While surfing on the web, I found this quote:

It sounds "unbelievable, here it is
- "COMING OUT OF DRUG REHAB, I REALIZED WHAT MADE SLASH SUCH A GREAT PLAYER, NOT THE DRUGS BUT THE FACT HE USED EXPENSIVE GEAR (GIBSONS and MARSHAL'S). The story continues:
- I FIGURED OUT IF I PICKED UP THIS BEAUTY, I WOULD BE 10 (TEN) TIMES BETTER THAN SLASH SINCE THE GUITAR COSTYA LITTLE BIT MORE THAN A GIBSON LES PAUL. And again the story continues:
- SO FAR I THINK IT'S WORKING. I PRACTICE 2 (TWO) HOURS A WEEK AND NOW I'M PLAYING SEVERAL OPEN-MIKES (I have no idea what open-mikes are) A YEAR THROUGHOUT THE CITY. ONE OF MY OLD "DEALERS" SAYS HE CAN HOOK ME UP WHENEVER HE WANT, I'M CONFIDENT HE MEANS HE HAS TIES TO THE RECORD LABELS. SO WATCH OUT, I'M GOING TO BE THE NEXT SLASH!

For me it is like that guy is probably representative for people using drugs, heroine in his case, to show you DRUG EFFECTS on your brain.

I found this quote, as comment on a MARTIN D-100 ($$$ between 80.000 and 100.000)
PLEASE, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I agree Ranger. It isn't all that simple. I am a "lucky bastard" to have a nice collection.I never started with the IDEA to start collecting guitars. I wrote it already a few times, it all started with a guy who needed money and he sold his Martin HD-28 for about $500. I had at that time a GIBSON LP Studio, thanks to a friend who was "chief" of customs on the airport. The guitar had some scratches and was not longer good to sell in a music store=$500. Had this for 2 years, but I worked 75 hours a week as medical doc. Some guitars are great, play great but mine, I had to tune her again after 2 songs, so I went to a music store, and changed it in 1996 I think for a 3 months old PRS, an unknown brand here in Belgium back then, getting for my guitar $800 = very good trading. I invested a lot of money to help starting friends with a music store, and like it is in 90% WHEN would I see my money back, so they paid me back in guitars, and before I knew I had more guitars than fingers. A guitar is so "personal", if you love playing a guitar, you want "that" sound, an easy- to - play guitar, a "child". Every guitar has pros and cons. I am since 3 years (already) 100% disabled, so my joy is now limited, social contacts are poor (being once a real "social animal"). About the guitars I mentioned, I have Gibson, Martin and PRS. About guitars, like Taylor, or Martin what's the real difference? I compared on zzounds a Martin D-41, D-42 and D-45, same wood, what is the difference. I also looked on youtube where they compared Martin, Taylor and Collings, the sound was very similar, they use the same wood. Is the sky the limit here? I don't know. What I do know that nothing in this world can help me, cure me. Chordie, all friends, they are great, and they gave me  purpose (dropping from 75h a week to ZERO is great, the first months) my guitars are a big support, also DVD's. I can only tell you that I can dream here, seeing some great looking guitars. Are they better? I don't know, maybe.
I am not unhappy AND THINKING IS THE WORST PROBLEM. Dreaming is different, you have no limits. But I really like what you wrote. Can you imagine that a GRETSCH WHITE PENGUIN NOT THE REISSUE is sold for 200.000$ and not by a musician. I read that these guitars, also a Gibson LP 1958-1960 > 150.000$ are often purchased as a trophee, to stand behind bullet proof glass? That's not me. I would lie if I told you that I am not interested in these for me unknown brands, I just don't know if I will have the opportunity to see, hear and hold one of these guitars in my hand.
This sounds maybe sad, but it's true.
Keep on rocking my friend

If you go to this link, you will find maybe more information.
http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mg … =GT0053536
The way they play that song, using the guitar and strings to "show" the melody line, is more or less the way I play.
When I play a song I try to
- Figure out the chords
- Once the chords are found, I play and (at least try to) sing that song.
- And, yes the tricky part is, trying to play the melody or a part of the melody using a chord, and while playing that chord, playing a string to "create" better "try to create" the melody.
I have a lot of time so I will find more.

dear ssttsst, what do you mean with "withdraw my previous endorsement of the Parkwood Guitar"
or as you wrote about sound, playability...
If you want, you can maybe send a few pictures, just mail me. I don't know much about "parkwood". What I do know is that most of the pawnshops are a lot more "managed in a professional way".This was one of my favourite stops while travelling, through the USA, wind through my hair (always convertible, mustang more expensive to rent, but it's worth every cent).
I have also the impression that little, medium and bigger pawnshops are not longer "independent"
but more and more in the hands of businessmen. AND they start to realise very wwell the price of a guitar. I would really love to talk about it.

