this time of year an old advesary returns, just when it's nice enough to open the windows. I wrote this last year and dug it out of moth balls..silly little piece of irony
Living in Peace with a Mockingbird mcvicker 2008
[ a political novella]
Oh, the rhetoric, all day and all the night long.
The different pitch; not a different song.
The same old bird…. with their dirty looks.
Preaching to the choir, from the same old books.
After midnight I thought, “How do I, get peace?
Do I try to understand this? To gain release?
Do I give to this monster, the things he demands?
Only to find him one mile closer, to where I stand.
Do I scream at him? Maybe throw a shoe?
Wake up the neighbors; see what they’d do?
Who would be the pest? And then.
They’d yell at me, to my chagrin.
“Off to jail; with him who disturbs the peace!
I’d say, “Wait a minute, don’t you see?
I’m just trying to the best, for you and me.
“Broker a deal…just to get some rest
doing what I think is good…for all; doing what’s best.
Laughing at me, It keeps his cadence.
Master of this before; I’m about to lose patience.
“This scruffy loudmouth won’t get the best of me.
I looked in my corner and it’s the gun I see.
It’s the gun I see……..
It’s the gun I see…….
-------------- instrumental-------------
Quiet now, locate his roost….shhhhh
Give him a taste of this; that’ll give him a boost.
Take careful aim, easy; and squeeze.
The bullet took off, my ear to appease.
The flick of a wing,
I heard the ping.
The glass shattered in loud crescendo.
Oh God, what have I done?
I just wanted to run…..Oh yeah…Oh no….
I’ve just shot out Ms. Hadley’s front window.
Oh no, Ahhh…… the irony…..To kill the mocking bird?

I also got a note from Tom I can't find or figure what he's talking about?????????/
Hello Artists,
Long but important message!
MySpace has had a very valuable feature since 2007 -- the status & mood update -- which I've noticed that bands/musicians/comedians are really under-utilizing.
I think musicians, filmmakers and comedians have not been using this much for two reasons:
1) Lots of you are still on the classic home, which does not emphasize the status update. Not sure really why.. resistant to change guys? But the % of artists that are still on our classic home is markedly different from the % of regular users of the site. Regular users have adopted this in mass, but artists have not.
2) Unlike regular profiles where the status shows right on the top of the page (mine, for example: myspace.com/tom), for band/filmmaker/ comedian profiles, the status does NOT show on the page.
I started asking around and I realized that because of these two things, artists did not understand how this status update feature works.
First, I'd like to encourage you all to move to the new Home (the link to convert is on your home page right under the link that shows your profile url). Click "Home" then look under your URL and click the "New Home Skin" link.
Once you do, you'll see what over 85% of regular site users see - the new home page (well not so new, it launched in Sep 2007!) That home page features status updates very prominently right at the top of the page.
Whenever you update your status, it appears on the homepage of every user. It works just like bulletins, but its shorter--instead of allowing you to post a big message, the status post is just a short message. And in today's world, where millions of users are accesing MySpace via mobile devices, your fans are more likely to read these short messages.
Your status updates can point people to your blogs and bulletins, and can alert users to new song updates, new photos, or anything you want to tell your fans. But the real key here is not to constantly MARKET to your fans, but rather to let them in on your personal life.
Let's imagine you're the Beatles. (Nice eh?) Updates could be like this: "Pete Best just left the band.. trying out some cat named Ringo," or "John is thinking of getting married.. some girl named Yoko," or "we are backstage at the Ed sullivan show.. about to go on, wish us luck!" These sort of personal, NON-PROMOTIONAL updates are what really engage your fans, and gets them interested in you as people. It makes them pay attention, which means they'll pay attention when you DO market to your fans. If you hit them over the head with constant promotion, they tune you out.
That's not all. We now have a widget that bands can put on their page, which allows you to display this status post ON your profile in case your fans missed it on their home page. To get the widget, click here-- after clicking, look to the right for the embed code you can grab to put it on your profile. To see how it looks on some profiles, check out: Nico Vega, Meiko, Christina Milian, Jordyn Taylor, Tila Tequila, ForBiddeN
The group Nylon Pink has the coolest implementation I've seen of this. They put up status widgets for every band member on the main band page. This gives them a way to promote each band member and gives their fans a way to see whats up with all the band members right from the main band page. Nice girls!
Lastly, you can even update your status via mobile, so that you always keep your fans up to date, no matter where you are. To do that, go to m.myspace.com on your mobile browser. The status update is the first option you'll see right when you login. If you prefer to update via text msg, just activate your phone by going here. And then start texting your updates to 69772. Or, if you're an Iphone or Blackberry user, you can get a special app for your phone. (More info on those apps here)
Thanks,
Tom
P.S. More is coming, we're doing a lot to improve the experience for artists, including increasing the number of songs that every artist can put on their profile, so keep your eyes & ears open.
IVE LOOKED FOR THIS FEATURE AND CANT FOR THE LIFE OF ME FIND WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT

Environmentally Yours m. mcvicker 1997
Ain't no tree hugger,
Don't get me wrong.
I like to see them
big and strong.
Cherry, alder, oak, and spruce,
I think they're here, to put to use.
Walnut, birch,mahogany, ash,
They make fine tables,
I like the cash.
Ain't no tree hugger.
I like the shade.
Sittin' in my back yard
on this chair I made!
Global warming, electric cars,
Save the whales, probes on Mars.
Owls protected, children starve;
Loggers can't work, I like to carve!
Ain't no tree hugger,
As you can see.
So, lets cut down a big one,
for the economy!

Our Lady m. mcvicker 2008
On this pier I step ashore
with my wits.. and not much more
among this crowd I’m pushed along
Many faces foreign tongues
I saw the lady as we sailed to sea
I thought her light not as bright as it used to be
and as the fog swept her breast
disappointment filled my chest
as we steamed from Ellis island
And the thousands that came to die for her
the land.. their blood inters
The pride of many , the hopes of all
as we watch our love ones fall
she was there when we when we left the yard
Her eyes were closed, not to see
With her book, held in high regard,
she almost took the breath from me
Now with hope, I stand on another stage
Ancestral land I have engaged
With so many who leave in disgust
the land given in trust
to those who would stain her page
Oh those that came and we that leave
Sure we all know for those we grieve
Their lives were lost for which we stand
And it is we who became the ghosts of Ellis Island

Actually a few hundred years ago you would be eating gathered food. Nuts, berries, roots ,veggies grown, cabbage, potatoes cheese, bread,..and dont forget the Guiness grog and whiskey. Hunting wasnt all that productive, and many wouldnt slaughter the production animals of other eadibles..However, I'll have my steak medium rare please...
