Especially now that they've raised their fee's again. If you go ebay, you give 10% to them and then have to deal with shipping and scammers. If you don't have allot of good feedback from selling you'll usually take a hit on your first few sales , as no one trusts you yet. Also ,on the forum I gave you a link to, you could offer it as a partial trade for a step up acoustic and see what kind of offers you get. Just my thought's... -Pix

It'd be nice to have a classifieds section here on Chordie... hint ,hint... wink

I'm not much into electrics, so my experience is more with acoustics, but I do have a couple of electrics. One of them is an Ibanez AS83vv Semi-hollow body. Here's a pic of mine http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2209/179 … 20c8_b.jpg  I think it ran me about $450 a couple of years ago. They stopped making this exact model but still carry the AS line up. It has been a real joy to play. A very flexible and well toned guitar! I'd recommend them. I think they excell in their price range. Just thought I'd drop in my .02.. -Pix

I'll stop there, not knowing if we have the same taste or not..lol If you like them and want more let me know. Peace! -Pix

I'm currently playing in a 3 person band but all my public gigs (only 2 so far) have been solo.

I have 3 boys and they all want a PSP each... So that's probably the main thing on the list. Three of those and few games are going to set me back around $800! I went the musical route last year and got each of them a guitar (1 electric and 2 acoustics) and a years worth of free lessons from dear old dad smile They also got a drum set and keyboard last year so music's been covered. I guess I'll let them indulge in the games this year...Maybe it'll free up the PS3 for me to play on more often wink

Me and the wife don't usually do anything for ourselves on Christmas. We put it all to the kids and family and then when tax checks come out we indulge ourselves.

I've owned 2 Ibanez acoustics, an AW100 and an AW200ecvv. Both were good guitars for the money and I think Ibanez are underrated as far as acoustics. However, with that said, I'd think long and hard before buying a slim model acoustic. Also the model you're looking at has laminate back, sides, and top. It's also all maple which will probably have a very bright tone.If you're going for plugged in sound than it's fine but acoustically, you may find it lacking. In that price range I'd be looking hard at the Godin line (Seagull, Simon & Patrick, Art & Lutherie) Or other solid topped guitars or even possibly a used or 2nd epiphone (all solid wood) masterbuilt. There's really so many to choose from in that range...I'd be sure to try as many as possible before comitting to one. -Pix

I'm with Southpaw on this. I love the solitude of the mountains! Give me a cabin by a stream with good fishing and my guitar and I'm a happy man. One of my favorite spots though, is a fish camp on the coast of N.C.  It's just a really small fish camp that's often occupied with old timers... They have 8 cabins that go for $20 bucks a day or $25 with AC. You can fish in the river off your back steps and it's some of the best I've found. You canoe, fish, and talk all day and at night there always a fire and a few people sitting around picking and telling stories... Good times! We usually go atleast once a year. It's called Blunts Creek fish camp and is located in Chocawinity about 60 miles north of New Bern (incase any locals are wondering;)). -Pix

I play with alot of muted or pecusive strums. It's one of the best things out there to add some interest or variation to your playing! IMO.. I found this video very helpful when first learning it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaQoq66H … re=related The video is very basic but the strumming technique is very useful and well laid out.

I like the idea, but untill then I use google talk its instant and free and I use tokbox for video chats maybe someday we can have these features on chordie you never know the nice thing about google talk is you can transfer mp3's or videos and other documents from your desktop to anyone in your network it saves time going online and entering passwords or picking up cookies or viruses, if google ever comes out with video chat I'll bet it will be superior to most other sites but till then tokbox will have to suffice smile

Google talk and Yahoo messenger is what I'm talking about... An active link to those that you use. We have the info on our profile page and it shouldn't be that hard to put an active link with our posts. That way if someone wanted to contact a fellow member they could just hit the link and go straight to it instead of having to look it up and do everything manually...

That's what I get for not coming around as much as I used to....;) I still think it would be nice to have an active link to other members IM addresses. That way if a subject comes up that warrants further discussion. We have an active link to chat with that person. It'd be allot easier than the way we have to do it now...

Changing the pins on your guitar will have NO effect without changing the nut and bridge, as well. If your existing pins are plastic, chances are the bridge and nut are of the same materials. Without changing them they will dampen any sound improvements made by the new pins.
There are several different types of materials that can be used from bone, ivory or synthetic available. Replacing the bridge and nut will take some expert fitting and might be best left to the experts. If you are going to undertake this activity I would recommend you let a professional do the work and completely set-up the guitar for your playing style at the same time.

