Ok ... my attempt at a Chris Cornell song, called 'Be Yourself'. I did a quick recording this afternoon as once again a busy day. It is definitely nothing like the original but as I can`t possibly imitate him so I made it my version. Think I already mentioned, I actually don`t know his music, but do some of it now. A great line up for JULY`s FSOTM chosen by two of our Chordie members.
We have HARRY CHAPIN, a wonderful singer/songwriter chosen by beamer and A PIRATE LOOKS AT 40 chosen by Baldguitardude.
HARRY CHAPIN
You can perform ANY SONG you like as long as it is a HARRY CHAPIN SONG. A couple of suggested songs from Harry Chapin that beamer suggested were Sequel, Taxi or Cats in the Cradle but they are just suggestions ... you can pick ANY of his songs.

This song has been chosen by Baldguitardude who was our second winner this month to choose a song for July`s FSOTM. Another great song written by Jimmy Buffett and performed by a few other well known names, Ian McNabb, Jack Johnson, Roger Creager, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez
From Wikipedia: "A Pirate Looks at Forty" is a song written and performed by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was first released on his 1974 album A1A and "Presents to Send You" is the B-side of the single.
Buffett wrote the song about Phillip Clark, at the Chart Room where Buffett first performed after his move to Key West, Florida.[1] The song contains the bittersweet confession of a modern-day, washed-up drug smuggler as he looks back on the first 40 years of his life, expresses lament that his preferred vocation of piracy on the high seas was long gone by the time he was born, and ponders his future.

This crossed my mind today after reading Tig`s comment in the Suggested FSOTM for July and Tig mentioned he had the privilage of meeting Harry Chapin and his brother at a school function. Tig mentioned this because that is one of the artists that has been chosen by beamer for this months July FSOTM.
I thought to myself, now that is pretty cool as I like Harry Chapin`s music and its not something that most people get to do, is to meet famous or well known musicians.
So it got me to thinking, who here has had the pleasure of rubbing shoulders, meeting a famous or well know musican? Who, Where, How did you meet them? Tell us your encounter story
Ok, we are going back to COVERING ERA`S. So far we have covered the 60`s, 70`s, 80` and 90`s.
This time we are looking for Two Song Suggestions from the following Era`s. ONE SONG from 1950`s and ONE SONG from 2000 - 2010 Era.
So, it`s going to be really interesting to hear some OLDIES and some NEW MODERN songs.
As usual, you can pick your favorite artist, band, genre, what ever you fancy!
For those of you that don`t want to perform or cover a song, you can still enter this and put in your suggestions that you would like to hear covered by our members.
All Suggestions will get Pulled Out Of The Hat at the end of the month to decide which two songs get chosen.

Well done once again Jim and Phill, I just had a listen. I am a bit like Peatle, I wasn't expecting to hear it performed this way (not sure how I expected to hear it ).... but good on you for trying something different. What programme have you used on it Phill? it kinda had an echo effect and almost made it sound like it was going around and around the echo effect.

mojo ....I haven`t even heard of Chris Cornell and I am going to have ago lol ............. I was meant to go pick one the other night of his to attempt but it didn`t work out as ended up with a sick grandchild. So hoping tonight to attempt one of his if i get the chance. As for Bobby Mcgee, might try it again but hmmmmm can`t seem to nail the end bit, might have to just leave it out. Don`t want to deafen ya all with my screeching to hit the notes lol. Oh yeah and my guitar and or ukulele playing leaves a lot to be desired I have decided *sigh*

great idea. If you want to organise it, by all means go for it. You would have to organise someone who can do the backing track, the song, the people who want to perform in it, get the backing track to all the participants so they can record themselves singing to it and get them all to send their singing back to the person who you have organised to put it all together etc. It could work, would be fun, but would take a bit of orgainsing which i haven`t got time to organise at the moment .... but if your happy to organise this idea of yours, go for it. When it is ready to go, we could put it up as a FSOTM.
I've already had the opportunity to pick one...let someone else.

it doesn`t really matter if you have entered your name before, as there have been a few people put their name in before and have been lucky enough to be choosen to pick a song more than once .... it really is just the luck of the draw on whose name comes out of the hat. Makes it more interesting as well when there are more names to put in the hat
Wow Team New Zealand! .....for any of you that follow the America`s cup, what a day! New Zealand`s win of the race and this cup, very exciting for our boys and our nation. They raced superbly, their boat was fast, the team worked together brilliantly, well done! Condolences to the American`s of course but feeling excited for our boys, Team New Zealand
