Howdy and Welcome to Chordie!
It is nice to have another Northwesterner among the ranks! Papaguitar is correct, Cottage Grove is just down the freeway from me here in Corvallis..... all my Beaver Alum Buddies will likely beat the crap out of me for saying this, but How About Them Ducks!!!
I also dabble in building instruments, and would like to see what you've done and perhaps compare notes and ideas one of these days. Kinda envy our friends back East for being so close that they can get together fairly regularly and jam.... out here we are are all spread out in the big country and it would be difficult to arrange a big gathering. But you never can tell, it'll get onto summertime before you know it.
Keep your spirits high, and your powder dry.

Howdy! Welcome to Chordie (as I haven't made it around to that yet this evening).
Hit the "Artists" tab at the top of the page and you will want to go to M under "Misc. Christmas"..... In there you will find something like 7 versions of the tune listed and I'm sure one of those will be similar to what you have learned so far. If not, you can change the key up or down in the transpose box on the right side of the screen to get it into the chord signature you are using.
Again welcome to the largest and possibly friendliest guitar site on the net, happy to see you are making yerself to home.

Hi Russell,
You might also run an application called Spin Rite to make sure the drive is in good shape as well before loading all the files back on it. I think it is a freely available app that you can google.
Most drive manufacturers require that you run some sort of verification process on drives suspected of being defective and I have one from Western Digital that actually re-sectors the drive and puts it back to factory new specs. Then runs speed tests and media verifications..... if the drive won't pass that one, it's junk and gets replaced or warranted.
Good Luck and hope you are up and running again real soon!

Hey
Russell!
Devon mentioned something about you having drive troubles..... You might just consider replacing the hard drive if everything else is still running without problems. Drives are not that spendy these days. On a brighter note though, it's another thing to add to your "Santa" list.

Sorry Bro..... Nothing but a big black screen of nothing. I'm thinking it's a Beta Crash Site!
Anyway it's got my curiosity peaked so I'll check back from time to time for a look-see.

Hi Leclercm and Welcome to Chordie!
From your post, I'm going to assume "YUK" is a phonetic spelling for UKE as in Ulelele...... small 4 stringed acoustic instrument of suspected Hawaiian origin.
If you will check out the guitar music listings for a particular band or tune you are seeking, and change the type of instrument over on the right side of the display. You can change the chords to Ukelele and the tuning to possibly get the result you are looking for. The chords should be the same name for whatever instrument you play, but the charts might not be exact matches depending on your tuning.
Hope that helps, and again Welcome Aboard!

Welcome Aboard!
You'll find a lot of us hanging out around here, so make yerself right at home..... at least speaking as another aging hippie type.
Did you find the tune you were searching for? Also make note of the transposition feature on the site as it makes it easier to change key and select alternate instruments (at least the common stringed ones).
Not everyone around here has the guitar as primary instrument though, there are a few keyboarders, dulcimers, drummers, bassists, fiddlers, and yes a few brass blowers. Still trying to figure out what that trombone is doing sitting over in the corner of my music room...???? It showed up about thirty years ago, about the time the wife moved in. I dust it once in awhile but really don't know what kind of sound it makes, haven't been able to get the little woman to pull it out of the case.

Of Course it is!
But opinions vary.... and most posts are speaking from practical experience, so are of good value compared to some salesman's spiel.

I too don't like heights! Fell off a balcony as a child.... but took up rock climbing as a young adult. We climbed just about every pitch in Joshua Tree National Monument.
BUT I wouldn't do that job for any wage! A base jumping chute should be a part of the safety harness. If it was a rock climbing exercise, the guy below would be locked on and handling your belay, so if you took a peel you would only fall a reasonable distance.

Welcome to Chordie!
I get the beach reference, but what about Lake Mead? Boating, fishin', water skiing, and something like a beach with a lot less surf and no Sharks. Good memories of Vegas, although it's been a few years.

Well I managed to get through all them vids without any ill effects! Actually you guys seem to have had a fine time of it and sounded a lot better than some rehersals I've been to.
I'll keep my eyes out for a good deal on a tour bus for when you decide to take it on the road while I'm down in Arizona next month.
Nice Job Fellas & Guest!

