Sweet ... thanks bro I'll have to check it out since Barrechords still irritate the hell out of me

A buddie of mine was learning Dust in the Wind and he's into the finger picking now ... he likes it alot ... it does sound amazing though ... was it hard for you to learn the picking ?

Doc

I haven't tried any of the other Les Pauls so I can only tell you about my Studio ... I love it ... the Classic Rock tones I get are amazing ... plus I can still get a descent Heavy Metal sound when I play (it sounds great with Iron Maiden songs) ... I honestly play it more for my metal stuff than I do my Schecter ... it's probably one of the most versatile guitars out there in regards to the sound ... I'm not sure if its specifically from the Alnico's or if its the make/style of the guitar

I did notice a difference in sound when I tried out the Epiphone Les Paul ... the Gibson sounded so much more livelier to me ... I know the Studio is considered just that, a Studio version that guitarists use for studio recordings; stripped down, no frills, the "working mans" Les Paul ... what's the difference in the Customs, Supremes?

These are the guys I love ... not necessarily the best in the world but I love how they play

Steve Harris - Iron Maiden
Geddy Lee - Rush
Stuart Hamm - Satriani
Flea - RHCP
Not sure I have a number 5 hmmm

Jerome ... I agree on Buckethead!

Hey Russ ... I know you normally dont do covers ... but alot of songs I love such as Silent Lucidity by Queensryche or Dust in the Wind by Kansas sound simply amazing ... I imagine you do picking songs like that yes?

Pix ... I might have to look into Fly Me Courageous ... love that song but I've never looked at it for playability ... but in regards to Straight To Hell, a co-worker of mine came over to play (he plays bass) and me and my buddie jammed with him (he usually only plays heavy metal) ... we had him try out that song while we played acoustics and he loved it ... now he said he plays that one all the time lol

That is just so wrong South on many, many levels lol

Lol Zurf ... you pay way too much attention to his minstruations!!!

Russ ... that was the nice side of my sarcastic humor ... you should see what happens when I remove the restaints tongue

Lol ... sweet ... I'll have to check out Less Than Jake ... I remember hearing the name but never "heard" them before ... Dropkick Murphys is another Punk Rock band ... though they're a little more "hard core" than SD ... I listened to a few songs of their's today and I'll download em when I get home ... I remember when I first heard "Ruby Soho" from Rancid tongue

Wow ... you'd definitely like them smile  http://www.socialdistortion.com/

They're the punk rock mode ... I had never listened to them before one of their songs turned up on Guitar Hero and I fell in love with em ... listen to "Story of My Life" and "Don't Take Me for Granted" ... you wont be sorry smile

Guitarpix ... how many hours are in your day bro?!? lol ... that's a darn Woodstock show!  But I like the Drivinn N Cryin ... they are AWESOME for modern rock/acoustic type stuff ... alot of peeps dont know about them ... they remind me alot of The Black Crowes type stuff ... "Straight to Hell" is my fav or "Lets Go Dancing"

Tibernius ... what's Ska-Punk?  Is it skater punk?  You must love Social Distortion then ... I love they're songs ... I worked on five songs this weekend that came out great smile

Zurf ... so you play alot of Steelers Wheels, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Segar type stuff?

I still can't play Barre Chords so for all my Acoustic sets it's all open chords (Major, minors, 7ths) ... for my electric stuff I maily stay on Power Chords for everything ... I just now realized that I can apply them to any Major Chord formation ... I'm just glad I haven't encountered songs that I need to figure a PC formation for a 7th, etc

Nice to meet you silverspoons =-)  Welcome to the Chordie family!

I know everyone has a prefered style they love to play, i.e. Acoustic guitar - Open Chords, Barre Chords, Finger Picking, classic acoustic playing ... Electric guitar - Open Chords, Solo'ing, Barre Chording, Power Chords, etc. ... and then there's the genre you love to play, i.e. Classic Rock, Country, Folk, Metal, etc

What style do you like to play?  What genre do you love playing the most?

Russ

I think it's in reference to, "Ok, where did they go?  I know they were here a minute ago?" or option two:
"Ok, I just hit that high note.  Let me see if they're still there."

Great advice Ken ... also Erin if you do a YouTube search I'm sure you'll find someone doing a cover of the song on acoustic ... and you can watch to see how they do it ... alot of times if I'm trying to figure out a song I'll pull up the tab here and then do a YouTube search to see if it applies

I think I'll have to YouTube him

lol Zurf ... I always wondered why people are always so down on Ohio

I agree geo ... a "hybrid" was born where it was incorporated into alternative/rap genre ... Rage is a great example as well Linkin Park (whom I love) ... some earlier attempts by Korn and Limp Biskit did the same thing (which I don't like)

lol Alvee .... now early 80's rap when it first started ... I actually liked ... it was only about "getting paid, making money, getting women" ... now it's about "rollin' in da hood, smackin ma b$*tch up, shootin' it up"

But yeah I'd have to agree with Alvee ... it's just not good ... and there's no musical talent whatsoever unless you call  being a cult hero on the mixing table talent

Wow that's pretty slick Rus ... at least you heard it hit lol ... I was expecting the same thing with what I saw but heard nothing ... so I didnt know if what I saw was a meteor or something else *input the X-Files theme song*

LOL SouthPaw!

Agreed mixter ... Old MoTown is a perfect example of R & B ... anything from the 60's/70's is a great example ... My personal favorite is Marvin Gaye ... phenomenal R & B singer

I have a $499 Takamine, and a $299 Ibanez ... the very first acoustic I bought was Yamaha that they sold at the local NEX (Navy Exchange Store) ... it was a combo pack that cost $199 ... full-body acoustic ... no electronics ... no guitar strap mounts either ... Oddly my friend noticed this first ... whenever I play this particular acoustic, he says it sounds so much better than my other acoustics ... and I have to agree ... the cheapest guitar out of all of them sounds beautiful and much better than my other ones ... and with the Elixir Nano's on it it sounds beautiful

I guess price doesnt always mean the best ... sometimes even the cheapest guitar can sound better than a $1000+ guitar