I'll agree that the "Saddle" and nut have more of an effect on tone but changing pins even without changing the others will still change the tone of the guitar. The saddle may transfer most of the vibration from the strings to the top but it doesn't just stop there... The pins transfer that vibration to the bridge plate as well and softer or different pin materials will absorb or displace that vibration differently. The amount of difference by changing just bridge pins depends on a whole list of factors but the main one is the break angle of the strings over the saddle. The less the break angle the more diffrence you will hear by changing just bridge pins. Not all people have the ear to actually hear the difference but it is there.(not saying that you don't have the ear wink just admitting that sometimes it can be a very subtle change) Put in a set of brass pins without changing the saddle or nut and you will still hear a big tonal change, as they do offer the most change... As a side note though, All Art & Lutherie guitars come with Tusq nuts and saddles. -Pix

I've done a good bit of experimenting with bridge pins. I won't go all into details but will say that brass will give you the most change but ,like others have said, It's very bright! I tried a set on several of my acoustics and they didn't do it for me on any of them. I'd be particularly worried about coupling them with the wild cherry back and sides of your Art & Lutherie ( great guitar ,by the way, a friend has one) Wild cherry is a fairly bright sounding tone wood even if it is mellowed some by the cedar top... In my opinion, You hit it dead on with the ebony pins! That's what I'd go with to add a little more depth and punch to the tone. Just my .02 though... What I like you may not... It all depends on what your wanting to change about the tone of the guitar. -Pix

hmm Don't know why I was thinking they were made in the UK...:D Congrats on the guitar though! They are some fine sounding and playing guitars. What woods/model did you go with? Any Pics? smile Always good to bask in someone elses GAS relief lol Sounds like one heck of a woman as well!! smile -Pix

Hey Stonebridge! Any ties to the stonebridge guitars? I believe they are made in your part of the world. I had a chance to play a few a couple of months back and was very pleased with them. -Pix

I'd agree that solid tops are better and yes solid woods do change with age. With age the sap in tone woods crystalizes and allows for more vibration usually increasing sustain and adding more to the tone of the instrument. However in some cases the change doesn't have to be for the best. Take a guitar with a lightly braced top...It sounds good now and can handle middle to heavy strumming. Once it loosens/opens up it may become overdriven/muddy by heavy strumming but sound better finger picked than before.
As far as laminates go... Yes there are good ones! Cheaper, lower quality laminates are a laminate of good wood good over luane/plywood and really isn't good for anything. But the good laminates are made from 2-3 sheets of high quality solid tone woods and can age but it is hindered depending on the type of glue used in forming them. Hide glue will age with the wood and become freeier with time. I don't believe in using laminates for tops but think they are fine for back and sides. I went through a stage when I thought solid was always better but have come to learn with experience that that's not always so. I've had solid wood martins, taylors, larrivees and many more. I was convinced that solid woods were better and then I bought a quality laminate back and sided Yairi and was blown away. None of my other guitars could match it as far as tone. Laminates have a few advatages over solid woods. First is the whole humidity issue... Laminates are much more stable!! Also laminates can be made using a mixture of woods. Say you want a woody sounding guitar that has a strong bass line. Usually you'd go with mahogany for that open woody tone and rosewood for the bass attack. With laminates you can have a hog/rosewood/hog combination that will give you the characteristics of both tone woods. I think more has to do with construction than back and side woods. A good luthier can make a guitar sound just as good with lam back as a solid back. It all comes down to tuning the top braces to the guitar. In other words it's often depends on the builder.

To answer your question... Yes a good laminate could be better than a very poor quality solid top! But most of the time tops are better solid. The top defines the tone! 80-85% of tone is from the top, with 5% to the sides and 10-15% coming from the back. What we have to consider in the aging of the laminate top is not only the top itself but more importantly the bracing which almost surely is solid wood and will age and effect the top movement and therefore the tone. A solid top will just age more drastically!

There was a luthier that wanted to prove that the builder made the diffrence and not the woods. He constructed a wonderfull sounding guitar out of paper machet to prove the point!! I'll see if I can find the link and post it here...

I use the newer version of real player. It allows me to download any video or sound clip that I find on the web. Then it's just a matter of burning to dvd. If you don't use real player and don't want to install it, you can watch the video then go to your Temp files and pull it for burning that way but it's more complicated... I'd go with Real Player... It's free! You can even download music videos then change them to audio files for cd burning. Not that I'd do that... I believe in supporting the artist and buying the cd! -Pix

Thanks everyone!  Anymore?

Man it took some real searching but here you go http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mt … =mn0064349 It only gives you the first page for free but it's enought to work the song out. Looks like E A B for intro then it just goes between E and A. I'd guess, (I haven't listened to the song) that it goes back to B during breaks or other parts of the song. Should be pretty easy to pick out.. Hope it helps some... -Pix

Oh yea, I downloaded their veiwer for a better look and it's safe to use... No problems with the install, it only took about 5 seconds.
