Cheers Jim thanks for the nice words.  I was actually commenting about the photo of the house that EB put up on Soundcloud with the song.  I think EB wrote his song about two guys meeting after 50 years who use to live on the same street. EB would have to verify that is what the story behind his song is.   Max Dorset who use to own that house in the photo was an interesting eccentric character, Every day he would take the train into the city to go for a swim, he did that right up to the day he couldn't any more.
Dorset shot his wife's lover, George Grandison, as the adulterous couple tried to leave the house. Witnesses described him running to their car and firing three shots through the window. The car crashed into a telegraph pole and Grandison died soon after. They were about to take off together - it had reached that stage,  Dorset had been aware it was going on for some time . . . they were a bit blatant about the whole thing.
Dorset faced murder charges. The defence aimed to have him found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Dorset told his lawyers about a concealed stash of love letters between his wife and Mr Grandison hidden on the property.
A junior defence counsel,  and a clerk were sent to find them.
Sure enough, a tobacco tin with the letters in it was exactly where he said it would be.
The letters were not produced at trial because the defence did not want Mr Dorset to take the stand.
Dorset was portrayed as a man pushed to breaking point by the end of his relationship.
He went to great lengths to get her back - he went looking for her in Australia where she had gone with Mr Grandison before the shooting. He was wandering the streets of Sydney and Melbourne looking for her.
In the end, the jurors' sympathy won out. It took them half an hour to find Dorset guilty - of manslaughter.
Justice Gresson seemed equally moved by Dorset. He sentenced him to just one year in prison..
I don't know what happened to Mrs Dorset, and it was said said he never spoke to Dorset again after the verdict.
After serving his sentence, Mr Dorset returned to the house and became a well-known eccentric, given to sunbathing naked on the front porch.
He died in 2011. I am sure Mr Dorset story would make a good folk song.

EB you wrote a good folk song there with nice guitar picking and vocals.   Eb that house down in Glenside in your photo on soundcloud with your song was owned by a Mr.Dorset. He achieved some notoriety in 1956 when he shot dead his wife’s lover George Grandison as Grandison and Mrs Dorset were leaving that house together. The shooting took place on the road outside the property. Mr Dorset was charged with murder, but his (relatively) successful defence of the act as a crime of passion saw him convicted of manslaughter instead, and he served one year in prison. Later in his life Mr Dorset attracted the reputation as an eccentric, sitting naked on his porch in full view of passing trains. He died early in 2011, and the house has since been sold. Herbert Dorset (known as Max Dorset) purchased the house and farm on 241 acres , in 1947 for £1500. He fought as a seaman with the Navy during World War Two and prior to this farmed at Silverstream and worked as a civil servant in the War Pensions Department. After purchasing the property he ran cattle on the land and continued to work for the Pensions Department. In 1951 part of the farm was taken for the Wellington-Foxton motorway. Mr Dorset was paid £1 per acre for the land and 10 shillings per tree lost. For our American friends a Kiwi Pound was worth about two dollars and ten shillings was round about a dollar.

Good one Roger the Sally Army do a fantastic community service world wide. Even though we are not Salvation Army we have been  volunteers for the Sallys in some of their community programmes.  Maree and I have seen some of  the good things they do in the community. Wthout them the world would be a worse place.

Cheers Phill I did  have that idea in my head circulating of what I assumed the Beatles and Pink Floyd had when the psychedelic acid  trip thing was going on in their circles of influence.

Bill my friend I am glad the video worked. I like the idea of using simple and cheap tech to make something that is visual and hopefully  a soundtrack  that works..

Thank you Jim, I was trying to get that late 60's early  70's spaced out vibe some of the idea also  partly inspired by David Bowie.

Beamer I can hear the  Pete Townshend influence. With a drummer and a bass player you would have a perfect way to fill out that riff.

Cheers EB and TF  for your interesting thoughts. Every political party has it own clever rhetoric around employment, income, health, education, and housing. Political leaders are great at ridiculing the opposition with the eloquance of a snake oil salesman. Sensationalization in the mass media to me has been born out of less objective journalism in favour of a profit motive. Then we have unreliable polls telling us this is what public opinion is about or what percent has been affected by  whatever. This political party will win or its leader is the most popular. Also  we have the  them and us breaking down social cohesian. I believe this mentality, even though I have never known or spoken to any of them but they have to be no good because they aren’t us. That idea is bad because it comes from the left or the right. We are constantly been marketed to but not always given all the information needed to form a opinion due to press hype. Finding a way to get people singing from the same choir sheet is  sometimes built on misinformation. No wonder simple folk like me find it hard to decide who to vote for or what to believe.

Cheers everyone thank you for your comments. The Booker Prize for Fiction is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel written in the English language and published in the United Kingdom. I was chatting about this with a retired journalist who mentioned to me that one of the judges listed as part of their criteria for a good novel is it should be ideologically correct. It seemed to me that " Ideologically Correct"  was an inflexible concept that I would associate with North Korea or Stalinist Russia and Mao’s China. That got me thinking about what stops everyday people from putting  their true thoughts into words and then delivering them out into the world. Pondering that is when I came up with the poem. These Words.

These Words.

The words of politicians are they different to the poet?
That dagger of blaming and shaming.
Words bound to hit potholes.
A paranoid moment causing me to  leave words parked up in the driveway.
In the activity of communication what’s meant to be amusing now transformed.
Do we evaluate others by what we think their words mean?
Do previous scars strangle words sent with good intentions?
Are  the right words sometimes too elusive to find.
I guess like many things it’s all in the mind.

One of my favourite shops here in  Wellington is Alistair's Music. all sorts of musicians pop in just to play music and just have a chat Here is Alistair and his friend Sarah  playing a beautiful looking Mandoline similar to yours in his shop. He also restores all sorts of string instruments such as the Russian Style Mandolin he is playing which had been repaired back to life.

I have been practising making videos just using my laptop MP4 editor . I did this one the other day of a song I put together called Tune Will Come.  As usual song just  recorded on my cellphone. I guess I would describe it as a simple attempt  at  something sort of Prog Rock.
