Re: question for vintage Gurus/Snobs (16 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Hand wound pick-ups versus mass produced pick-ups accounts for the majority of tonal diffrence. I don't see much diffrence in fit and finish. The wood is also a contributing factor. The best grade of mahogany (or other woods) that are used today would have been trashed back in the 50's. The timber available/used today by companys (some private luthiers still have a stock pile of the good stuff) is generally farmed, cut from younger trees or from the older stumps and just doesn't measure up tonally...

I don't have the full tab... I play it more by ear but could tab out the intro riff for ya if that would help... The riff is played at diffrent parts throughout the song... Or I could do a quick up close vid of it and send it to you if that would help. -Pix

After I get the songbook organized I'm going to edit the songs to include a basic strumming pattern. So if you know the one for the song you recommend feel free to add it with your post. If not I'll work them out...Thanks! -Pix

Topic: Even a 6 yr. old gets it... (a little pre-debate political humor) (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I was talking to a friend's 6-year old daughter, and she said she wanted
to be President some day.
Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, as I asked
her, 'If you were President, what would be the first thing you would
Do?'
She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless
people.'
'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait
until
you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull
weeds, and rake my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over
to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give
him the $50 to use toward food or a new House.'
She thought that over for a few seconds 'cause she's only 6. And while
her Mom glared at me, the little girl looked me straight in the eye and
asked, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you
can just pay him the $50?'
And I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party .'
Her parents still are not speaking to me!

Re: How do you read chord? (2 replies, posted in Acoustic)
DDUUD works well for this song... Play that pattern on every chord. Try playing it along with the song to get your rythym. This songs Intro is also quite easy to play and fun to pick. I'll see if I can find an accurate tab of it to post for ya! -Pix

Topic: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration.. (54 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I was just reading a post requesting easy songs.... and we usually tell the newer members to just check the songbooks and offer 1 or 2 of our own recommendations. We tend to get a lot of requests for this! So I'm proposing that every one leave a recommendation or 2 here with a link to an accurate tab from chordie and I'll compile them all into a songbook. Doing it this way should give us a wide range of music and hopefully a very usefull songbook for beginners. Keep in mind that most of the fellow chordians asking for this are beginners so lets keep them real simple. Easy to sing is also something to keep in mind. Most of the people using these will ,probably, be cutting their teeth on doing both at the same time. -Pix

If you're looking for really good deal on a uke try doing a search for Amigo ukulele. You'll find Solid spruce topped ukes for around $35!! I think they're the best value on ukuleles out there. I'd compare it very closely with the solid top $180 Oscars. I use one for a beater and keep my '64 martin baritone at home. Just my .02.. -Pix

Re: Kid Rock song (6 replies, posted in Song requests)
The basic D C G progression works fine for the chorus where he's playing the riff from "Sweet Home Alabama" but for the verses it doesn't work all that well. In them he's playing a Warren Zevon riff from "Werewolves of london". I usually play it like this
----------------------------------------------------------------------|
----------------------------------------------------------------------|
----------------------------------------------------------------------|
-9-7--7---7-5--5-5-------------------------------------------------|
-5-5--5---3-3--3-3--5-5-7-5---------------------------------------|
-----------------------3-3-3-3---------------------------------------|
If you look at the chords it's still basically a DCG progresion but just sounds more authentic IMO...-Pix

Hey Marcalan, I'm not sure what your running but try this... When on the song page, left click and drag over the lyrics and chords (be sure to move over and highlight the diagrams also) Then Right click and select print preview if it doesn't show the chord diagrams at first then look at the top of the page and you should have an option for it to display as selected on page. This will bring up only what you had highlighted and if you covered the chord boxes they should pop up and be printable... I do all my print outs this way as it also allows you to shrink to fit on one page or enlarge text if you have trouble reading it. Hope it helps! -Pix

Capo 2nd fret ( all chords relative to capo) A E Fm D That's pretty much the whole song... the last line of the verse you change from D to Dm7 With a slide. All chords are played in Barre. If you need, I'll throw together a quick tutorial for you and post it in the chordians youtube group. It's a great song and fairly easy to play... -Pix

Re: Dressing up a Martin D18! (4 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I think the tortoise pickguard would be a nice touch along with some fancier end pins for the strings...mine are black with an abalone dot. I also like your idea of Gold tuners... I don't know how you would gloss the headstock...I wonder if some sort of clear coat would work? Something that would add the gloss without covering up the Martin logo and such...
I'm pretty sure I can just buff out the satin to a gloss without having to add any more finish. Thinking probably gold groover or waverly gold open back tuners would look nice. I'm thinking white ivory pins to bring out the rosette but I'm not sure what kind of inlays/dots to go with. Thanks for the input! -Pix
