Thanks you all - My main night baby was my son. He would shake the crib in the middle of the night when he woke up pretty much demanding attention. The girl was a bit easier but both fun kids.

Hey Marc - I hope we get our priorities in order soon. Very good lyrics. I haven't tried the chords daddy posted but will tomorrow.

The kids are gone now but I was just remembering those night of trying to rock them to sleep back when I was a young father. I remember working on very little sleep when one or the other of my kids had a late night. I’m glad those days are over an done but I’m grateful I still have them to look back on. As I said before, I play the F7 here like this: xx3210 and it sounds okay to me.

Thanks you all - Hey daddy - I liked the Am Em because it sounded kind of folky and seemed to fit the mood but you are right. Those chords give a different sound and you don't hear them too much.

Hey Phill - Yeah, I can fix them though I give it a pretty close look prior to posting and still I always miss something.

Hey Lena - I found out later on that I still had some friends who still lived there but couldn't find them at the time. I went back again and looked from time to time but it took the internet to find them.

BTW - This Song's title comes from my hometown's most famous Son. Now it was the town where I was born not where I live now. Can anyone can guess who it is?

This song is one I started and set aside a while back but finally finished tonight. A better writer than me once wrote that going home again after being awhile for a long time is very difficult due to changes that happen at home and changes that happen in you.  So even though there is no place like home it is often a fleeting place that if you leave it too long you can never recaptured it  as you remember.

On my MySpace page I see comments from my son’s girlfriend, updated daily, about how she is looking forward to his visit coming up in May. She is very anxious to see him and I guess I can understand that. I think as you grow older you become more accustomed to waiting and learn patience, but I don’t think you ever totally get rid of the feelings of anticipation.

Just thought I would add I play the F7 like this  x03210 and that goes for all of my songs. The reason is my barred F sucks so I write a song that works better for me. Don't let is stop you from using the barred F if you like.

Thanks you all.

Phill - She liked it because she knows she gets a little too focused sometimes so I have to pull her out. I play it in a slow finger pick like a country ballad for the verses and go into strumming on the chorus.

Eagleeye - We kind of balance each other out. I get like that too sometimes and she'll have to drag me out of it. Maybe why we've been together so long.

Lena - I see how lucky I am and I try and help her when she needs it.

Hey Zurf - The fun think about this forum is that the songs are put out there with a implied "use as you see fit" clause on them so I say adjust to fit your needs and have fun with it. My son will be back home sometime after the 15th of May and I plan on taking him up to Shenandoah for a cookout but he likes to fish as well and I'm pretty sure he'll have some time he'll want to go while he's here. I'll drop you a line then and let’s see if we can hook up.

My wife has a habit of getting extremely focused on whatever project she’s doing; so much so that she sometimes forgets to have fun. I consider it my job to help her have fun when she gets this way which works sometimes and other times backfires but is still usually fun, at least for me.

That Silly Girl I Love By Jeff Gilpin

You can't be [Dm]far

[Am]Look around

You can [C]find her

Thanks Lena - I can't imagine cycling in the Ireland although I bet it would be a blast. Just driving in England took a while to get use to but I finally did although I lost count of the curb checks I had.

Hey Zurf and Daddy - Thanks.

My wife got me thinking about this along with earthday. We've had bikes forever but somehow they migrated to the basement and now it's time to bring them out again.

(9 replies, posted in Songwriting)

Hey Phil - Thanks.

It is true that I have gotten a bit more clarity as the years have gone by into how lucky I am. The longer we are together the more I love my wife. It's not exactly where this song idea comes from but that was a combination of things and for me it seems to end up turning into a love song more often than not.

So it being Earth Day and all, I was thinking of how to be a little more conservative and earth friendly and I remembered I have a bike down in the basement that hasn’t seen the sunlight in a while. That is where this comes from.

Forgotten Wheels By Jeff Gilpin

April 22nd, 2008

Verse 1

[C]Shaking out the [F7]cobwebs

[C]Dusting off the [G]dirt

[Em]Oiling up the creaky parts

[Am]Hoping it’ll work

Been [F7]years since I’ve ridden

[C]Not sure I still can

Or [G]if the bike’s still sturdy

And can [F7]hold this heavy man

Chorus

[Am]Riding through the neighborhood

[G]Riding all over town

It [F7]use to be my wheels back then

[C]But I’ve let it [G]down

[Am]Forgotten how it felt

To have the [G]wind in my hair

The world [F7]spread out before me

And [Am]me without a care

Verse 2

The [C]chain could use a [F7]little grease

The [C]tires a little [G]air

But [Em]it seems in working order

And [Am]I think that it can bear

The [F7]weight of this old man now

[C]Who is no longer the kid

Who could [G]ride his bike all day

And [F7]never has gotten rid

Chorus

[Am]Riding through the neighborhood

[G]Riding all over town

It [F7]use to be my wheels back then

[C]But I’ve let it [G]down

[Am]Forgotten how it felt

To have the [G]wind in my hair

The world [F7]spread out before me

And [Am]me without a care

Verse 3

So I’ll [C]take it out [F7]set it up

[C]See if it’ll [G]go

Take [Em]time get my wheels back

I [Am]guess I’ll start out slow

But [F7]gradually I’ll speed on up

As I [C]start remembering

You [G]never forget how to ride a bike

Or that [F7]being a kid thing

Chorus

[Am]Riding through the neighborhood

[G]Riding all over town

It [F7]use to be my wheels back then

[C]But I’ve let it [G]down

[Am]Forgotten how it felt

To have the [G]wind in my hair

The world [F7]spread out before me

And [Am]me without a care

Hey Lena - I'll still record some on a smaller scale. Most likely this weekend I'll try and record a tune or two.

Hey Roger, Daddy and Brad - Thanks very much.

Roger, I'm still in the middle of a recording project I've been working at for awhile now so it might be a while before I get any of my new songs recorded. Now I still am tinkering on my on like I did on First Snow of Winter that's on FoC but I am not quite as good recording on my on as I need to be. If I do you know I will shot it to you first as always.

Thanks

This is just a song about how you do not always know how good you’ve got it and sometimes if you are lucky enough you recognize your good fortune before you lose it.

[Em]How could I not have [G]noticed

Through [Em]sheer dumb luck I haven’t [G]blown it

I’d [C]get back all those moments that I [Em]missed

Verse 6

For[Em]get about those days they’re all [G]over anyways

[C]I can make better use of the ones a[G]head

[Em]Concentrate my time taking [G]snapshots with my mind

So [C]I'll look back in fondness not [Em]dread

Chorus

[D]Some lessons are hard [G]coming

[D]Some come at you over [C]time

[Em]It’s taken me years and years of [G]drubbing

[C]Now I just can’t get you off my [D]mind [Em]
