I do bend and use vibrato a lot ,but I always have and my strat which I've played for about 10yrs and never used elixir strings on , didn't deteriorate as quick at the tele ,maybe the mexican fret wire is a softer brass . I'll get it dressed and see how it goes .

Topic: Accelerated fret wear with Elixir strings ? (13 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I've been using Elixir strings on my Telecaster for just over a year now and I 'm finding some fret damage in the shape of small dings under the d,g and b strings ,which on a two year old guitar think is a bit soon as my other main guitars (which aren't strung with elixir and both are older than the tele ) show no sign of damage .I'm not overly concerned as a re dress on the frets will take care of the damage ,I'm just curios if the coating on the Elixir strings is what caused the damage .
When I re string I think I'll revert to the Ernie ball 9's I use on my other electrics .

I didn't know the Wilson brand was still in production .45 years ago I had a Wilson rapier electric which was a strat type copy ,first electric I had ,served well for a few years ,cant comment on acoustics though but the rapier was ok as I remember .

Topic: guitar hanger cheap option? (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
some time ago some one posted about guitar hangers ,cant find the original post but I saw this today on face book and thought what a good idea .
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid … mp;theater
I hope the link works but if it doesnt this guy has taken a cheap pine shelving kit and cut a hole in to match the neck width of a guitar enabling it to hang .Dependent on the length of shelf you could always cut more holes and hang more guitars .
May be a problem on deeper acoustics but it seems good for electrics

How many of you out there find you have to take a music stand and prompts to your live performances .
In recent years (as I have aged ) I find I cant remember lyrics and chords as I could years ago and so I'm becoming more reliant on the stand and find my self making excuses for it being on stage .
Here in Greece it doesn't seem to hold any stigma however In the UK I feel it attracts comments or am I just feeling bad about my own short comings ?

Re: Backing tracks V live performance (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
My Band for two years before we added a permanent drummer and bass player used backing when we played the clubs and bars over here here in Crete to good effect .It enabled us as a trio to have a much fuller sound and on occasion if I played solo to still sound like a band .
The main down side I found was that you could not vary from the format laid down by the track and also if you happened to miss your cue for the start of a verse then you couldn't cover a mistake ,however the good side to that is it made you play tighter as the backing track makes no allowance for other players it just carry's on regardless.
I dont use them now but I wont dismiss the possibility of future use .If i play solo I use a boss rc2 looper and a zoom effect pedal for drums .The zoom I have modified with an external switch so I can turn the drum track off once Ive recorded it into the looper .
Summing up there is no substitute for a live band it gives more scope for improvisation and a better show for the audience but theres no shame in using a backing track .

Brian and I will be in the UK for a while from Jan 2014 to March and it is unlikely that Nik and Stef will get time off work to come along .We are hoping to arrange some gigs when we are there and will require a Bass player and Drummer to help out .preferably in the Lancaster /Settle /Kendal area ,We are hoping to get some London /southern venues but as the most time will be spent on the Lancashire /Yorkshire borders some one from this area would be better positioned for rehearsals/meetings etc .
Any one interested should contact me either by this forum or message me on You Tube messenger or face book .And we can exchange vids /set lists etc .

Re: Proper positioning of amplifier. (8 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Behind me and to the right angled slightly to the drummer ,usually just loud enough for us both to hear a bit more than the stage monitors give .So when we finish Nik gets a clear signal when to start the finish sequence of each song as we often improvise sections or add more verses as required .If I require any feed back then I just step up to the amp and bring the guitar near to the the speaker . We are lucky as we have a very good PA and a really good sound engineer who always gives us a good front of house hound with out it being too loud ,Having said that the bar at Irapetra 2 weeks ago did get fined by the local authority's when we played for noise but he didnt care cos it was a full house .

Re: Aging Vocal Chords (9 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Further to the previous post as our mini tour rolls on we have played another 3 gigs in the past 5 days ,one of which went on till 4 in the morning .we had to play the whole set twice .Which really strained my voice ,so I went to the local E N T specialist yesterday who shoved a camera down my throat .results were good and there is no actual damage only a little irritation.which is treatable with rest and cortizone .What Im getting at is the cause of degeneration in a singers voice can be down to enviroment ie most of us sing in smoky bars (or have done prior to legislation ),Those of us who play a lot of out door gigs (like us) are subject to wind blowing sand ,pollen etc at us which we breath in .All these factors are relevant not only the age thing ,Also taking care to warm up your voice correctly and not just go on stage and scream your head off must help if your a serious performer ,I get so much greif off two of our girl singers here in Sitia about warming up (or not usualy in my case ) after this I'm gonna take notice and do the exercises .
Next gig thursday and its a biggy