I have a few Martin's, one of the BEST MARTINS is the MARTIN D-15, dark brown mahagony.
This isn't a guitar to put medium strings, the sound is really "feminine." This was my second Martin.
I had (and still have) a HD-28 (a "HE"), and then the D-15 (a "SHE"). It was quit funny, I lived on an apartment and that guitar lived and slept in my toilet room. Place enough, and the walls and floors of that little room reflected the sound. This is definitely one of the BEST GUITARS.
I looked on www.musiciansfriend.com and compared a MARTIN D-41, D-42 and D-45.
THE WOOD USED IS IDENTICAL, BACK, SIDES and a SPRUCE TOP.
So where is the difference?

Thanks a lot TEX. I didn't play at all the guitars brands like Huss and Dalton, Borges, McAllister, McPherson ....
These guitars seems to me VERY EXPENSIVE, and GREAT SOUNDING TOO. They are really "ART", using the best woods and as far as I could see, McAllister guitars they have only a few in stock, you just have to order one, and pick them up a few months later.
That is also the reason why I mention often youtube. If you are lucky you can see them, even better, hear them.

I post this topic here, because this is almost a "HOLIDAY"and a "SPECTACULAR SHOW TOO".
Where started the tradition to ask a POPULAR band or PERFORMER, to play and sing?
What is the function of CHEERLEADERS, from European side, it's a little bit ridiculous?
MOST AMERICAN SPORTS, LIKE FOOTBALL, WHY ARE THEY SO AGGRESSIVE?
This again an entirely different world compared to Europe.
Also the sports having their roots here.
- RUGBY ===> AMERICAN FOOTBALL
- CRICKET ==> BASEBALL
- BASKETBALL
- FORMULA I RACES ==> CHAMP CAR or INDY CAR
- ICE HOCKEY (Why so much violence?)
- So which is the MOST POPULAR SPORT?
- WHICH ARE THE BEST PAID SPORT MEN?
AGAIN A CULTURE CLASH IN THE US VERSUS EUROPE. I have it really difficult to understand, like all the movements, signs, spitting.. in Baseball + performance of famous artists & cheerleaders

Is the FENDER VG better?
- You can change a stratocaster sound into a telecaster sound and an acoustic.
Cheaper and good.

My Fender Cybertwin amp gives you a lot of different amps (of course most of them are Fender amps), when going from 1 amp to another, the knobs turn automatic to the sound of THAT amp you selected. I compared a Fender Twin Reverb SOUND with the Cybertwin TWIN REVERB SOUND, NO DIFFERENCE.
Maybe you consider that the Robotic Gibson is for lazy people, your opinion will change if you play a Robotic Gibson. The most annoying fact is that you play a few songs, and you need to tune it again. Following this "track", tuning devices are also for lazy people, claiming that they tune by ear. the ROBOTIC GIBSON IS A 100% GIBSON LES PAUL, having the same pick-ups.

Tuning a 12 string is not so difficult, but if you don't use a guitar tuner, it's sometimes so bad that you prefer to smash your guitar.
Tuners are cheap, some expensive too. I also noticed, having 2 tuners, and a few more on your floor board or your amp, that a guitar tuned with a tuner, and you plug it in a floorboard or another device that some strings are not tuned as they should be on your normal tuner.

I haven't a clue about this word.
The only thing that I know is, that slang refers to a certain words and that slang words or terms are often a metaphor or an allegory.
Slang terms: are frequently used in music too
WHY: To avoid social taboos such as sexuality, violence, crime and drugs, when singing.
Do Some of these words, written exactly the same, have an entirely different meaning?
Am I right if I say that a lot of people, use different words, when it's about SEXUALITY ?
Like using other words for "penis"?
Where are the slang specialists here. A Belgium band had a huge hit with a song:
"she goes nanana" a word used in the UK for "making love" (this word, even in my language, is the usual terminology, but if you read it you should be able to compare it with a factory where they make love!!!) big_smile   smile

Which of these 3 members of the BEATLES was the most skilled SONG WRITER.
George Harisson included. John & Paul were responsible for 75% of the songs. George is to me the MOST UNDERESTIMATE BEATLE, see SOMETHING, WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS, HERE COMES THE SUN.
A very important factor (but forgotten) was GEORGE MARTIN for the arrangements.
We can discuss a few points.
- AM I WRONG WHEN I TELL THAT THE COMPOSER, or JOHN or PAUL WAS SINGING HIS SONG?
- A SECOND POINT IS THE "MELODY" or tune.
1) Who was the best MELODY writer (without paying attention on lyrics)
2) Who wrote the BEST LYRICS
3) How did this "incredible songwriting team" function.
The Beatles songwriting was successful because of the highly memorable melodies
- EXAMPLE: John Lennon writes a song = MELODY + LYRICS
Paul McCartney writes a song = MELODY + LYRICS
A lot of people share the idea that PAUL's songs were better than John's songs
POST BEATLE PERIOD: Paul was very successful with "The Wings"but one of the most beautiful timeless songs is IMAGINE.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS THEORY?