I think this was written by David Foster and Boz Scaggs, released on Boz's Harbor Lights Album and used in the film Urban Cowboy in 1980.
Somewhere in my archives I have the original score from the album, but I also do not find it here on Chordie under Foster or Scaggs.
My copy (if I can find it) is a piano score, so not much use to guitarists unless you are musically inclined that way. Good song though, and I'm sure it is out there somewhere.... If I find it I'll send you the link.
Good Hunting!
Doug
Well it is nice to know that somebody had a good experience with him..... there are a lot of poor reviews out there!
Welcome to Chordie, and we are hoping that your playing improves, although you don't sound as if Claude's course did much for your skills after three months. A majority of the members have nice things to say about Justinguitar.com however, and his courses are free on youtube.
There are lots of resources here on Chordie and a huge membership that are willing to encourage you in your musical journey. So jump right in and introduce yourself on the chat corner forum.... Welcome Aboard!

Sperzel machines don't use a screw mount, but they are a locking type tuner that might fit your guitar. It is wise to check the specs to make sure they will fit without having to do any woodwork etc.
They are a high quality machine and not inexpensive at around $60 a set from StewMac.

Bolleauxp, I hear ya man! On this side of the pond you are required to have an electrician change light bulbs (in a commercial setting) and a Limited Energy License to run optical fibre. It's a sad state of affairs when you have a plumber install a water heater and he has to wait for an electrician to do the wire connections so he can check the unit and adjust the t-stat. If I ever have to take out a permit to replace a cracked switchplate, I'll leave the country!

To my mind, Acoustic is Acoustic.... A/E guitars should sound as good un-plugged as amplified.
BUT, when you are shopping and have a budget, find the best sounding guitar you can in your price range and don't let the lack of a pickup dissuade you from the purchase. Some time down the road it is possible to install a pup without breaking the bank. My personal favorite is K&K Sound's Pure Mini at around $125 US. Put a set in a Taylor and it sounds as good or better than the Factory Installed option at considerably less cost.
As usual I am also going to stress that you put your own paws on as many as you can, and play all the candidates. Sometimes you will find a real sweet sounding instrument that fits you well without spending as much as you planned. So shop around!

I'm with Zurf on this one, Gold and Silver are fairly malleable unless as an alloy with something tougher. I did run across a guy who managed to make a bridge and nut out of Agate which seemed to have a nice tone.... which got me to thinking about glass as a possible substance once ground and cut, tempered to prevent chipping. I know a glassblower, next time I see Bert I'll inquire.

Greetings Artless,
Replacing the saddle and pegs without doing the same with the nut, is not uncompromising..... thrifty perhaps.
Re-doing the fretboard inlays and details of the rosette, might be bordering on pretentious though. I'm thinking that ancient Ivory is harder than the hubs of hell and will cost a bit of time or money to get done, but should really sound sweet!

Howdy Steve and Welcome Aboard!
Just guessing here, but it wouldn't be Ireland would it?? We've a few Chordians in the Emerald Isles that you might be hearing from or get to know if you stick around awhile.
Any rate, it is always nice to hear from new members, and you will find we are a friendly lot and helpful as well.
Once again Welcome.

In any production run you will encounter "blems". However, they will usually be graded as such in the final inspection and sold as such with deep discounting. I say that with the gouge in mind however..... as for the finish cracking, it might be just that the environment they were transported in or stored was not stable enough and those defects developed after GC had purchased them.
There is no way of knowing for sure without getting the serial numbers and checking with the factory. Anything sent out as "seconds" would have records to support them.
Good catch though, and another reason it is always best to get your paws on any instrument that you are thinking of buying before you lay your hard earned $$ down.

Be good Russell, do what the Doctors and Nurses tell ya.... and try to keep track of the button for the CAD pump. It looks like the one to page the nurse's station, but triggers the pain killers. I about put myself into a drug induced coma trying to get a cup of coffee the morning after my surgery. Luckily I was able to locate the nurse's lounge by following the smell of fresh brewed..... but they caught me when I went back to brew another pot!
Get some rest,

I see that you have been a member for awhile, and posted this in a couple of places.
Do you know who wrote it or recorded it to aid in the search?
The more info you can provide, the better we are at finding what you are looking for..... even a few words of a lyric line might get you in the area. There have been a few tunes based on her story and it is hard to determine which one you are after specifically.
Take Care,
Doug
Howdy and nice to hear from you!
I've noticed some lag recently, but only sporatically. The site was off-line for a couple of days about a week ago (I assume for some technical issues) but I believe the gremlins have been defeated..... so don't give up on us! Admin does this as a hobby in addition to a full time job, so we are patient and thankful for the great site it is, and all the moderators and members that contribute their time and efforts so freely.
Hang in there & Take Care;
Doug
