Nearly time to rock the beach again ,had the last rehearsal last night awesome !!!!! some new songs some old ones .

Got to go with dino on this one defiantly bluesy but with a slant towards a jazzy feel would be nice to hear it played by tig
I play a stagg electric mandolin which is a starter model but it is very good and sounds great.I lowered the action by filing down the bridge and changed the strings to 9s which made it a whole lot easier to play .it's quite stable and stays in tune we'll costs about 65 pounds on amazon .
Doug's idea of the pleasure planet sounds good
where's the venue ?
Thanks guys I'm sure one day we will have a chance to get together.
Maybe one day I'll get to California Dino .
As I will be heading back to the uk for the winter again this year I would like to get a band together for the time I'm there so if any one living in the Area from Skipton to Kendal is interested in playing drums, bass or rhythm drop me a line . Blues R+B rock n roll .
Dave you say about confidence ,don't worry you are doing this for you , when you perform just do it for you and enjoy it ,your enjoyment will transfer to the audience ,this will help with confidence .
My friend Steve Share a photographer here on Crete just sent me this photo he took at one of our gigs ,If I was a solo artist I would love to use it as a poster

Sadly here in Crete the artist can also get a hefty fine if the bar is unlicensed luckily it doesn't happen mutch
Well done Dave ,its great to get a resident spot it really helps when you are trying to build up a following ,folks know where you will be and come to see you .We had have been house band at a couple of bars over the last few years and its great .certainly here where you get a regular change of audience in the resort ,however in the town bar we found it good to keep expanding our repertoire so as not to get stale .I know one or two guys who churn out the same set and the regulars soon start to complain so its good to vary the set and add one or two new ones to the favourites . As Tyson said if you have an audience who talk a lot try and make contact with one or more and it will spread ,it can be a little disconcerting to think you are up there playing your heart out and every one talks ,They talk because its a social thing ,they are listening so don't be put off just enjoy your time in the spotlight .
Amy the 57 is mainly for instruments .as a rule of thumb I say backing singers about 6 inch away lead singer up the Mic as close as it takes

this link does a blind comparison on strad to new interesting results. Scroll down past the photo listen to the two sound bites and read the results .
I have always tended to shy away from big brand names although I have some reasonably expensive guitars in my collection I find that the cheaper brands can often be as good . A case in example is when I wanted a semi acoustic ES 335 type I chose 3 similar guitars the Gibson es335 the epiphone dot 335 and the vintage vs535 I spent an afternoon with the 3 in the shop and came away with the Vintage which was considerably cheaper than the others ,Why .... because it played better ,sounded better and was cheaper ,had the Gibson been better I would have bought that despite the huge price difference ,
Finaly managed to cut the neck off a wine bottle with out problems ,I used a dremmel tile cutting disc

I just had some minor cleaning up of the sharp edges with a small grind stone , works a treat and much cheaper than 10 pounds for a Dunlop one
this has happened 3 or 4 times lately ,I have a pretty good connection here in Crete via satellite every thing else worked fine .I have also noticed the amount of spam on the forum has gone stupid today .
Is it just me or has any one else had problems getting on Chordie over the past couple of days ?
Amy for what its worth we use 2 acoustic instruments in our set Brian has a mandolin with a contact pickup ,and I use an Ovation acoustic with an under bridge Fishman pick up both of these we just connect into the PA with Di boxes this is the best way we have found , sure the sound can get a little colored but its live and you wont ever get it as good as in the studio , its something you have get used to . Ive seen so many bands prat about with sound checks trying to replicate studio sound . we spent 6 hours last year waiting for one lot to get off stage .As long as you can hear what you are playing and singing and what your other band members are doing then go with it . Your on stage sound wont be what the audience hear .Our sound guy Vassilis always gets the mix that the audience here good so if you have a good guy on the desk trust him to do his job ,it takes away a lot of the stress of performing live .
terrific ,great picking too love the bass line , are you playing in an alternate tuning ?

Our publicity shot
Dino its much better now and it sounds so much brighter
Over the past couple of years Ive been trying to play a bit of mandolin and always found it difficult to press the strings down ,However today I tried a set of extra light strings .Much better and easier .Ive noticed on other forums guitar players complain of the same thing ,get a set of 9's on and you'll be amazed at the difference .