A/ ACOUSTIC: the HIGH PRICED BRANDS.
- MARTIN
- TAYLOR
- SANTA CRUZ
- GIBSON
- COLLINGS (probably one of the best guitars)
Go to www.youtube.com and look for these 5 brands. Some videos compare 3-4 guitars.
RESULT: For me they really sound the same.
What about other more expensive brands?
I am NOT FAMILIAR AT ALL, NEVER SAW ONE and NEVER PLAYED ONE.
- HUSS and DALTON           JOHN ALLISON          JULIUS BORGES      MC ALLISTER (about these guitars, I believe they make one on demand price tag > 6000$, David Crosby has one.)
MCPHERSON (you can listen to the sound on their website) > 6000$       - FROGGY BOTTOM
PATRICK EGGLE (UK)            SERGEI DE JONGE up to 10.000$

Most of these guys started as repair men, and they have a tremendous skill to make MANUAL a great guitar.

My Gibson SG, is called essigie, my daughter's name is ESTHER, but I used to call her ESSIE. I use or ESSIGIE OR ESSIE.
And 1 Gibson is named Paul, after my father who left us (mother and 5 kids) too early ( °1928 and +1974). He was also a GENERALIST MD. I was only 18 years. My youngest brother who was 9 years old, is the one who thinks the most about my Father. Is this normal? We didn't see him often, he belonged to the "old school" of doctors, even on Sunday, he had consultation most for the farmers who returned from Church. It's so unfair, his dead. I always think about the fat Catholic priest who used to go to the people, RIGHT ON TIME TO EAT, people were honoured and he started to thank the Lord for giving US that food. What about Catholic people starving because they can't eat.

Hello G S E, your right about that. I didn't mention much about ELECTRIC GUITARS.
THAT is due to the fact that the sound produced by pick-ups goes to your amp and there it is: The sound, amplified.
I also use light to extralight on my electric guitars, sometimes it happens, because of not having an electric string, I use an acoustic string

- Are we talking about the first solid body electric guitar?.
-.Or just a guitar with a pickup mounted?

NO PICK-UP'S NO ELECTRIC.
To be heard better they "plucked" their strings, until one day are magnets wrapped with coils of very fine wire.
"hum", is particularly strong with single-coil pickups, using a frequency who had to match with a power system.
first application of a pickup to a guitar is uncertain but Loyd Loar who worked for Gibson from 1920 to 1924 (and is famous for his mandolins and arch tops) developed a pickup as far as I could find.
Who created the very first solid body? Gretsch Gibson Fender.
NOT WHO MANUFACTURED THE FIRST SOLID BODY?

BONEDADDY
What you wrote is true.
THE country to do this is ICELAND, a boy's name will end with ...Son, and a girl DOTTIR.
Also in RUSSIA, or in former Russian countries, someone like SHARAPOVA=girl's name, her brother will be SHARAPOV.

Some guitar players named their guitar, like BLACKIE (Eric Clapton's Fender)
What's the name of your guitar.
I use a name for some guitars like
- GIBBY for my GIBSON
- STRATIE for my Fender Stratocaster
- TV for my Telecaster

WHAT IS THE NAME YOU GAVE TO YOUR GUITAR?

I found this more than once on different websites:
What makes a guitar a guitar is the strings.
The quality of the strings in the guitar is one of the most important things that count.

A/ IS THIS TRUE?? AND IF IT'S TRUE WHAT ARE THE BEST STRINGS?
B/ ABOUT THE GAUGE: Is it true that the GAUGE of your strings ARE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT FOR THE SOUND? I read that when an acoustic guitar leaves the factory, they are equipped with 12-54 gauge.
Extra light: 10  14  22  28  38  48
Light: 12  16  24  32  42  52
Medium:  13   17   26   36   46   56
A Story: It happened more than once that I (preferring on acoustic Extra Light, changed a 22 by a 24) Don't know if this is important for the sound.
- MARTIN: equipped with MARTIN STRINGS.
But there are a lot more strings.
- GIBSON: comes with GIBSON STRINGS
I wanted to have your opinions about this "statement" SAME GUITAR, LIKE  MARTINS HD-28, equipped with MARTIN STRINGS, d'ADDARIO, ELIXIR (were voted as best strings). Some other brands are Dean Markley alchemy strings. NEVER HEARD OF THEM BUT GREAT COMMENTS

ABOUT COATED STRINGS: d'ADDARIO EXP and ELIXIR. Coated strings are meant for protecting the metal strings from oxidation. There is a solution to make from a normal string, a coated string with STRINGLIFE. The liquid string protectant chemically bonds with the metal of your strings and protects them from all the sweat and acids from your hands. You can apply it on your strings without harming the fretboard.
THIS IS SOME NICE INFORMATION, BUT I'D LOVED TO READ COMMENTS OR OPINIONS.

I am a compulsive or impulsive buyer. This me, all new "gadgets" I wanted them. My cover was my work: I worked up to 75 hours a week, I had a good running practice as MD, and I bought many things (I even put these in my income as expenses for taxes.), a certain moment PDA's, GPS systems, guitars, amps. Most of these I buyed after my car accident, having 2 cardiac arrests, and this had a big impact in my life, starting with a philosophy that you can DIE every moment.
I saw more seen than enough, in my practice, while working again, and I didn' care at all about guitars, amps.
Now, because I am disabled, and it gets worse month after month, I can only tell that I am blessed, having a whole collection. It's a lot more difficult now, (like a fight against 1 company), I'm too busy with "myself" BUT IF I HAD ENOUGH MONEY, or if I should still work, I would have both of them. It's really difficult, because I am a big spender.
About these guitars: YOU CAN COMPARE THEM ONLY WITH ONE BRAND= VARIAX (line 6).
The evolution the last 5 years is so HUGE, who could imagine that an AMP, like LINE 6 VETTA, or FENDER CYBERTWIN changed guitar world, having 200 different amps and effects in ONE AMP.
SEE FLOORBOARDS TOO.

Dear ZAX
As our fellow chordians wrote, it all depends on what you will do in the future.
I did never buy an amp < 100W. The reason was very remarkable: having a good friend, being supervisor for customs on Brussels National Airport, he had access everywhere and  became friends with the people who imported Marshall, Gibson, Music Hi Fi racks. I was his medical doc too, and I told him about a common friend, that he had a Gibson Custom Les Paul. 2 weeks later he called me if I was interested in a GIBSON LP Studio, 400$ and not longer good for music stores caused by some scratches. I ordered 2, sold 1 for 600$ to trade mine in a Music Store for 900$ and I left with PRS custom 24 (UNKNOWN BRAND HERE) in 1996. Same story: a Marshall Valvestate for 150$ at the same time: FANTASTIC: equipped for 550$.
Years later I was surfing on the web, saw a Fender Cybertwin, went to the Guitar store and came back with a Fender Cybertwin 2x65W see link www.kellyindustries.com/guitars/fender_amps_cybertwin.html
Last amp: A Marshall AS100D = acoustic amp, I wanted the 50W but they told me to compare. One chord later I left with 100W in stead of 50. Even playing at home, they all are > 100W.
Advantage? probably, $$$ yes, but that's my character, a kind of reward or compensation for working 75 h a week.
I will look on the web, giving you different amps, Watt and price.

Is there a rule from strumming or a definition?
What is the influence of strumming in a song, like down  down up up down up?
If you play down down down in stead of down up  down, is this important or "exaggerated"?

I preferred to make another topic,in addition to the other about music you don't like.
- About Rap and Hip Hop: there are really disgusting rappers. WHERE STARTED THE NAME OF "GANGSTA' RAP? It's funny, try to find in some of the lyrics of rappers a normal word.
The result will be 100 times worse than in my "Beep Song"
I hate your m**ng a** and *** with***.
I was thinking about the BEE GEES : Jive talking.
What is JIVE?
If you start thinking about languages, ORIGINATED from ENGLISH, it is amazing how the spoken "English" language changed, since the moment that BRITTANIA RULES THE WORLD era.
What is it with the British people, centuries ago? From the moment that they noticed that a country was in the hands of French speaking people, or DUTCH (having for at least 100 years a monopoly concerning trading with other countries. Canada = besides the natives, A lot of French people lived there and were master too in that country. South Africa = DUTCH ruled.
Every single "colony" like India, but here more specific countries occupied by non-brittish resulted in battles. This is still a mystery. See the USA, if it wasn't because of the money needed for France, your mother tongue would be probably French.
THIS BRINGS ME AGAIN ON MUSIC, ESPECIALLY LYRICS AND LANGUAGES.
- Reggae: Who can understand what they are singing, a specific accent.
- CAJUN : a kind of French + some English? Where started that music?
- CANADIAN ROCK like RUSH, NICKELBACK, BRYAN ADAMS: Is there a difference between US ENGLISH AND CANADIAN ENGLISH?
This is probably not the most easy topic, but I am fascinated by songs and lyrics of all the former and actual British Colonies.
